I had a 2011 Equinox LT that I traded in for a 2017. I wanted the same body style I had - before the 2018 redesign. I found a gently used fleet vehicle they classified as LT w/ 1LT. It's loaded. Heated seats, temperature control, running lights, etc. Don't need all that, but it is fun to have. I'm getting 29.1 mpgs commuting, which is better than the 2011. Can't wait to see what it does on the highway on a long trip! I like the Equinox so much I've bought two of them now. It's the perfect size for my needs. It gets me from point A to point B safely and in comfort and all the tall people in my family can fit in this vehicle. 6' 3" inches in the back seat, no problem. I have back issues and the seats in these vehicles are wonderful. I can go long distances with no discomfort. It is easy to get in and out of and I have plenty of room to move and haul anything and everyone. Plenty of room for the pets and crates too. It may not be the perfect vehicle for everyone, but it's the perfect vehicle for me. I love my Equinox!

So Far So Good

2017 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

Have only less than 300 miles so far but I have been very happy. I really wanted a V6 AWD but there weren't any available at this dealership and frankly I was tired of car shopping so I went ahead with the 4 cyl without AWD on a 2 yr lease. Figured if I wasn't happy I'd only have to deal with it for 2 yrs. For the price, this is a great SUV. The Equinox is roomy, handles very nicely, seats are very comfortable, especially with the 8 way power driver seat. It's quiet, has a nice interior and is spacious. The 2018 redesign is smaller which is why I went with the 17 - roomier seating and more cargo space. I also like the reclining rear seats, which I don't believe the 2018 had. Another favorite thing is that the sun visors, when moved to the side window have a sliding capability so that they can actually block out the sun. Would I recommend this vehicle? Yes definitely. I am already thinking that at the end of the lease I will keep this vehicle.

Poor Driver's seat, 10/31/2016

Picking up a 2017 Equinox 2LT today. On the way home, I was constantly changing the seat positions and could not find a comfortable position. The seat is similar with the Chevy Cruze, the front of the seat does not tilt down far enough and feel like sitting in the bucket. I wish the seat has five more degrees of travel. I'm thinking of taking the vehicle back to have a 1/2 inch spacers added to the rear of the seat. All the money GM spent studying seats, and they still did not get it right. They need to improve is the driver's seat and provide more adjustment. Update: Dealer did not want to install the spacers so I did it myself. Used two lug nuts acting as the spacers and longer bolts, I had the rear of the driver's seat raised about 3/4". My gosh, it's so comfortable now. Simple thing like this can make driving more pleasurable.

We bought the Equinox because we needed a car that could be towed 4-wheels-down behind our RV and, happily, the Equinox fits the bill nicely. We bought the 2.4L 2WD because we were interested in fuel economy, but the mileage that we're getting doesn't really support our decision - it's much poorer than we figured it would be considering the relatively low vehicle weight (about 3700 lb). The acceleration likewise was surprisingly bad. That said, we're happy with the vehicle - the interior is nicely appointed with lots of conveniences, although we had to buy the LT version to get hands-free bluetooth and back-up camera. We wanted GPS as well but would have had to spend more to get the LTZ version. One surprise is that Chevy doesn't want you to maintain your own transmission fluid level, so there's no dipstick for the transmission.

EQUINOX 6 Cylinder Is The ONLY Way To Go!!

