A Cadillac Inside of a Chevy !

2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
20 of 20 people found this review helpful

This is the nicest Chevrolet Sedan ever produced when considering the new technology features, ride, handling and size. I thought the Impala was the "king", but the GM engineers will have to up their game to surpass the new Malibu Premier. With the new 9 speed automatic transmission you can't tell when the gears are shifting, and the engine is very smooth, quiet and powerful. It makes the car feel nimble and fun to drive. Additionally, the gas mileage looks like it will be great ( 35 + MPG) on the highway. The interior is exceptional and this car just has the looks and feel of a high end luxury vehicle. If you are looking for one don't mess around. Find a Premier with the Driver Confidence Packages. You will not be disappointed. Update 11/22/18 ----Just drove home from a 1 hour highway trip with our Malibu. It is 28 degrees out and our gas mileage is still terrific (aprx. 40 MPG / Highway). Combined with the awesome heated seats, steering wheel and the tight/quiet road handling feel this continues to be a great car for us. The engine torque of the 2 liter turbo engine and 9 speed transmission is also remarkable in that when going up and down hills it maintains a steady cruise control speed without downshifting or jerking to compensate for a changing terrain -- very remarkable ! When combined with the navigation, crash avoidance, parking and lane keep features, this car is just awesome. Just like the sales person told us, this car will do everything but make breakfast ! I did try some of the competitors vehicles, but I'm glad I bought this one. Update 11/26/19 ----This Malibu Premium is still a great vehicle. We are still getting used to the many features that are available. The ride remains tight, quiet and powerful. The Bose radio is excellent, and the gas mileage isl way above the EPA estimates (33 highway). No recalls. No issues. It is just a great vehicle as promised. One additional feature, the I06 Navigation system is terrific. It continues to work just as nice as it did thru the normal free trial period, only finally there is something that works as promised without having to pay a monthly fee. Keep it up GM ! With these types of vehicles you may see a gain in market share. SNM Update 11/28/20 --- This vehicle is still awesome. We still like all of the features and the side, front and rear sensors keep us away from other vehicles and objects. The gas mileage is also still great. It is also nice to know the features in this car are still up to date with the brand new models. If you want to buy a used one, the 2017 and 2018 Premier models are the ones you want. Update 5/30/21 -- Our Malibu Premier is still as nice, tight and quiet as new. Additionally, now as gas prices are escalating the gas mileage of this car really shines (35mpg +). There have been NO problems, just an awesome driving vehicle. Still the best value and features in mid size vehicles. Update 12/2/22 ---Our Malibu Premier still rides and drives like new. It also still delivers great gas mileage. We just don't see anything in the current market that can compare, and that is a good feeling ! Update 6/2/23 --- This vehicle is just as nice, tight and quiet as it was when it was new. It is perfect when also considering the 35+ mpg combined warm weather gas mileage. I know GM is going to dis-continue this vehicle soon, so the only remaining sedan in their lineup will be the Cadillac models. I hope they reconsider as this vehicle is a star.

I purchased a 2017 malibu new with 5 miles 12/2016. Check engine light came on a month and half later. Vehicle in the shop 15 times in a 16 month period. Repeat emission related issues, rumbling, vibrating noise, clunks and jerks upon deceleration, reduced engine power lights causing car to not accelerate and not shift out of 2nd gear. Oxygen senors replaced 3 times and received error code that they needed to be replaced a 4th time. Catalytic converter replaced, wire harness replaced twice, rear wheel bearing replaced and still had repeat issues. Chevy Malibu is unsafe and is a hazard to the driver and others on the road. On 3 occasions the reduced engine light illuminated and the car would not accelerate. There is no warning ahead of time. The last time this happened I was on the freeway. After repeat inconveniences of taking my car for repairs, time off work, time without a vehicle, being stranded roadside and put in unsafe conditions from lack of reliability and lack of resolution from the dealership and GM I turned my car in as a voluntary repo. I will never purchase another GM vehicle! It is by far the worst vehicle I have owned! It is unsafe and unreliable. I will not drive behind a Chevy Malibu on the freeway because I know at any moment their reduced engine power indicator may come on and cause their vehicle to substantially slow and not accelerate. DO NOT BUY A MALIBU

