I basically agree with all the positive comments about these series ('95-'04) Blazers. I've driven quite a few vehicles in my life and this second hand, high mileage Blazer I bought continues to impress. Mine has been reliable, so far. Original exhaust, 210,000 miles.

4wd nice, guzzles gas and breaks often

bought with 45000, since replaced brakes twice, engine, alternator, starter X 2, wiring problems numerous, check engine soon light has been on at least a half dozen times and required many different repairs. The Blazer just turned 100000 and I am having serious transmission problems. I have always loved Chevys, but I doubt I'll ever buy another after this one. The 4.3 is a slug. wife has a Saturn Vue with the 3.5 Honda engine and it will smoke the 4.3 and gets good MPG. Stay away from the Blazer.

I've always been in love with Honda but recently when my car died, I got a great deal on a Blazer that I couldn't pass up. The transmission had recently been replaced and I figured for the price it was well worth it. After having my Honda for 275,000 miles with no problems, I wanted something very reliable, and I've found it. I've owned it now for about 5 months and it's a great car. Very reliable and starts right up for me every time. I recommend a Chevy Blazer to anyone and everyone. I can't say enough good things about the quality and how well built it is. Chevy is now another auto maker that I will consider purchasing cars from.

This was my second car, and it was the best thing a kid could have. It's 4x4 system got me anywhere and everywhere I wanted to go, places that none of my friends could get to. Loyal, trustworthy, and a real blast. And by real blast, I mean literally. Going over a mountain pass, it threw a rod. Unfortunately replacing the engine would cost as much as the car was worth, so I had to part with it. I researched if this was a regular problem, and to no avail. This was a fluke. It was a great vehicle and only wearing parts had to be replaced. I would get another in good condition in a heart beat.

I first bought my Blazer with 61 k on and at 7 years old. Soon had to replace the usual, (tires, brakes, fluids etc). Overall very reliable if you take care of it. Today with 180k I have to put it away as there are serious problems with age even if you take care of it. Last year the tranny went .... 2400... Never been the same since.... But I love the interior, all leather and with the sunroof and electric features it was great. The gas gauge never worked. Now there is a metallic squealing in first gear ( tranny a year old), and the repair shop long gone. I did get use out of it as I travel a lot and far... Have not had front end or ball joint problems but have had rear end issues(axle&seals)

This has been the most enjoyable car I have ever owned. i usually et rid of cars around 5 years - because they are uncomfortable or just not pleasureable any longer. This car i have never tired of is so comfortable and ergonomic - i have yet to find a car that makes me feel at such ease driving - minus the poor breaking. The reliability has been nothing short of astounding . though i have put some into repairs.. 400 for an ignition switch - 700 for a fuel pump. i spent 55 bucks for a wiper motor - which later was reimbursed for under recall. and i did have the dex cool problem- cost me 141 bucks to replace the radiator - 1300 $ in 14 years.. amazing..

I am the original owner of a 97 2 door model. It has 285000 miles and runs like I got it 22 years ago. Besides normal wear and tear...I am completely satisfied with my baby. I'll NEVER get of it. It's in perfect shape. The only gripe I have is the headlights...not bright enough. Which I'm working on replacing them now.

As a student, I can't afford to waste money on repairs. So far with my Blazer, I've only had to replace the wiper module($60). Everything else is running perfect at 53,000 miles. I do some city driving, but mostly highway and can get over 20 mpg if I drive it easy. Sometimes I haul friends around and I've never had complaints with the interior space or cargo area. 4X4 is nice to have in the winter time.

After four years and 55,000 miles not a single problem and this SUV is still a head turner. Now, I babied it for sure; garaged, oil changes, lube. But in return I've had nothing but good times in this truck. I'll trade in soon (I like to change every 3 years or so) and I only hope my next vehicle is as reliable and fun as the Blazer.

I love my truck. It's 4wd so I can go off road. The miles that I have put on it are from driving from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC before and after my two deployments to Iraq. So I do a lot of freeway driving. And it pulls my trailer with no problem at all. The only thing that I have ever had go wrong with my truck was my mom ran over a stump one time in a field and dented the gas tank but that wasnt that much to fix. All in all I love my truck. and I realy don't want to get rid of it but I want a newer vehicle just like everyone on this earth does.