I rented the 6 cylinder model (the review options didn't have the 6 cylinder option available to select) two weeks ago for my week long trip to Maine from Avis at Boston Logan airport. Had 10K miles on it so it's been used but I was really impressed with the throttle response and handling in Boston area traffic and going up and down East Coast highway 1. The car was tight and had no unusual or annoying squeaks or vibrations. -At home in the high mountains out West I drive a 1 ton Dodge 4x4 pickup and a Toyota FJ 4x4 equally off road and on pavement so I pay close attention to unusual noises, etc. This Equinox had the sunroof option - quiet operating and quick. Had plenty of room for two large rolling duffle bags and backpacks and was a pleasure to drive - with or without gear. I'm a fit 5'10" and the seats are very comfortable and adjusted perfectly to my liking. The interior was nicely appointed and not cheap looking. Really seems to be a great SUV with a peppy power plant. Yep, I'd buy one! 12/03/16 UPDATE: I bought a 2017 Equinox Premier Edition in the Patriot Blue color and remote start option for our cold climate! 02/21 UPDATE: This car still runs like a top with 70K+ miles. Everything functions as expected and the interior still looks fresh. No issues to complain of. So glad it has the V6 as Chevy discontinued the V6 Equinox. No regrets!

Radio sometimes doesn't work , cannot turn on or off, along with the temperature fan numbers disappearing, and the hands-free phone not working (all at the same time). Back-up camera sometimes stays on when in drive. It's real interesting watching cars behind you when driving. Problem corrects itself when hitting a bump in the road, turning on and off the engine or just normal driving. First time it happen there was just red lines for the back-up camera and red blocks were the temperature fan numbers would be. Taken to chev service dept, but they say can't find problem, and of course by the time I get it in for service the problem as corrected itself. Added note this is a 3.6L 6cyl not a 2.4 4cyl. I'm documenting every time the problems occur for the next month. Got out of service (after 4 hours) for them to tell me they can't find the problem. I have documented the problem 6 times since leaving the chev service dept yesterday. [contact info removed]

The SUV ran great until 55,000. The transmission went and they could not fix it. There's has been other people with the same issue. The mechanics followed the so called "Bulletin" and it did not fix it. The dealer had to contact GM engineers for an answer. Got a fair trade-in and bought a Ford Escape. Never buying Chevy again!!!!!

My 2017 Chevy Equinox pros and cons

I am currently leasing a 2017 Chevy Equinox. I drive 60 miles every work day. What I LOVE about the SUV is the heated seats, sitting up higher than other vehicles, and the back-up camera (although the camera lens gets dirty too easily). I also like the way it rides. Quite comfortable for a larger vehicle. What I HATE are the WAY TOO MANY buttons on the control panel which requires you to take your eyes off the road too often and for too long a period of time when you want to check something or change a setting. None of this is convenient for the driver! I'd be happier with a simple sliding control knob to turn my heat up and down. I also HATE the fact that the heater/vent/air info does not stay up on the screen. In order to see where your heat or air is set you need to hit a button to bring the info back up on the screen.....again and again. I also HATE the location and lack of adjusting ability of the drivers side vents. The one by the door is practically useless! You can't turn it up high enough to feel the air on your face. The other one blows air around the steering wheel. And what's this bull about no longer installing CD players??? One more thing.....I am 5’4” and every time I get into the drivers seat I have to bend my head down and to the left or else I hit my head. Would I consider another Equinox in the future? Only if they offer one without all the computerized stuff that I don't need!

No acceleration, bad transmission

Never buy chevy, 08/19/2020

This car is garbage. It never had any power to begin with and sounded like it was about to explode anytime we passed another vehicle on the highway. At 36,000 miles it started missing gears or wouldn't start from a stop. This is an automatic transmission! We took it into the shop and they replaced a part. A month later the transmission died completely so we took it back. Another part was replaced and it still wouldn't drive. So they put a brand new transmission in and 3 weeks later, it's back in the shop for the same problems. I will never buy another chevy vehicle again, general motors has seriously gone down in quality and isn't worth the price tag they put on their vehicles. We now owe 2k more on it than it's worth, so we're stuck with a bad decision. Don't make the same mistake, avoid all chevy vehicles!

I had a 2009. I recently got the 2017 and I love it. The only thing that I can complain about is the connection with my phone. When I plug it in, it automatically goes to music on my phone. That and making calls through the phone. When you try to use the phone and not the Bluetooth it will reconnect you back to the Bluetooth. Other than that, I love it!!!