Bought the car with 359 miles on in in december of 2017. From day one I have a vibration hum from the rear end only when a person is sitting in the front passenger seat. Noticed it had a sweat line on the passenger rear head liner so I took it in for service. They said the fixed the hum too by unbolting the a/c compressor and retorqing it to the new specs...Did not fix the vibration. I have been noticing several new things latley, fuel mileage has gone from 35 to 24, has loss of power on take off until the turbo kicks in, has engine vibration at idle, almost stalls out sometimes when going from reverse to drive. On friday sep 22 the check engine light came on and it was put into limp mode. Had it towed to the dealership and on saturday they told me in was fine and was just low on oil, I asked where did the oil go then? They argued with me further and said it was fine and there is nothing wrong with it. On sunday morning the light again came on and it again went into limp mode, when I stopped at a light the car died and wouldn't restart. Had it towed to the same dealership and now they are saying it has a blown motor. Say it has metal shavings throughout the engine. The dealership has not been helpful at all and has argued with me through this whole process. I told them they should have looked into it more closley on saturday instead of arguing with me. The car only has 65k miles. As soon as it is done I'm trading it in. I will never own another gm product again!

My husband and I own a 2017 Malibu and it is always in the shop. My husband just got it out of the shop and ten minutes later the check engine light came back on. We always had troubles with the Malibu’s. It is a good car with gas however the car only have 60k on it. I’m scared when the warranty runs out.. it is gonna cost an arm and a leg. If you wanna charge so much for a car make the car come with non faulty parts.

I'm a full time student and this vehicle made being a student less stressful and much more enjoyable. I owned the vehicle for only a few months when I ended up totaling it sadly. I will be purchasing another one to replace my first and favorite vehicle. I was driving home at 11pm after a busy day of school and errands, as I was driving home there was a pack of deer that sprinted out in front of my vehicle and because I was driving the car I was driving I not only survived but walked away from the crash unharmed, I hit a tree after trying to avoid the deer and also rolled three times. Overall the safety on this car was flawless and because my vehicle came with a five year on-star prescription 9-1-1 was instantly dialed the moment my airbags went off. This style vehicle is not only stylish but safe and I would recommend this vehicle to any and everyone.

Doesn't Last

I bought my 2017 Malibu in February 2018 - brand new. Car drove well for a while I loved the space inside and the sleek look. I have taken great care of it because I commute an hour and half for work 5x a week - I need my car to always be in great shape. I have only taken it to Chevy for oil changes and maintenance. In 2019 I started getting a "Shift to Park" message after putting my car in park. The car's battery will not turn off until the car recognizes it is in park. This leaves me either sitting there until the message eventually goes way (could be a few seconds, or a few minutes), or turning my car back on and trying to put it back into park. I found waiting a minute or two before trying to turn off my engine helped prevent this issue from happening. But over time, this message kept popping up more often and I'm left siting there for about 10 minutes trying to figure out how to fix it. I've told Chevy about the problem 2 separate times when I went in for oil changes, they knew about the problem- it was clear they had dealt with it before and said they could fix it no problem. Both times, they said this, both times the message would appear again after a few days. The car is only 4 years old, it's only been driving around for 3 years, I'm not even to 60,000 miles and this problem now happens daily. I thought buying a new car would prevent me from having to trade in my car so soon. Now I owe more than the car is worth, but don't have a choice, I will have to trade it in soon before this problem is no longer manageable. I will never buy another GM car ever again.

