A reliable workhorse
Had my 2004 Colorado extended cab 2WD 5-speed manual truck for 14 years since it was new. It's a perfect truck for handling homeowner chores such as hauling mulch, lawn mowers, construction debris to the landfill. Haven't towed anything with it. It's been very reliable for a vehicle that was a brand new model when I bought it. Good gas mileage - 20 in town, about 26 highway, so close to the EPA estimates. I love the size - fits in the garage with room for my workbench. An extended cab full-size truck would not let me do that. It's comfortable with ample interior room with the extended cab. Forward-facing back seat worked when the kids were small, now the space behind the front seat is good for tools, groceries, etc. No adult should be required to sit back there. One maintenance complaint has been deposits on throttle body that have required cleaning twice to maintain performance, and I use name-brand gasoline. Overall, it's been a good choice for me.

Reliably breaks down
If you need exercise, then it's great, because you'll be walking plenty. Mine usually leaves me stranded for various reasons 3 to 4 times a year. If you ever think of owning one then get your head examined and possibly commit yourself, because you aren't well. I have 180000 on it and I'm on my third round of sensors, rebuilt the motor at 140000, replaced the blower motor resistor 4x, the CD player ate a CD 3 weeks after the warranty expired and I've had it to 3 different alignment shops after the dealership couldnt get it to stop eating tie rod ends. This morning it left me stranded at the gas station for reasons yet to be determined; probably the security system from what I've been reading. I have to run around with 700 lbs of sand in it regardless of the season to keep the tires from spinning after it rains. The back seats are unusable and unsafe due to the angle you have to sit at and the lack of support to sit on. All said and done, avoid this truck, and if you have one, do yourself and have it crushed sooner rather than later. Good job GM on losing a customer for life.

Z71 4WD LS 5 cyl auto
I took my truck from Seattle to So. Cali. to visit family. Yes I had to cross the mountains which according to the gotta have V6 / V8's fans said the Colorado was very poor on power. I was more than very pleased to find this little 5 cyl was truely much more powerful then I thought. The gas mileage was also very good on this long trip averaging for the total trip mid 22 MPG. Overall comfort was quite nice considering I was driving a 4WD truck. The interior is just about the same as the rest of the trucks out there, not very exciting. Then for a few dollars I can have the interior trim peices painted to brighten things up.
Walked Away Safely
On May 7, 2006, I was in a crash that involved my Colorado. I hit water and lost control and totaled my truck. After the fact, you could not recognize that it was a Colorado, but the fact remained I walked away from the accident with only a mild concusion. Its design, I think, was the main reason I'm still alive today. Thanks Chevy.
The Worst Truck Chevy Ever Built
I purchased this pickup in 2004 basically due to the rising cost of gas. It has been a electronic nightmare. First the heater messed up, they changed it under warranty. Next the radio would not go off. They looked at it said found nothing. Next the bolts on the door fell off they been replaced twice more. Now the heater is making noises again. The bolt is off the door again, which causes a popping noise each time you open the door. And yesterday the driver's side window would not roll down. And of course it is no longer under warranty. And it has a recall because the brake lights fail to work. I've owed 4 Chevy trucks and the Colorado is not a lower price truck, but just a cheap made truck.
2004 colorado 4wd ls ext cab z71
I had a chevy s-10 for about three years it was a 2001 that i traded in on my colorado. I had it about 6- weeks now, and I just love it it looks great and it feels much BIGGER THEN MY S-10. I just wish i bought the crew cab and not the ext cab , but i still love my truck .. my ext cab has the vortec 3500 220hp 15 engine in it . I cant fint it on the chart above.is this a 3.5l 5cyl 4a? thank you jim schrader
Excellent Small Pickup
My Colorado came with the I5, auto, buckets and the ext. cab. I spend countless hours in my truck. Contrary to the pro reviews, I find nothing wrong with the interior design/materials. Compared to Japanese branded trucks, the quality difference in materials was negligible. Every part on this truck is aligned as expected and perfectly matched and spaced. The ride is wonderful, the truck goes exactly where you point it, and doesn't wander over bumpy roads. Dodge, Toyota and Nissan trucks were nice, but not as good. GM got it right, this is an excellent truck.
The Lucky One
I own a 2004 Colorado extented cab ZQ8. I love my truck. The only problem I'm having is the AC works good on 4 but on 1,2,3 don't hold your breath. I have 62,000 miles and I still get around 24 - 27 mpg. This truck has the get up and go. I turn heads and when I'm on the freeway people move out of my way. I'm not sure if it's the yellow that makes them move or if they are letting me by just to get a glance of the beauty
04 z85 LS 2wd,5cyl,auto
I'm 20 and this is the first new vehicle I have owned and I love it, I have the 5cyl. auto and it gets great gas milage, no mechanical problems, and is pretty quick, I love this truck.