I have had my car now for 9 months. I bought it as a salvage car from Philly. I am in CT. The car originally had less than 20,000 miles on it. Since than I have put nearly 20K additional on it. Yes, I drive A LOT! The car has been wonderful. Its never failed me in any situation I have been in. Its stabel in it handling, its durable, reliable, powerful, and fun to drive with its 301 ponies under the hood. My next car will likely be a blazer because its nearly the size of thia car and has the same engine this does. My family has and is presently owning 4 3.6 liter V6's. Regardless ofbwhat you might read about that wngines reliability, it is a VERY RELIABLE engine provided to dont beat the guys out of it and you change the oil more rather than less frequently. You also should be using full synthetic oil, not a blend or conventional oil, there is a major difference between the 3 of them. (Why Edmunds doesn't list a V6 AWD variant category for this vehicle is beyond me. YES, they absolutely made a V6 3.6 liter w/AWD. My car is an LT version.) ******UPDATE********** MY Equinox now has been with me for a little less than 3 years (2 years 8 months as of this update. No issues as of yet. I have 84,300 miles on it. No problems or concerns as of now. I change the oil at 5,000-7,000 mile increments with full synthetic oil. That has been essentially it. Outide of brakes, tires, small expected stuff like that. *******UPDATE*********

We bought a 2013 Equinox in 2014 and loved that car. Never had any trouble with it what so ever so we recently bought a beautiful black 2017. In winter we go on a month long trip. My husband takes his golf clubs, his bicycle (broken down) and enough other things we would need for a month vacation. I feel the cargo space is plenty big enough for our needs. Though I’m not discounting the negative comments there are plenty of Equinox on the highway to the point that my husband and I count the number we see when we are on errands. Based on that I would say there are a great many happy Equinox owners and this is the only model car that we have bought twice so we are also happy, happy with our purchase.

So, I have a 6 cyclinder Premier version bought 09/2016. Wonderful! I made sure I have the 6c cyl due to test driving the 4 cyl on freeway and entrance ramp and knowing it would be under powered. My 6 cyl has 300HP and I never feel under powered. Most comfortable vehicle I have ever driven. I have just over 18k miles on it now and this will be a vehicle I already know I will have for at least a decade. It's comfortable, roomy, and very powerful. Quiet while driving and the Premier trim has all the features I want. It's gorgeous inside, leather seats, very room, non-cramped, great sound system and I have a lot of confidence I will survive in an accident. I recommend this vehicle to everyone I talk to. I was going to purchase the Mazda CX-5 prior to this, but this is so much more comfortable and Mazda dealership irritated me. You can't go wrong on this vehicle.

Purchased Equinox on June 20th 2017. Sept 11th 2017 went to start the car and it was dead. Called roadside asst. sent tow which jumped the battery and the car started ran car over 1/2 hour and drove it for 1/2 hour, brought it back turned it off 45 minutes later tried to start car dead. Next day towed to dealer today 9/13/17 still have no response from dealer what is wrong (battery, alternator, starter or parasite drain). Don't feel very confident in this car. Less than 3 months since purchase and only 730 miles and I have NO CAR.

Picked up a very clean, well maintained 2017 Equinox 2.4L AWD Premier in March 2019. Overall, a very nice car. Can't really praise the dash and DIC, but then, most all vehicles today have a lame dash / DIC and controls. It had 35,000 miles on it so I did a round of maintenance on it for good measure. Very easy vehicle to work on. I did the transfer / differential / transmission fluid changes, cleaned the MAF and Throttle Body, and did a intake valve cleaning procedure. Vehicle runs great. Handles our muddy gravel roads where we live very well. Ours is flex fuel capable and E85 has been $.80 to $1 less than regular gas on our area for two years, so all we have put in the Nox thus far is E85. We live more rural, so the acceleration of the 2.4L is more than adequate since we are not trying to go from 0 to 80 in 100 feet on an on ramp. Vehicle DIC showed a life mpg of 25 mpg when we got it. On flex fuel, it has been a combined 21 mpg. But with the low price of E85, that still is cheaper per mile than using regular and getting the better mpg.