Purchased my 2017 Chevy Malibu in November 2017. It has been in the shop 5 times for throttle body issues (twice), 2 different types of sensors, and 3 minor issues and a recall. Today was the 6th time. After driving the car for a week and having the "Reduced Engine Control" check engine light and message come on, causing the car to decelerate to 10 mph, I took the car to my Chevy dealer, who I trust. 13 - THIRTEEN error codes came up on the car, including catalytic, turbo, accelerator pedal, barometric pressure, just to name a few. I was told it would be several thousand dollars to fix because, of course, the warranty and extended warranty are done. The car is useless right now. Hard to drive when every few miles the car stops and won't go more than 10 mph. I am contacting an attorney, because after contacting GM and it doesn't seem to care, this seems to be the only course of action I have. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CAR!

FLatulant Malibu

We Purchased this vehicle on the 28th of November after trading in a 2012 Malibu lt That had 72000 miles on it. We chose the LS model as our new replacement because of the the options that we could get for the money. Unfortunately i think we should have done more research. At 489 miles the check engine light came on. I took the car in to be serviced and i was told that there was gas vapors escaping from the gas cap and that is what was causing the check engine light to come on. I was told that the part would be ordered but it would take a couple of weeks to get in. I can not believe this is happening on a brand new car. I purchases my 2012 Malibu as a second owner with 42000 miles on it and not once did i have a check engine light come on. i pray that this is the only problem and that i will be fixed soon. this has been the only problem that we have had with the car other than that the 1.5 liter engine is good. Its not overly quick but you have plenty of passing power on the highway. I have a heavy foot and i like to drive cautiously fast however i have not once had to floor the accelerator, the 1.5 liter gets you up to speed quickly and the brakes are nice and firm for whenever you have that driver that's not paying attention to the road. the android auto is a great feature that was added for the 2017 Ls model it helps keep the driver focused on the road all you have to say is " Ok Google" and the vehicle activates voice command. I wish the tire noise was reduced however different tires may decrease the sound. Gas mileage is good i am averaging 22.8 so far but we live In Midtown Atlanta so its mostly city driving. Overall We love this car just troubled that we are already having problems.

My first car was a 2001 Chevy Cavalier LS bought brand new. Being my first car, I was very proud of it. I remember going in to the break room and reading a review from a car magazine on my 15 minute break at work. The only things it said were "Mostly plastic. Feels cheap." I went out to my car after work and sat in the driver's seat. It was mostly plastic. My sister 2 years later got a brand new Hyundai Elantra. It had a sunroof, it was a much better car than mine. I remember my dad saying "It's a shame that America can't make a decent car like Toyota, Honda, or Hyundai." This is also when the Daewoo cars started being sold as well. $11,000 got you a better quality car than an $18,000 Chevy! Then came the bailout. My next car was a 2008 Impala. WOW! You can feel the difference. Every car after (especially my 2014 Malibu LT) has been a step up. Take this car and put it up against a BMW. Whoever is designing these things, has their finger on the pulse of the younger consumer (I'm no longer in my 20s). It has Bose speakers, Apple Car Play, wireless phone charger (the plug in piece for my phone costs $12 on Amazon), unlimited 4GLTE wifi on your car for $20 a month, etc. The only thing I would do differently is I would get the 2.0 Turbo engine instead of the 1.5 Turbo (my last Impala had I think it was a 2.2 L Engine) and there is a difference in power.

Ride comfort and quietness is good - road noise is noticably better suppressed on coarse road surfaces than comparable Asian models like the Camry and Sonata. Interior looks and feels fairly rich with a fair amount of soft touch surfaces and nice looking and feeling cloth inserts. Seats are reasonably comfortable but seat bottoms could use more padding to reduce pressure points on longer trips. Overall this 2017 Malibu is competitive with its Asian competiton except, of course, on the thorny issue of long term mechanical component reliability and durability which also reduces Malibu's resale value.