Colorado Z71 EXT. I5
GM did a great job with this truck. I was a little skeptical about the 5 cylindar idea, but this truck just blew me away. It climbs hills without any hesitation, it handles very car-like and it looks tough! And I'm talking about the extended cab Z71 4x4. On a bumpy road, it's a bit rough, but for normal driving, it terrific.
Colorado
Truck is a great size for someone who doesnt want a full size. Rides great, gets excellent highway mileage (23- 25mpg), good city (16-18mpg), however when it is cold out and you have the heat on or the 4x4 expect (13-14mpg).
Blue Collar Workers Beware
Supposedly a work truck, front tires destroyed due to front end"misalignment" due to vehicle loading (tool box and ladder racks weighing less than 300 lbs.) Was advised by service department to purchase new set of "truck" tires since the ones that came with the truck were passenger tires.

Sporty truck, but needs major improving!
I've always been a GM person all the way, but after seven months of ownership with this truck, I'm going to reconsider that in the future. I am shocked at Chevrolet's cheap interior and poor build quality on this truck. First, there is no padding on the door or center console armrests, and this is very uncomfortable while driving. Next, I can't understand for the life of me why the did not install a keyhole on the passenger's side door, especially since there is no power locks or remote keyless entry. The truck rides and drives good, but when you hit a bump it really jars the interior of the truck. If I had it to do over, I would have definitely looked around at other trucks...
the truck
could use the six cylindar back....it would give it a little more pep too make the driving experience a little better.
New Ride
It's a great truck for getting back and forth to work and doing the small things around the house.
Still Spectacular
Anyone looking to buy a compact pickup should really consider the Colorado. I am in sales and drive my truck every day. I have 59,000 on the clock and it has been nothing short of spectacular. The only part I have needed to replace on my truck was a faulty O2 sensor, other than the standard maintenance items. My truck rides great, handles great and the I5 motor has plenty of power, even when pulling my two horse trailer. If you want V8 power, buy a full size..
Never Buy a First-Year Product!
This truck replaced a 2001 Dodge Dakota. It is equipped as a 4x4 extended cab with the I-4 engine, which is a horrible mismatch for a truck of this weight. The construction of the box is terrible, with noticeable gaps in the welds where the floor of the box joins the front wall. It came from the factory with the front end out of alignment. It has had non-stop power steering problems, The pump was replaced under warranty, after having not been properly filled at the factory. The replacement was also noisy. It is now down because of failure of the high- pressure hose. Several bowtie-fan friends have called it a lousy representation of a what a Chevy truck should be.
Sled tower
the truck has been 100% reliable with 110,000 km on it. Average fuel economy has been 23.5 mpg. I did not care for the factory seats so I upgraded them to buckets with a console. I use the truck alot for towing snowmobiles on a trailer up mountain roads and for work. the truck has also performed well off road when required.
Roll Over
Had the truck for 4 years and never had any problems. Got good gas mileage and enough towing power to pull a fishing boat. Wrecked/totaled it this winter in icy weather, rolled once landing on its wheels - with the engine still running. Tough truck that was built well, definitely got my money's worth and am looking to buy another.
Finally!
I used to be an S-10 owners, but went Ford/Mazda for 10 years. lots of interior head and leg room. I can really notice the 220 ponies, but the torque is a little lower than my 4.0L Mazda. I won't be pushing the truck to its limits so this is entirely acceptable. four wheel drive engages very smooth and quietly, and the General tires on it perform excellent in the snow. The engine is virtually silent, and has plenty of power for my uses. An occasional load of dirt or lumber, or towing walleye boat. Overall this truck is a perfect fit for my needs with pleanty of power and more than adequate torque.
Ext. cab Auto Z 85 3.5 LS
Overall I'm very pleased with my new Colorado, its an improvement over my old S-10 . First of all there is more power! You can accelerate up hill with ease. It drives strong with a load as well. I like the interior for the most part, wish some of the sharp edge plastic wasn't there! I also like the higher safety ratings. Few other minor problems: Seat belt lock too easily. I can roll into a yield sign and try to lean over to see the road and I get held back. Maybe the dealer can fix that. I like the look in general especially the front end.
Good little truck
I have owned this vehicle for right at a year now. I purchased it used with 43000 miles on it. I know I paid too much for it but I have no one to blame for that but myself. The vehicle has suprising pep and power for a 5 cyl engine. I'm not completely impressed with MPG as I get anywhere from 17-21 depending on the style of driving I'm doing. I bought the small truck in hopes of better. The truck will absolutely tow a lot more than GM rates it for. Just towed an 8000 lb tractor home after a breakdown. It's definitely worth a look. GM needs to get more advertising out on this vehicle instead of letting it die like I'm hearing they are doing.
