1997 2dr blazer
my experinece has been very good exept wjen i got stuck in a 5 ft snow drift and had to be towed out be a ford 150 therea nothing in the world that could compare to the driving of my blazer.
Selling my 97' Blazer after 2 years
This was a good vehicle. I bought it with 162K miles and it now has 180k miles. It was very reliable and didn't leave me stranded. The motor is still powerful after 180K miles, but it could use new suspension parts.
97 blazer
This vehicle has 145000 miles on it and is still very reliable and everything works.
Spending a lot of time in the shop
I really like my truck, but I've spent a ton of money to repair every little thing from the alternator to the transmission. In two years, I've spent over $5,000 making various repairs. My mechanic is surprised that I put so much into a car known for its issues, but I love my truck. The cost would have been more money had I not gotten the extended warranty when I first bought the car. I will say that when it's not in the shop, this truck has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it. This is a gas guzzler. I've averaged 13-15 MPG, but's that's the price you pay for owning an SUV.
not that bad
We have had a lot of little things go wrong with the Blazer, but overall we have been pleased. The side mirrors shake a lot on the highway. The fuel consumption is heavy. It is a fun ride though.
Bad tranny
i like this vehicle besides the fact that the tranny in it stinks. i've heard alot of bad things about Blazer trannies and now I can relate as my tranny went out last month. Otherwise a nice SUV. Plenty of power and a comfortable ride overall.
It'll get me by for a while.
I bought it because it was cheap and I needed a little work truck/commuter. The tranny has been replaced, the AC has a leak but works if charged, the gas guage doesn't work so I have to keep an eye on mileage (270 miles per tank on average 15-16 MPG in town) The driver door spring broke off but the door still works. The ball joints need to be replaced, and the engine leaks oil pretty bad. Other than that the engine runs strong (especially after injector cleaner added to fuel). Overall, I don't mind my little beater, but it is definitely a short term solution.
Not a bad car
I think that my car is very reliable. It has had its problems like replacing the tranny. After I bought the vehicle the check engine light came on and has been on ever since. I have had a misfire in the engine and after replacing the spark plug wires and the distributer cap it has run smoothly. The light is still on. I like the driver's seat options. I am a massage therapist and the option for posture is great. I think that it has helped me to be more aware of how I drive. The seats fold down enabling me to move a lot of my junk from place to place. I had to move from Mason City, IA. to Forest City, Ia. and I did it in 3 trips. So the space inside is roomy. I love my car!
The Blazer from hell
After 10000 miles had to replace the ball joints and the brakes. drivers door as rattled since day one: can not be repaired. At 30000 miles the pinion seal gasket leaked and was replaced only to have the rear pinion bearing go 30000 miles later. Windshield wiper modular board broke at 40K
Old faithful
While I certainly have many gripes, it has been a very reliable vehicle. I bought it new and it now has 162,xxx miles. It's never quit on me! I drive it in all conditions including plenty of off-road and snow. Outside of the typical repairs for this many miles (fuel pump, ball joints, alternator) and routine maintenance, I've had only a couple issues, but none major and it always starts. I keep expecting more problems but they haven't come yet. I have felt a few hard shifts from the tranny, but considering the too-tall gearing I'm amazed it got this far. Gas mileage is ok for a V6 SUV - avg about 20 combined.
Good Ol' Girl
I bought this Blazer from someone who wanted absolutely nothing to do with it anymore for stupid reasons. I got it cheap, and stuck about 2000 dollars more into it with new fluids of every sort, water pump, floor mats, 4WD vaccuum, and some other things. Mostly things went wrong because it litterally sat a whole year without moving. Since I have had no problems. She was a little sluggish at first, understandable, but has since really picked up. It's been a pleasure to own and drive! I also got 24 miles per gallon highway, but it was twisty, hilly roads that I took to visit family, so I thought that was pretty good.
OWNER OF SEVERAL BLAZERS
PERFORMANCE,QUALITY, MECHANICAL,INTERIOR,EXTERIOR AND STYLE ARE EXCELLENT, ONLY FLAW IS LOW MILAGE OF FUEL CONSUMPTION OF THE 6 CY.
My review
Great vehicle til 55,000 miles at which time things broke one after another. Luckily, most were warranty items. I got stuck for the throttle body ($800). Already has had two brake jobs & 2 batteries. My buddies Jeep Cherokee will run circles around my Blazer with better handling & higher ground clearance. The Blazer was the best buy for the $ though & luckily I have a fantastic dealer which was 95% of the reason I purchased the vehicle. Turnaround on repairs is same day 90% of the time. Must get an extended warranty when purchased new. Despite the complaints, it was still the best buy for my $ in 1997, & I'd buy another today unless I'm towing.
1997 4wd 4dr
I love my Blazer. My family didn't want me to have a truck so I got a Blazer. It doesn't want to always start because I live in northern Minnesota with -30 degree weather on some days. I've had to do some work on it because it has 160,000 miles but it's working great.