The 2017 Malibu is very nicely designed, very modern and tasteful. The car is long so it has excellent back seat. My LT model was equipped with virtually every option such as collision avoidance, special larger wheels, leather interior and many other features. such as the special aztech red paint. The seats are comfortable and adjust to many settings and the back seat is spacious. The touch screen on my car is the larger one and is easy to read and pretty easy to use. I tend to like the blue tooth radio but it can be very quirky at times. (Being older, I do have trouble getting used to this modern technology). Overall, the price for what you get is an excellent value for the price, as the care is definitely up to to date with the latest technology to keep you safe. My two complaints is that the engine, is under- powered and the car should have the larger four cylinder. And, the feature I hate most and despise is the stop/start feature which makes bumper to bumper driving a real pain. I just do not see how much this adds to gas mileage enough to be able to accept the constant shutting off and starting at a light or in traffic. And finally, they should have included tuning button for the radio, but this is a minor complaint. Overall, a nice car for the money.

I have had a 2016 Chevrolet Maliby Hybrid for now about 3 Years. The Car still runs very well (80K miles) and yes the Gas milage is awesome with avarage about 43mpg. It runs 600 miles with about 14 Gallons of regular Gas. This car is a technical well excuted and surprisingly smooth in trasitioning between e-drive and gas engine on and off. Also the breaking system goes smooth between regenerative system to breaking. The car so far had no issues or repair requirments. They also have a less frequent oil intervall than regular gas models due to the motor been engaged lass than the normal versions. Only negative of this and mostly other hybrids it has a smaller trunk. So if you plan to haul around a lot of luggage often, then this might not work. So if this is you commuter car then you either go by the gas pumps most of the time or stop only for coffe or a drink. And the update after three years? GM will not produce this Hybrid version anymore. Seriously?? Ok I guess I have to buy the Honda on my next Hybrid. Sorry GM!

This is my 3rd Malibu. 2013,2014,2017. This is by far the best of the 3. I read all over the internet about the 1.5l being to under power. The 0 to 60 for my little turbo is 8.0 seconds. Here is about a dozen cars we view as classic sports cars with the 0 to 60 times. Now tell me my 1.5l turbo 4 is MEDIOCRE. 1974 Camaro Z28 8.0, 1976 Corvette 8.0, 1982 Corvette 9.1, 1983 Camaro 9.4, 1983 Datsun 280ZX 9.3, 1964 Dodge Dart GT 8.1, 1974 Dodge Challenger 9.5, 1977 Ferrari 308 8.1, 1966 Mustang 10.8, 1966 Barracuda 12.4, 1967 Barracuda 13.5, 1981 Saab 900 Turbo 11.3. I will take all the safety and tech options of my 2017. Drive a 2017 Malibu. If you think it's to slow. Go to your local auto auction and get one of the classic sports car listed above. You will really know what slow is then.

There Is So Many Better Built Cars Out There!

When I turned in my car for some warranty work I was given this car from Hertz. I have got to be honest this is probably the worst car I have driven in awhile. The acceleration was lack luster to say the least. It's definitely not a car you would be excited to drive and look for a reason to drive it. It is also loud inside, you really hear a lot of road noise. Another issue, for some reason when I would make a call the ac blower would turn off. I am not sure if there is some issue with the computer or if there is some feature for that. If it was a feature, I would have turned it off but the touch screen is so over designed and complicated I could not find that setting. I drive a lot, especially on curvy, two lane roads and this car was not designed for that. I understand this car is a FWD car but a Ford Focus is way more fun to drive around corners and feels somewhat sporty. Although, the BIGGEST design flaw in this car is the start/stop engine. While most car manufacturers have a on/off button by the ignition button Chevy makes you have to put the shifter in L then press the + button six times. This is every time you put the car in drive! Disclaimer: The Wi-Fi feature that Chevy brags about is you must be near a home or business with Wi-Fi to connect. There are so many other cars out there, that are fun to drive and are designed conveniently for the driver. I would recommend this car to no one.