2004 CHEVY COLORADO 2.8 EXT.CAB
I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR A LITTLE OVER A MONTH,SO FAR I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS,BUT THE SEATS FEEL CHEAP(PADDING NOT VERY FIRM).TRUCK RIDES SMOOTH AND SOLID WITH NO SQEAKS OR RATTLES.ENGINE(4 CYL.) IS SMOOTH BUT LACKS BOTTOM END POWER.TRNSMISSION(5 SPEED MAN.)SHIFT VERY SMOOTH.THE COLORADO IS A GREAT LOOKING TRUCK BUT THE SHEET METAL IS FLEMSY AND THE PAINT IS FULL OF ORANGE PEEL.
back to GM
After driving the nissan frontier for two years I was glad that chevy introduced a new mid-size truck. this truck is roomy, great handeling, lots of power form the 4 cyl. 5 speed. it's a fun little truck to drive
A awesome truck
My first truck ever it’s done so good I haven’t had anything major wrong yet a couple odds and ends but it’s Norma it ya San 150xxx on it now and it’s still going strong I drove it through about 4 foot of water too and about 12 miles of rugged terrain very durable low end torque 4wd is awesome it got half star for it being a 5 cylinder but it hasn’t been any trouble I just prefer a more balanced motor
Gas hog
I purchased this truck used in 2006. After just a few hundred miles I saw I was in trouble. Running interstate speed, the truck would quiver so bad you were unable to see ot the rearview mirror. It had pleanty of power, but really loved the gas. With gas prices over $4, it had to go.
Needs to be a full size
Chevy did a great thing with making the new Colorados to replace the S-10's. I love my Colorado but after a year there is only one thing I regret about buying it. I wish I had got a full sized Silverado. I love the body style of the Colorado and the full size of the Silverado. If Chevy wants to make another smart decision they need to make the 2007 or 2008 Silverado with the same exterior design as the Colorados. My next vehicle I buy will be a Silverado. I only hope by time I get it the Silverado does
So Far So Good
Traded my 2001 s 10 in on this truck. No problems with the pricing, just a 5 hour ordeal on the trade in value. The truck is much improved over the s 10 but still aint a silveraldo, but its more afforadable. I notice a lot of heads turning as im driving it. it is a real looker. The seat material is a downgrade from the s10 but adaquate.
My Colorado
Drives well. Nimble for it's weight. Interior is quiet.
Excellent little truck
This was definitely a step up from the Ford Ranger I had previously owned. It has plenty of accessible room for two passengers, and plenty of storage for a pickup truck.
Just about a year
I've had my Colorado just about a year and it has been EXCELLENT! The truck went back to the dealer for a loose electrical connector to the emissions system and hasnt been back other than oil changes and a tire rotation. This truck is still very impressive. There are no squeaks or rattles, with over 20K on the clock. The I5 performs nicely. It's not a tire burner, but there is plenty of oomph when needed It pulls my horse trailer with no problems and performs predictably with a full load in the bed. Handling is excellent, as it is better than a few cars I have owned. My Orange Sunburst Chevy still turns heads and looks great. I'd still pick it over a 2005 Toyota or Nissan.
Robke Rules!
This is a great truck. It is the perfect size, nicely powered and very comfortable - as are all Chevy's products. Just a joy to drive.
Colorado
Very reliable. Very few problems, If any, they were under waranty. Truck handles very well, Gas mileage is not bad.
Great Truck
I have driven Fords for 30yrs this is my 2nd Chevy. This truck is great. Well pleased. Good on gas, 3.5 motor 21-23 around town, great for 4x4. Chevy built a great truck in this line.
A Senior with a Desire for Sporty
Am a senior tired of the expected style for seniors. Love the handling, convenience, selection and dependability of the Colorado. Have the 5 cyl, extended cab which is not avail on the selection for this survey. Love it.
Colorado
I am very happy with my Colorado to date. Although it has already been into the shop for engine problems, and had new springs installed and new spark plugs. The fuel economy is not impressive so far. But, I love the drive and it is very comfortable on long trips. Took it on an 8 hour drive and it was a pleasure.
first new truck
I really like my truck. I have the Z85 with the I-5 engine(which wasn't an option when filling out this form). However, it's not as comfortable to drive on long trips as I expected. The lumbar support hits me about 4 inches too high. Also, if you plan on using a child's car seat in the back of the extended cab (using the jump seats) try your car seat before you buy!!! My daughter's car seat hangs off the jump seat by about 60%, which makes me relucatant to put her in the back. Unfortunately, I can't use the front seat because there is no airbag over- ride.