I've had my Blazer now for about six years and I haven't had a single problem. It's run perfectly, haven't had to put it in a shop, not once. The v-6 puts out great power and it runs very smoothly. It gets almost twenty miles to the gallon in the city and about twenty five on the highway. I love my Blazer and wouldn't sell it for anything.

I purchased the Blazer with 93 grand on the ticker, not knowing any past info on the car. I have 126 grand on it now and it's been a great vehicle other than the fuel pump dieing but what do you expect out of 11 years? All the options work great, I abuse a vehicle as it is my office on wheels every day in Atlanta. I miss the s-series truck line as I've owned a few but I guess I'll keep my Blazer going and replace whatever it needs from years to come! You cant beat the styling and comfort! I love my truck!

First Suv

This was my first SUV purchased. I enjoyed it, while it ran. Bought it used in 2004 (7 yrs old) with 70k miles. Around 85K alternator went out. 90k fuel pump out. 100k seat adjust handles broke and started having electrical problems with stereo. Randomly switches sound from speaker to speaker, they never work at the same time anymore. Have had to rebuild transmission, 2 alternators, 3 batteries (in 5 years) brake rotors, rear window wiper stopped working, starter, cargo net posts broke. Very much a plastic interior that breaks when you touch it. However the exterior is solid, I have hit a vehicle and only got a dent while other person had to buy a new front end clip.

Worst vehicle I have ever owned...I have put six batteries and three alternators in the truck and yet GM says there is no electrical problems with these trucks. The brakes failed and I ran into a sidewalk. The push- button 4WD had to be replaced. The heating system had to be fixed and now the AC does not get cold, despite a recent coolent recharging. Oh, and there have been countless recalls on top of these expensive repairs. This the last GM product I will ever own.

Very happy. Reliable, with very few problems. Transmission had a problem within first 2 years, but was under warranty. Tires lasted over 53,000 miles. Rear window washer feeder line has been a pain... keeps coming loose. Starting to hear a few annoying rattles inside cabin, coming from doors. Love the 4.3 L engine, had it in previous GMC Jimmy. Overall, it met my needs just fine.

This was my first car and it's in the shop right now for about the 7th time in a year. in the past 3 months I have had to have it towed 4 times. I have put over 2 grand into it with repairs. It goes through gas like nothing, brakes failed on me twice, rear windshield wiper doesn't work anymore, power seats and locks don't work anymore. I will never own another blazer. Sure it was great in the snow and looks decent but everything else is pretty terrible. I would not recommend this as a daily driver...maybe just for someone to use in the snow and that's it.

If you enjoy going to the repair shop, and being without your car for extended periods, this is the car for you. I treated my Blazer with kid gloves and performed regular maintenance. But it always broke down. Major repairs included the transmission, suspension, alternator, exhaust, and more. To add insult to injury, I had purchased an extended warranty. The only "guarantee" was that Chevy service would hassle you every time you brought it in and make you wait weeks at a time. Gas tank is far too small for such as guzzler, and the stereo broke three times to boot. Fun to drive, but it was in the shop so often, I'm not sure.

With about 32000+ miles the fuel pump went out, cost to repair over 900.00, break job on front 300.00 and I believe every seal and gasket has been replaced. The car was back in the shop 2 weeks ago two more leaky gaskets and a cracked serptine belt cost 261.00. Drove the Blazer for one-year and sold it thinking to upgrade, but probably let it go too cheap. The 4.3 V6 was a powerful engine, the LT trim was awesome, but I ran into drivetrain problems and it began to leak out of the rear main seal at around 115k, then it started leaking anti-freeze from the head gaskets. Also had to replace a leaky CV axle, then just started leaking again from the front differential. Also a vacuum line disconnected and the electronic 4x4 wouldn't engage. The AC had some problems too. Overall this was a good car, but with over 100k I wasn't ready to accept the maintenance costs and got sick of leaking fluids.