Oil Issues - Rear Main Seal gone in five days

Evelyn Sigmon, 05/26/2021

6 of 7 people found this review helpful

I own a 2017 Equinox and within 50,000 miles, I had the rear windshield just blow out while it was sitting their. The electric panel for the windows had to be replaced. And, the worst part of all is the rear main seal went out. Not once, but twice. It went out within five days of each other. The worse part about that is that with the car having no oil in it the engine is now bad and Chevy will not replace my car. They charged me for an oil change because I was informed at Classic Chevy (Lake City) that an oil change does not come with fixing the rear main seal. Are you kidding me. I own a brand new vehicle and just paid to have the oil changed and you are charging me to have it changed again. OK!!! This is the worst care ever. STAY AWAY FROM IT!!! The rear main seal goes constantly and than once it goes your car has to have oil constantly. My car goes through, on average, one quart of oil every week. My car also has a gas smell, which I just found out is common on this vehicle. This is a comfortable vehicle. But if you want to SPEND A LOT OF MONEY FIXING IT, PLUS MAKING A CAR PAYMENT, THAN THIS IS THE CAR FOR YOU. I RECOMMEND STAYING FAR AWAY FROM THIS CAR. AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE IS YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR YOU.

Just rented this brand new UV for a week. First off the car's exterior design looks nice, Interior is also very comfy especially the driver side and driver console, everything is well placed, The tech on the car dash was awesome the infotainment system. What is bad about this car is the power, it is seriously lacking power, acceleration is horrible, i mean the worst of any car i have driven. The backseat space is also pretty limited if you have people in the back. The gas mileage also was not great, it eats up a lot of gas. Overall a nice looking and comfortable car but the serious lack of power made me want to return this rental car in early for something else.

Retirement Car Not!

First of all, I love 98% of my new 2017 Chevy Equinox. I have been a Ford person all my life. But, in researching for a new car, we found the Equinox had everything we wanted at a lower price. However, there are two things that I don't like about my new car. The first thing is the car tank on the passenger side. I bought this car to be my retirement car. I wanted to have my car paid for before I retire and have time to enjoy the ride. But I don't find it to safe if I am alone to get out of my car to go around to the other side to pump gas. Please make all new cars with gas tanks on driver's side. I also had the opportunity to ride in the back seat. I didn't realize that there were no air conditioning vents in the back. When having " hot flashes ", you need air. The passengers up front were freezing so we could get enough air in the back! Please make sure that there are air vents in the back for passengers! I have learned that the 2018 Chevy Equinox have these things corrected. Looks like I needed to research a little more for my retirement car!

Call me "One Ina Million", Why me?!

Okay, is it just me and my luck (or should I say unlucky)? Purchased my 2017 Equinox Premier in December 2016, in May of 2018 just out-of-the-blue I get in my car, gently shut my door and BLAM the rear window completely blew out from the inside out! Did GM make good on it, No! Okay now and since September 2018, the monitor screen icons will not read out any of my temperature adjustments. The bottom of the screen goes completely black except for a few boxes outlined in red and one icon of a car with a simi-circle arrow. I cannot see any temperature readings or does any of the temperature/defroster/AC buttons, knobs, lights for seat heaters work. This does this intermittently. Usually when it's freezing cold and when I need it the most. I took it to our local Chevrolet Dealership and explained to them in detail and even showed them exactly where on the screen where this is/isn't happening. Days later after picking it up, same thing happens again. Called Dealership, took it back in and they said "that's strange, we replaced the radio." Who said anything about my radio not working? So after explaining it to them again in detail what was happening, they did a little research. It appears that GM is aware of this issue and is trying to resolve the problem. But in the meantime, GM tells the Dealerships NOT TO remove or replace any parts from vehicles until they resolve the issue. So now what? I drive around in a frozen car that I can't heat or defrost or air condition if need be? The Dealership and GM has no clue when they will resolve this issue. Unbelievable! BTW, we paid cash for our Equinox, $34,000. No bartering, no bickering. And this is what I get?! Also one last note, along with my rear window blowing out, the front window weatherstrip on the lower cowling is/has begun lifting up. The Dealership replaced and fixed it, but dented the upper fender in doing so. Another problem, GRRRRRR!!!! Yep, call me "One Ina Million", when lighting strikes!☹️ Very disappointed with GM and as for our local Dealership, stupid is what stupid does. On the positive note, love everything else about my Equinox Premier.