FIrst Year Mistake
Absolutely horrible experience. Engine has failed twice. Exhaust system has failed twice.Transmission system failed once. GM covered exhaust and transmission, but fails to stand behind their engine. Vehicle only has 32k miles, 2nd engine failure at 20 months old.
Nice Job Chevy!!
First to Clarify, I have a z85 ext cab automatic 4X4 with 3500 vortec. This truck is terriffic! It runs great:Power(not as torquey as the old 4.3 but power throughout the RPM range is much better) And it rides like a car. Most comfortable, best handling truck I have ever been in. Besides loaded Silverado. I took this truck for the 24hr test drive and liked it so much I bought the demo. The stereo with XM is great. People bust in the interior as being bland and cheap..Come on , its a truck and the controls and instrument layout is cool and functional. Tacoma same overall look to inside but much coller outside.
Electrical Gremlins!
I purchased the 04 model in 05. Nice looking truck but here is the issues I have had. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!! Brake lights just stop working intermittently. (Rear ended twice but can't prove the lights were not working at time) I had the driver side door locks replaced twice! Drv side windows "sometimes" don't work. Now psngr side windows don't work. "sometimes" AC fan is noisy. (Very annoying!) Fuel rating is wrong. I only get about 17 mpg if I am lucky and have the wind blowing behind me. It already burned up the cat conv in only 40k miles!
Used 2004 Colorado Crewcab 2WD 2.8L/M5
Bought this used with 49K miles 5 months ago, now has 55k miles. The guy that traded it in thought the truck had electrical issues because blower speeds 1-3 would cut out and the CD player wouldnt eject. I bought the truck with little fear being that Im a technician. Tracked the blower issue down to a loose connection at the connector on the blower resistor. The CD drive was jammed with crumbs/dust, and just needed to be cleaned and lubed. Fixed both at a cost of $0 (probably $500 otherwise) and the truck has been great since. No leaks anywhere and still feels solid. I average 21 in the city, and 25-26 on the highway with the 4 cylinder/M5 combo.
Chevrolet Colorado Z85 4wd, I5
I've owned this truck almost 2 months now and have driven it 4,000 miles. I love everything about it so far. It is a great step up from my 1991 S10, and the rear seats in the ext. cab seem much safer than the 1994-2003 Ext. Cab S10's. The ride and handling are great. The I5 engine has got plenty of power and torque to get the job done. My truck has the I5 Engine, Automatic Transmission, Locking Diffential, 4wd.
I Love My Truck
I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK IN JANUARY AND HAVE JUST TURNED OVER 9000 MILES. I WILL TELL YOU I HAVE NEVER OWNED A PICKUP BUT I GOT THE PERFECT ONE FOR ME.I FEEL THAT THE COLORADO IS THE BEST THING CHEVY DID BY UPGRADING THE S-10. THANK YOU!
Colorado
Starts right up at 20 below 0. Rides good. I will buy another one soon. Family and friends like it very much. Rides like a car on the interstate. Had no trouble going in snow .
luv my truck
I have a lot of fun w/ my Colorado. I take offroading pretty much every weekend. I have had a couple of problems w/ it, like some electrical issues with the ignition and starter, but that is to be expected with a new style vehicle. I am confident that Chevy will work the bugs out of it, and it will be one of the best Mid-sized trucks on the market. The biggest issue that I have is the lack of accessories available for it. I want a lift-kit, so the thing can have a little more ground clearance. So if you chevy manufacturers are listening, get one on the market, quick. Again, overall, I love my truck.
Go with the 3.5 liter
I've always wanted a Silverado but when i got to the dealership it made more econmic sense for me to go with something smaller so i took out the Colorado. So far I love this truck, plenty of power, Inline engines are the best can't be touched, and also excellent decision to make something bigger than an s-10. i get great gas mileage out of a full tank i get about 250 miles which is great for me
nice truck
so far so good, wish it was a bit higher and had larger 16 inch rims i have the optional 5cyl. but wish i had a 6.
Pretty Satisfied
So far it seems to be a real solid truck. The I-5 engine seems to have enough power and the gas mileage is not bad. The heighth of the seats to cause a difficult view when passing but otherwise seams to be a solid truck.
Waste of my money
I saved my money all through highschool and my dad through in half, I got a Colorado for 22k. A year and a half later, 3 power steering pumps, 2 motors, and one steer column. It's worth half what I bought it and the problems keep coming. I can't complain about the gas mileage and it gets going but the problems aren't worth it. I'm overly displeased with my truck