Blazer has been a nice dependable car for last 5 yrs. Would buy another Chevy but looking at other makes at this time. Gas mileage is not the greatest but a prt of being an SUV owner. Do not like hump in front passenger seat on floor. Makes long drives uncomfortable. Minor problems included handles to recline seats both broke, upholstery not holding up well for driver seat(has been replaced), paint on windshield wipers has peeled off. OVerall good vehicle and was happy with purchase.

I bought the car 3 years old and loved the look and roominess of the car. After about 5 years the car had many repairs. I now have 175,000 miles on it but it cost me to keep it running. Now am thinking about leasing a car so I can drive a new car and not worry about repairs. The check engine light has been on for years regardless of what I do to repair the car. Was a major pain trying to pass the Ohio E-Check inspection with it on permanently. Paid $200 to replace the light when it burned out. Ridiculous! Love the storage space and look but not the maintenance.

I've been fairly happy with my Blazer that I bought used two and a half years ago until this year (I'm approaching 100,000 miles). It's the perfect size for my needs and does really well in snow and ice. This year, however, I've needed many minor repairs that have started to add up including the water pump, gas lines and alternator. The fuel pump went out the day after I bought it, so that was under the 1 year warranty I bought, luckily. Now I'm thinking I want to sell it before anything major happens while it's still worth something.

At 85k, I had a lower rod bearing come apart and ruined the motor. Rebuilt Delco motor installed costs 5k. At 80k, manifold gaskets had to be replaced since the so called 150000 mile coolant failed. This repair was about 1200 bucks. Many other failures that required lots of out-of-pocket expenses and time in the shop. Once the rebuilt motor is installed, it's history.

I sent my Blazer to the shop more times that I can count - from the spark plug wires burning out, the fuel injectors clogging up (protective coating at the factory was not removed), the fuel gauge not working, and the transmission having serious issues. In the last few years, the Blazer sat in my garage while I drove my Honda – I just did not trust the Blazer anymore after being left stranded by it too many times. Thankfully, I just traded it in over the weekend for a Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner. I can finally trust a truck. My advice: Do not buy a Chevy. Sure, they're like a rock... and Rocks don't move much, last I checked.

I really like my truck, but I've spent a ton of money to repair every little thing from the alternator to the transmission. In two years, I've spent over $5,000 making various repairs. My mechanic is surprised that I put so much into a car known for its issues, but I love my truck. The cost would have been more money had I not gotten the extended warranty when I first bought the car. I will say that when it's not in the shop, this truck has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it. This is a gas guzzler. I've averaged 13-15 MPG, but's that's the price you pay for owning an SUV.

Had nothing but problems almost from day one. Power steering leaked, oil leaked, cooling system leaked and always rattled going down the highway. I liked the interior and they way it was laid out but there was always something going wrong engine wise. Replaced alternator, power steering pump and it loved to chew thru serpentine belts. If it didn't break the belt, it squeeled so loud you had to replace it or wear ear plugs while driving. Had ball joints replaced and had problems with the brake light not working. Ended up being a switch near the floor board that had to be taken apart about every month and cleaned out then brake lights worked again. Not enough pwr to tow anything big.

I've owned this Blazer since it waS new. About to turn over 100k miles. Just put on the 3rd set of tires. Not a lot of problems for a vehicle that old, but here is a list of problems I've had: Excessive paint chips since it was new, entire car repainted by dealer. 4WD is currently intermittent due to a vacuum problem. Leaking coolant. Replaced fuel sender. Hazard/brakelight/turn signal switch bad, intermittent brake lights. Replaced 3 speakers. Body molding coming off. Hoses to oil filter leaking. Climate control diverter is messed up, delayed in switching from floor to defrost, etc. probably due to vacuum leak. Never a MAJOR problem though.....

I was concerned when purchasing because of the Consumer Reports below average reliability rating but the price was right so we went for it. Well five years later I'm happy to report that not one thing has gone wrong with my Blazer (other than the normal stuff brakes, battery, tires etc.) I change the oil every 3k miles and follow the suggested maintenance.