Bought a new 2017 Malibu and after 91,000 miles was told by dealership that it needs a new engine. Since warranty only goes to 60,000 miles I will absorb the cost. Chevrolet headquarters and the dealership said there is nothing they can do. I asked if this is normal for a car to do this and don’t they stand behind there product since this is obviously poor manufacturing, they said”Sorry”. Well I will NEVER buy Chevrolet again !!! The rest of you BEWARE !!!!

A friend of mine has a Malibu that I really liked. So when I was in the market for a new car, I bought a 2017 Malibu LS. And I loved it. It was good looking, comfortable, stylish.. But, after 41,000 miles, it started having a problem with the gear shaft. When I parked, a message would come up on the dashboard telling me to Shift to Park. Called to ask the dealer about the issue. They told me that the warranty expired after 40,000 miles. If I wanted the problem looked at, it would be out of pocket for me. And I'm still paying for this car! I've never had any new car give me issues while paying for it, and this is my 3rd new car purchase (but my 1st Chevy). Well needless to say, issue kept getting worse until I had no choice but to bring the car to the dealer. Hoping this issue will be fixed free of charge. It's ridiculous to be making PAYMENTS on something that is breaking up on me! *Beware: the CSR at the dealer told me other 2017 Malibus have come in for the same issue. To be continued..

In April 2017 I bought a 2017 Malibu LT with sports package.I absolutely loved the sleek sporty style of the 2017 Malibu. The interior is set in a user friendly fashion, and right at your fingertips. The car is loaded with almost all the added features you can get. After picking up my new car, I noticed the car had not been cleaned before pickup, i.e. I found a sippy cup under the driver seat, with that said only a week later I noticed that my trunk was soaking wet with water after a storm went through. I promptly brought the car back and found out the light in the trunk had never been sealed from the factory. I think I will just list the problems since I bought it instead of explaining each one, here we go; 1. trunk leaked water 2. water fall sound under dash on take off 3. rug cut too short and sticks up on passenger door 4. interior marks up easy 5. creaking sound from back axles 6. road noise is very loud now 7. glaze on door trim is coming off 8. the shifter has already had to be replaced my car only has 29,000 miles on it, these problems should not be happening. I cant wait to get rid of it.

Problems for two years

I bought my 2017 Chevy Malibu hybrid new in 2018 in Dawsonville, Ga. I debated on sealing the deal since it was my first big purchase. The rep kept calling and eventually knocked off a nice chunk of change for me to say yes. I assume he just wanted it off the lot since it was a rural town with little interest in hybrid sedans. With my luck, the service light came on in 2020 right when covid shut down Atlanta for two weeks. Appointments at the local dealership were scheduling a month out. I finally got it looked at and the “whole computer” had to be replaced. Luckily it was still under warranty. August of 2021 the check engine light came back on and I was told that the part I need would take up to 6 months for the manufacture to make and send out. After no response from Chevrolet about the ridiculous wait time, I took it to two other shops and was refused work on it due to it being a hybrid. Now it’s back in the dealership, it’s been a month, and the technician has no idea what’s wrong with it. They say it has something to do with the wiring but my concern is if the technician that has been trained in these specific company cars and can’t find out the problem, who can? They say they are talking with GM about it, but that may just be all talk to give them more time. Am I stuck with a 15k loan on a car that is not fixable? It’s crazy that a car that’s not the first, not the last of its kind, under 100k mileage and has been driven for three and a half years can’t be fixed by the company who made it.

The 1.5L engine is surprisingly peppy. Love the looks, inside and out. Pearl white with the beige leather and gray interior. Keep telling myself it's just a midsize Chevy sedan (boring), but really enjoy driving it. All the gizmos are fun, but long term reliability on all the electronics is my biggest concern.