2017 Chevy Equinox LT-engine performance

I purchased this SUV used in March 2018 with 21K miles. I really liked the looks and seat comfort. Two weeks after purchasing the car, the stability track sensor went bad, no problem there, Chevy fixed it at no charge. On April 2019, battery died, car is not even 2 years old (manufactured in August 2017), Chevy dealer said that battery's life average is 2 years, really??? Now, three months later the same alert came (stability control) but Chevrolet ended up changing a defective fuel pump, again car is not even 2 years old. I am glad I purchased an extended warranty, so I will be cover for the next 4 years or until the car hits 125K. I love the heated seats (nice lumbar massage), leather steering wheel cover, the cargo space, the smoothness of the ride, the radio, satellite, and the quiet engine. What I am not crazy about it, is the MPG; 90% of my travel is highway with cruise control and the MPG is max at 22. I use the E85 gas with no problems so far. I know if I fuel with regular gas (89), I'll get more mileage, but paying 20 ¢ less per E85 gallon works for me! I have no choice other than to keep the car for a few more years because it owes more than is worth. But it has let me stranded 3 times in 16 months, so I am not too confident on the future performance of this car. 7/10/2020 10 months after getting the fuel pump replaced, car had the same problems. Per the Chevy dealer mechanic, the culprit of continuous fuel pump failure is the E85 gas. The recommendation is to alternate fuels every other tank filling. The E85 "gunks" the fuel pump. Which contradicts the manufacturer's recommendation which encourages the use of E85 gas. So, I guess Chevrolet is using a low quality fuel pump that is not designed for 100% E85 fuel use.

Believe it or not this is our first SUV. We have driven Impala's in the past and still have a 2013 Impala. This is why we decided to lease this Equinox to try it out. So far my husband (he and our 39 year old son) love it. They insisted on a 6 cyl. with AWD so it does handle great and is comfortable. We are all tall so having the extra leg room in the back seat is great when needed. Also, like the good size cargo area. After only 2 weeks I think we all agree this was a good choice for the price.

After owning a traverse, I find the equinox to be a disappointment. It struggles badly in eco mode. Its barely comfortable and mileage should be much better for a 4 cylinder vehicle. If you buy one of these, make sure you buy an extended warrantee .

Recalls on recalls on recalls, dealerships not doing anything and breaking more things every visit, blaming problems on the gas station (who did quality testing and found no issues), just an over unsafe car and no one to help fix it because it is literally garbage. Do not buy. You will hate your life every day until you can get out of your lease, which they will be sure to give you hell for.

Engine Designed to Fail

Do not buy any of the Chevrolet vehicles with the 2.4L or 3.6L engine, including the Chevy Equinox. The engine components are made so poorly the engine timing chain will fail resulting in engine failure, just after the warranty is up. I have a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox Premier with the 2.4L FWD with up to date maintenance, and out of no were the engine needed to replaced just after hitting 60K miles. There is no reason to trust the integrity of the Chevrolet.

