Used 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Sedan Consumer Reviews
200,000 miles
I bought my Chevy Cavalier when it had 48,000. When I total it out (very sad day for me) she had over 200 thousand miles on her and she started like she was brand new. Not only because it's a Chevy, I also kept up with oil changes, and any standard vehicle maintenance a car needs to perform at its peak. I had my Chevy for Over seven years and the only major issue I had was only one within the seven years and that was the heater coil went out in it. That is it it never overheated, never had any leaks, transmission was no problem. I wish they continued making the Cavalier. Again you also have to do your part and keep up with standard vehicle maintenance especially your oil change every three months or 3,000 miles. I did 4,000 or 4 months because I used Castrol high milage synthetic and a really good filter. A least in my mind the kind of oil and filter matters. Now I want a Chevy Malibu. I think the Chevy cobalt took the place of the Cavalier but I think the Malibu reminds me more of the Cavalier with comfort and the way it drives. I know nothing about cars except for what I learned from my ex husband.

Ms. Fed Up
I do not have a happy report about this model. back to the dealer a total of fifteen (15) times, I've had my driver door serviced for loud noises, ignition switch & lock replaced,AC serviced twice, battery replaced for leaking acid, check ingine light stayed on for days,my theft deterent system had to be reprogrammed, the coil had to be replaced, going 70mph on the highway the car just shut off on me (and this happened twice), fuel pump had to be replaced, cd had to be replaced. I never know when I'm gonna stall on the highway driving this vehicle.

Getting fed up!!
Had A/C problems since I took it off the lot!! Had to be brought back every summer since date of purchase for the A/C. Freon is coming through my vents!! Crack occured after 30,000 miles on the dashboard. Check engine light always comes on, but they cannot find anything wrong with it. (so they say)..Shutters on the highway after reaching 70mph. Sometimes it hesitates on startup. Hesitates a lot when not in motion. Pain in the butt to change headlight bulbs.
Nothing But Frustration
Only 1 year old and in the shop 6 times now.4 times for the same problem: excessive road noise in front tires--I think something's off in balance/make of the car. They swear that the loud squealing is normal. Hum. Something in the steering column broke within 1st month, trunk pops open everytime I drive, and something's wrong with the engine, excessively downshifts and I can't make it up the smallest hill without being passed by 1982 Volvos. GM says, "you'll just have to drive it in 3rd all of the time to fix this, nothing we can do" What?! This car has NO POWER. I'm getting rid of it before something MAJOR goes wrong and I am stranded on the highway.
need new brakes
Purchased my Cavalier in February of 2001. Since then I have made it to 50,000 miles with no major problems. (I have had to replace the tires once.) But now I am noticing a brake problem recently. The Chevy doesn't like to slow down in the rain or ice. So I have to go into the shop for a tune-up and new brakes. But if that is the only thing that goes wrong for the next 50 K miles, then I will be one happy driver. It is a good entry-level car, if you know what you are paying for. It is not a Honda or Toyota, or anything close to that! Make sure that you get all the rebates that come with the car!!!