I rented this car over the Christmas break for one week. initially the car seemed very comfortable and overall seemed like a very well-made vehicle. On the second full day of driving the vehicle I felt comfortable enough to pay attention to other aspects of the car besides just learning where things are located. I then became aware that the car is very noisy on rough roads. This is after I verified the pressure of the tires was as recommended by the manufacturer in the morning, cold temperature. Another thing that happened was I hit my shin twice on the fancy overly sculptured dash over the course of the week. It was bad enough that it drew blood both times. This happened as i got comfortable with the car. Lastly I have one very odd and alarming incident where the car was on cruise control, 50 mph, and as the car started to go into a downhill portion of the road I started to hear clicking like a relay from the front left side of the engine compartment and the car started to hesitate. I wasn’t sure if it was the cruise control trying to adjust the speed or if there was some transmission issue trying to engage and disengage the drive system. That didn’t happen again but I didn’t go down that same road again either so I’m not able to verify if that’s a continuing problem. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this car to a family member or Norwood I buy this at the best of price

I have driven a Malibu hybrid for 6,000 miles & I can tell you this car is impressive - Well done GM. I have owned BMW, Audi, Toyotas, and Hondas. This car is quiet, comfortable, tastefully designed, both interior & exterior. The only flaw I have found with this car is at Winter it blows clod air when the engine is shut off - I believe it is a characteristic of hybrid design. I average 40-41 mpg, and I drive normally. If you are willing to be easy on the gas, I believe you can average about 45 mpg.

GM apparently bought several Toyota Camry midsize cars and tore them down to the nuts and bolts trying to figure out how to make a car that hit all the same marks as the Camry, which has been the best-selling midsize car for over a decade now. They pretty much succeeded in capturing the essence of a Camry -- a boring but roomy and comfortable midsize family car with good room and merely adequate acceleration and handling. Actually, it handles pretty well for what it is, the acceleration is merely adequate at best. BUT: In the years since GM designed this car, Toyota has stepped up their game significantly, the new Camry comes with safety features that you can't get on the Malibu for the same price. The new Honda Accord has a similar sized turbo engine but significantly better build quality and typical Honda crisp handling as well as being slightly roomier, and again, for the same price. AND, the Malibu depreciates badly, its value basically sinks by $12,000 the moment you drive off the showroom lot, unlike the Accord or Camry. BUT: This car is queen of the rental fleet and the rental fleets dump their Malibus onto the used market after they're barely broken in. Thus you can get a barely broken in Malibu as a GM Certified used car for a pittance compared to any recent-vintage Accord or Camry. As a used GM Certified car, the Malibu makes a lot of sense -- reasonably economical, roomy, drives decently, gets you from point A to point B. Don't expect fun, but that's not what GM was aiming for. In short: The Malibu is a bad buy as a new car, but I liked it enough and the used price is ridiculously low enough that I'm about to buy one after having rented one and driven over a thousand miles in it.

The noise level on most roads makes it impossible to clearly hear the radio and anyone talking. The noise drops on smooth asphalt. There it the wind merely sounds like the trunk is open or one of the back windows is partially down. I’ve driven Chevrolet vehicles for 50 years and this is by far the most poorly engineered.

Good car BUT must be very Overpriced as the Trade in values are Awful!! Same old General!! Once you've signed the dotted line they forget who you are. The corporate offices, now in Texas, treat you like the town's rabid dog! Wish we the public had - had a say in our Taxes paying for their bailout. Nothing changed their attitude towards their customers. Wish I'd gone to Ford! The Malibu is very stylish and has the ride and comfort of a higher priced car. Unfortunately, GM has some very uncaring dealers still. The dealer where I bought the car is uncaring. However, I found a Chevy dealer with a good service dept. elsewhere. The issue is basically, GM makes a very good and reliable car. However,GM needs to address the uncaring attitudes towards consumers that still is the culture in some of its dealerships. I've had the car for over 3 years and it is a reliable car.

I have leased the car & now I have 30,000 miles on it; average about 40-41 mpg day in day out. The car is quiet & comfortable ( I have he leather trim). Safety features are outstanding. The blue tooth and apple connection works really well. Never had an issue with; seems very reliable. The only negative is the trunk space which is understanding; that's where the hybrid battery is.

