Another leaking cadillac
Have owned 3 Cadillacs; all had fluid leaks. '92 needed new transmission and water pump before 40,000 miles. 97 needed water pump at 45k miles and had 3 batteries. Then it started to stall but dealer couldn't find anything wrong. A/C came out of defrost vents at times. With cost of car, it should not be a problem. With supposed quality, a much longer warranty should be given.
Decent Car-"Service Engine Soon"
A really nice car even though it does not leave you feeling warm and fuzzy with the "service engine soon" light on, all of the time. I would not buy this car new but as a used vehicle, not bad. Tremendous highway vehicle. Great around town for a big car. Headlight problems after car wash ( what about the rain?). I like it but this car needs kid glove treatment to last. Not a car to throw into corners at 100 mph. Actually mine says "fuel cutoff" at 112 mph. Oh well, so much for the open highway. I would buy another one.
Junk
I would never by a Cadillac again. I've replaced the motor due to head bolts stripped out of motor. They make an 800 dollar kit to fix the problem but it did not work due to already being done the wrong way. If I were you stay away from 96 to 2000 or you will have a bill of 3500 dollars like i did. If you're thinking about buying one I have this to say to you. It's the biggest pile of junk there is and if I were gm i would be ashamed of putting my name on it.
'97 DeVille
So far this has been a wonderful car. The fit & finish is very good. It's a fun to drive car. The ride is very good for a 11 year old luxury car. About the only option this car lacks, is a moonroof. Everything on this car works. I've heard a lot of bad things about the Northstar engine. I find it an excellent powertrain. If you keep it from getting overheated, it should last almost forever.
Needs improvement
Cadillac has a long way to go to be considered in the same class as European automobiles. The soft ride and mediocre handling, although improved, do not bode well for Cadillac to seriously compete with other luxury marques. Dealers do not seem very helpful, which is unfortunate, since I've spent quite a bit of time there.