163000 and still going strong!
When I bought this Blazer I was getting rid of my 2001 Turbo Jetta and getting something cheaper to fix. However I have put 10000 miles on the truck and have only had to replace the serpentine belt. Had a transmission shutter but realized engine misfire was the problem. I deliver pizzas so the 4WD comes in handy were I live. However better gas mileage would be nice.
LIke this vehicle alot
bought this vehicle used,36000miles,the dealer went right through it.It has 92000 miles on it now with minimal maintence. Realy like this truck very much.very dependable for me.
First 3 years
Bought a new, fully equipped Blazer. First 3 years numerous mechanical, electrical failures: transmission, alternator, A/C, wiper motor, battery, driver's window. Abraham Motors, in Miami, part of Republic Industries, now owned by Maroone, would not honor warranty for transmission failure at 16000 miles. Last two years, it is running well. Probably my last Chevy.
Bye-bye, Chev! Never again...
Afvter the amount of issues with this vehicle - and past GM's - I will NEVER purchase another General Motors product. Right now I am replacing my third water pump. I have spent enough money at dealerships to have purchased this vehicle twice now. I have had seven things blow in the last 6 months - rear window wiper motor, water pump, ignition module, idler arm, vacuum heater, transmission, mirror console - and three oil leaks from somewhere. Always changed oil to reccomendations and always dealer serviced once per year.
Upset Bazer Owner
My truck only has 71,657 miles. My upper and lower ball joints went bad and my engine went bad. I ended up spending 5,217.00 just to get it running again.
too much maintenance
In 5 years have put in over $3000.00 worth of repairs. Transmission rebuilt at 60K miles and again at 93K miles. Many problems with U-joints, upper and lower ball joints, and idler arms. Engine makes a high-pitched squeal when idle and when stopped. No passenger side air-bag.
New life for my 1957 GMC half ton pick up.
This suv had 306,000 miles on it. It idles rough and the 4 wheel drive isn’t working. I will rebuild the engine and fix the other issues. My old truck will have a new drive train. The truck ran very well for the 100 miles home.

I LOVE my 97 Blazer LS 4 door! 25 Y/O, 150k miles.
I LOVE my 97 Blazer! 25 Y/O, 150k miles and STILL going strong! I bought this for $4k back on 7-1-2011 with 112k miles. I don't put many miles on it but have taken 1500 mile trips while towing a 16' boat or 14' camper with no issues. I have had it 11 years. It has only needed a fuel pump, distributor, brakes, ignition work, and tires. Everything except windshwasher pump and rear wiper still works perfectly. AND, my blazer has ABSOLUTELY NO RUST, NONE! I'm the 2nd owner and it has always been garaged. The 4×4 works great still and always has. All electric doors, Seat, Windows, etc.. STILL work. The interior could be better designed but mine is in great shape still. What can I say, I've had VERY good luck with this Blazer. Ii is also fun to drive and handles well. Grips the road great with plenty power. I have found it handles snow EXCEPTIONALLY WELL, especially in 4 wheel drive. I will keep it till it dies. I STILL love it even after 11 years! Nothing but GOOD things to say about my 97 Chevy Blazer! I wish I could attach a photo to show just how nice my 25 Y/O rig looks. It looks maybe 10 Y/O, NOT 25!! I would DEFINITELY recommend a 97 Blazer. I would buy another in a minute (IF I can find one in as GOOD a shape as this one!), and just may when this does die. Chevy Blazer ALL THE WAY!

Don't Buy It!!!!
This vehicle was the fist chevy I have every owned and it will be the last. I had it for 1 year and got rid of it as soon as I could. I have never had so many problems.
Heart beat of American CRAP
This car is a prime example of American CRAP. It is unreliable. After so many miles in this car, one thing after the other starts to break down. This car wont go the distance. From the transmission, belts you name it, it will break! This car had so many RECALLS. Just like all the other American cars CRAP. Save your money and stress dont belive the lies, go foriegn! Please if you want us to buy American put some heart into your products, at least try to make your products last more than 20,000 miles!
honest opinion
Costly maintenance. Break does not work well. Don't be decieved by the appearance.
Never own another Blazer
I bought my Blazer used, with only 34,000 miles on it. I have had nothing but trouble with it from the very start. At 75,000 miles, my transmission went out,Cost to replace $1,600. My wipers front and rear quit working.Cost to fix $300.00. The front wipers quit working during a storm, almost causeing an accident, as I could not see. Most recently, my catoletic converter went out, causing me to be stranded on the turnpike with a small child in the dark. Cost $800.00. I have replace the front wheel bearings every year since I've owned the Blazer. My A/C quit working, as the compressor has a leak. Cost$600.00 to repair. 4-sale 4 what ever I can get out of it.