I leased the 2017 Premier . It has the Pearl White Paint and it was sadly , the last Malibu on the dealers lot that day . I just needed a car and did not want to shop all over the place , so, the Premier was IT . It has been a solid , trouble free car for sure . The 2 Liter Turbo gives it enough get up and go . The interior is OK . A bit too much plastic for an approx $ 35,000 car . I like the full moon roof and ample trunk space with the seats folded down . Good room in the back seat and USB ports as well . The My Link info system is good and easy to use . I especially like the larger screen set into the dash . All the new cars have what appears to be a laptop stuck on the top of the dash . That totally turns me off and ruins what could be a nice looking car . The wheels are big which really hugs the road . However, I got a flat and it was over $ 400 to replace a tire . The pearl paint really looks great when the car is clean and waxed . The drive is smooth and the speakers are adequate but not as good as they could be . I love all the safety features that come standard . My lease is up January 21 , and after looking high and low for a new vehicle . I think I am just gong to keep my 2017 Chevy Premier . The new ones offer nothing that I do not already have on this car with only 22,000 miles on it . I would recommend the Premier to anyone looking for a nice styled, good looking and driving auto . I have certainly been happy with mine

I like the looks. Was pleasantly surprised with the power.. It handles nicely. Not a big fan of the auto shut off at each stop nor the way the steering wheel jerks when car starts again. I don't care for the fact that you have to connect your phone to have navigation. Seats arent very comfy... The back does have lots of leg room.

this is a solid car, the ride is nice and smooth and gas mileage in the year plus that i have owned it has been in the mid 30's for mpg , it is plenty big if your a big person and super comfortable, even though this is a 4 cyl, it still has plenty of power and being it also has turbo, makes it even quicker, i wish this car came with a spoiler and fog lights, and a heads up display would have been nice too, but the digital speedometer is very easy to read and the gauges are all easy to read, even at night, it has a great radio with 8 speakers and all music sounds great, it has a mp3 port so you can download your own music and put it on a usb drive and play thru the radio, the bluetooth is easy to set us and also the gps that comes with the car right on the ball! update, December 2019, car is one of the best i have ever owned, still a great car, in 2018 the rear tail light shorted out, but was covered under warranty, other then that, no problems!update July 2019, other then two new tires because they had bubbles from pot holes and a new tail light, covered under warranty, all is still good, still my dream car

I was in Denver recently and looking at the row of rentals it looked like I was going to be stuck with a Nissan Sewing Machine, I mean Sentra. Then I spotted a brand new Malibu. I jumped on it. Malibu and Impala have been my go to rental cars for years. Always competent handling, familiar controls, just a good all around car. Boy has that changed. I'm tall at 6'1" so one thing I've always liked about the Malibu is that the seat goes back far enough so that I have plenty of legroom. However now I can't reach the steering wheel. At least it had push button start so the key wasn't digging into my kneecap. The biggest issue though was the power, or more precisely that lack of it. It was basically impossible to pull out into traffic without a light. Nail the gas from a start and you'll doze off before the car starts to do anything at all. It just sits there. At first I thought it was due to the start/stop. I quickly figured out it is disabled when the trans is in manual mode. But a short time later I found myself at a metered on ramp. The light on my side went green, I hit the gas, and nothing happened. At all. As a matter of fact the other side went green and that driver was half a car length past me before this hunk of junk even started moving. Once up to speed you can tell that there is a decent amount of power available, but you're not allowed access to it. One of the most annoying cars I've driven in a long time.

Less than 25,000 miles and car will lurch forward on occasion from the stopped position due to gears (automatic) not engaging. Also will stop hard due to gears shifting too soon which results in reverse not engaging unless you shift off and then back to reverse a second time. Sad thing is I am not getting any error lights so waiting to see what the dealership tells me. I’ve found with Chevy dealerships if there isn’t an error code they tell you there is nothing wrong.