I needed an AWD SUV to comfortably transport my dog. I roam miles and miles of back roads in search of photo locations, often on dirt roads and certainly in the winter, too. This vehicle has exceeded my expectations. The rear cargo area is exclusively for my 75# dog. He's very content back there, too. I can see him in my rearview mirror and often he sits and watches traffic behind me. The seating in this vehicle is bolstered well, offering me comfort during my 500 mile weekly driving. The cockpit layout is simple and logical, nearly identical to the 2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel I traded in. I also kayak so, I appreciate the ease of using the roof rail system. Fuel mileage is important to me. My average over the 15k miles I've driven so far, has returned about 28 mpg. My best 50 mile stretch got me 38 mpg! Overall, I feel that this vehicle is well built, dependable and comfortable to drive for long periods.

Climate control system (heat, air conditioning, vent) will not turn on. Screen remains black after selecting the desired system or temperature. Found that if you turn the vehicle off for a few hours sometimes the system will come back on by itself. Totally unreliable and very inconvenient on hot or cold days.

Love our 2016 LT so much we bought a 2017 Premier

1 of 1 people found this review helpful

Both vehicles have been very inexpensive to own. The only expenses have been normal maintenance. The Premiere is just a bit fancier with power hatch, leather, both front are full power and driver's side memory, some extra exterior chrome. The Premiere has low profile 18" tires so the ride is firmer than the 2016 LT which has standard 17" tires. Both have Michelin tires and got almost 80k miles when replaced on the 2016 LT and was surprised how expensive the same tires were to replace. Doubtful we will get the same miles on the 18" tires on the Premier, totally different type of Michelin tire but still very capable. Rear cargo area has the very minimum space we need. The 4 cylinder in both provide decent MPG, the only time I miss a V6 is when its fully loaded for road trips thru the mountains. For whatever reason the 2016 LT feels it has just a tad bit more zip than the 2017 Premier. We have taken the 2016 LT on most of our roadtrips and it has been outstanding in all weather and road conditions. The low cost to own and reliability was our main incentive to purchase a second Equinox. My wife has the 2017 Premier as her daily driver while I'm perfectly happy to have the 2016 LT as my daily driver. We have a 2009 Chevy Cobalt coupe as a secondary vehicle as well as a 2005 GMC Sierra 4X4 longbed Pickup with almost 275k miles as a work/tow/haul vehicle. All have been reliable and worthy vehicles. Because of the miles on the GMC it has been a bit more costly to maintain. Still has the original engine, transmission and transaxle. I am very focused on the maintenance of our vehicles and expect to get our moneys worth out of them.

As soon as my 2017 Equinox hit 60,000 miles the battery died, needed new water pump, needed 4 new tires, need new intake manifold, serpentine belt, 2 sensors for the engine. I have spent so much money on this vehicle. All these repairs happened within 13 months of each other. It's like when they built this car, they only built it to last until 60,000 miles.

We bought this new 2017 Equinox Premier from a local dealership in August 2017. Since day one it has performed without any problems and still operates as it did five years ago. All the features on the Premier package are great. The lane change warning and distance warning are two of my favorites. Also, the computerized feature keeping track from gas mileage to oil quality are features that keep me on track when time to service the vehicle. The WiFi capability is another feature well worth noting if you have children or grandchildren. The is a great vehicle if you keep track of the necessary maintenance schedule and service it at the appropriate times.

Love my SUV. Not too big, not too small. Plenty of pickup and a nice ride. Have it for almost 5 years. Almost 16,000 miles on it. The only thing I did was rotate the tires, change the oil, and got a new battery about a year ago. Doesn't get the greatest gas mileage, but a great car.

Of course this is the base model so I guess the seats might be better in the upscale models, but the side bolsters in the front seats are so high it’s difficult to get out of them. It’s not like the car is going to be taking corners near 1g so I see no reason why the seat bolsters are so high. That’s the only thing I have found wrong with the car, oh road noise, but because it’s the base model it must not have any insulation installed.

Average CUV. Nothing really outstanding or negative about this vehicle. Fuel mileage is 28 mpg summer and 23 mpg winter. This is a combination city/hwy. Ride is very quiet. Attribute to the Michelin tires. One fault with these tires though is that winter traction is terrible. Just the slightest aòmount of snow and the vehicle will slide badly.