For tall people, this car can prove to be disastrous. I had a near accident experience when, I tried to move the sunvisor from front to the side. We all do that while driving. If you are tall, the visor will come and hit right around your eyes, if you are not careful, or else you have to duck. The visor hit my glasses and it broke my glass and I had to screech to a halt..thankfully it was an empty highway. secondly, after 2 years the battery recharge system gave up. I used to love 'auto shut off' feature when I used to stop the car at traffic lights. Near the 2 year end of lease, the car failed to restart after stopping. Now I turn the car to neutral at traffic light to avoid auto shut off..kind of a curse nowadays! I like the ride, technology inside, bluetooth, carplay. Finally, after 2 years, my miles per gallon came down to 20miles/gallon. the advertised is 27 for local.

This is the first American made car I have purchased in 20 years, a loaded LT dealer demo with 3000 miles. Got a great deal in December, 30% off sticker. It has leather and safety package including blind spot, and automatic braking which are great! Love the Apple Car Play, dash layout, plenty of interior room as well as a roomy trunk. The 1.5 turbo is adequate. I drive 30K miles per year so gas mileage was important and so far I’m averaging 30mpg. The only minor gripe I have are the drink holders. They need to be bigger so that large cups will fit better (Yeti). I looked at a number of sedans and the Malibu seemed to be the most bang for the buck. I also think it’s one of the best looking cars on the road. So far I’m thrilled with this car, I hope it will be reliable over the long hall.

Every day items fall short! Interface with cell phones is difficult and cumbersome and requires it to be connected physically to be fully interactive. Bluetooth alone does not provide full functions. GPS has had us driving in complete opposite directions of our destinations. Remote start is very poor limited to two starts only. A serious difficulty when you are unexpectedly delayed and need to start a third or more times. Also the car will not warm the interior of the vehicle remote started. Even when the temp and fan is set to high prior and after two starts. Do not expect to climb into a warm vehicle. The inter fan is weak, the Malibu's dash and floor fan setting on high is equal to most other brands low setting. Last the auto start/stop. Its terribly annoying and cannot be turned off. It creates an unsafe condition at times when parking. You can bypass it by shifting to L6 but its rather inconvenient. Real kicker is the auto stop/start offers no fuel milage benefit. Seems more like a gimmick.

Get the Malibu with all of the safety options available, really provides addition confidence in today’s world of crazy drivers. This car has a lot of room in both the front and back seats, good visibility and really looks good. Great Value and package. Steve Schmitt Chevrolet in Highland, IL. dealer team was great to work with was treated like an old friend with respect and got great deal.

I really enjoy the 2017 Chevy Malibu Ls, its a major upgrade from the 2009 Malibu i had. Its so stylish and sleek i feel great driving it. The only thing missing is Xm Satellite radio it bothers me that my 2009 had XM but my 2017 doesn’t that just doesn’t makes sense! That why i gave 4stars but other than that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CAR I LOVE IT

Lots of leg room! Trunk room, Fancy, techie stuff too, hands free cell phone, Navigation system, Onstar and all the fun stuff. The car is low to the ground so gets a LOT of road noice. When you are on the phone the radio and air conditioner turn off so you can hear on the phone, so maybe not so good in a hot climate if you talk a lot. It's got the get up and go you need even with a 4 cyl.

Just bought my new 2017 LS about 2 weeks ago & im so in love thus far. There are just a few minor things i wish i can change. 1st the car sits really low, 2nd the small storages is really small, 3rd no place for your sun glasses, 4th no light on the sun shade mirror, 5th blind spot assist would be nice, 6th seat adjustments are manual. Other than that this car looks great, drives great, has alot of nuce features, & is really good on gas.

Do not buy a 2017 Malibu with the Sport Package option. The car rides horrible. It finds every bump in the road. You will regret buying one if you do. Dwight Ware Watson. Rocky Mount N.C.
