The 3D row seats , in addition to being tight , are very hard to get to. Folding the 2nd Seat does not a Allow a flat surface. The seats lean up against the front seats at an angle and the seat cushions are to thick anyway which adds to the problem. The front seat controls are in a separate panel below the side of the seat itself. When getting in and out of the car you drag across the panel and eventually it separates . This requires a replacement as the panel is snapped into the side of the seats with plastic Pins. . The last thing is the stability of the car at highway speeds. It could be the run flat tires, but the car wanders. If you don’t get a 3rd seat you can have a donut spare allowing for a choice of brands. Run flats are not guaranteed. We ordered our 2015 loaded. It only has 38000 miles. We traded a Volvo XC 90 which was more user friendly with utility and good driver. We would have gotten another one but one with all the extras but finding one was a problem. Hope this helps. New Comments December 2020. Since my last comments, I have noted some other problems with the car. Specifically more with the interior. Most of the interior panels etc: are plastic. The SUV rear hatch is in two parts. The lower pulls out and the upper rises. The lower is to provide a shelf for loading the car. Over time it begins to make a lot of noise. It is caused by the plastic cover moving against the lower shelf. There is a sliding piece of plastic that moves and slides as the shelf is lowered. Now however while driving it starts to rub against the second piece, making the noise. I believe it is there to fill in the gap when the shelf is lowered. It almost seems like the part may be warped. The car is 6 years old and has 41000 miles on it. We keep it in a garage. We will probably be trading it in the next 6 months. We bought an extended warranty for 6 years. I will not get another BMW because I feel the interior of the car is really cheap. Also from a styling stand point the front looks ugly, The kidney grill has gone to a steroid mouth. The extended warranty is a joke, if you get one read it carefully. It does not cover interior items even if it is defective. I will I probably will go back to Volvo.

Great car. 120k and on third set of tires 2nd set of brakes and routine maintenance. Really nothing more than that at this stage.

LOVE the LOOK - HATE the Maintenance

By far the best looking car I have owned! Beautiful and fun to drive. HOWEVER, the run flat tires are absolutely a SCAM! BMW wont replace just one tire you have to replace two at a time or it will not sound or drive as it should. Run flats are not as good as normal tires. Buy your cheap roadside service$7 a month extra with your auto insurance; and if you have a flat (which I never have) call roadside service and get it changed. Run flat tires are $425 per tire. So if you have a screw or nail in your tire, you cannot patch runflat tires, you have to replace them. I have had 3 screws in my tires in 2 yrs!! Ridiculous! If you need a brake job on a BMW you have to replace rotors and breaks both, not just brakes. Its about $2-2500!!! So really if you want to drive a BMW be ready to pass out cash on the Maintenance.

Interior Problems

Special Ordered this car in 2015. It is a “loaded” car including a 3rd seat.. Currently it has 42,000 on it. The interior problem began with the seat adjustment panel locate on the driver’s side along the lower left side of the seat. The panel started to pull away from the seat leaving a gap between it an the side of the seat. The dealer ordered a new part, but could not get it to mate up. I accepted that but was not happy. The car has “ventilation” seats which may have caused this as they are more pliable sides on the seat. Getting in and out of the car makes your “bottom” drag over the panel which eventually pulls it away. The second problem is a constant “squeaking” noise from the inside at the rear area. It seems to come from the places that the panels or bottom of the baggage area. My feeling is that the panels just do not fit properly . They obviously Match the color of the seats and carpets, but seem to be made of plastic joined at various points. Given the cost of the car $70,000, and it is a BMW I would have expected better interior parts. I have been looking for a new X5 but they all have the same seat controls panel, I don’t know if they have improved the contact areas for the inside panels. As noted it may be the ventilated seats give more. BMW seems to not care about reporting problems or taking input from owners. The car had a 4 year warranty and I bought an extra 2 years, check carefully on what’s covered. Also don’t buy “dent” protection. If there is even of a “pin” size bit of broken paint showing it is not covered. Lastly the “run flat” tires make the ride and handling not up to an ultimate Driving machine.

When I first bought this car I thought that it would be a great car. Once I took delivery of the car everything seemed great and perfect. Everything was great the driving the ac. Everything seemed great until exactly a week of driving it that morning I wanted to get into the car but it wouldn't open, so I called roadside assistance they sent a flatbed truck who then jump started the car so then I drove it to the dealership. I gave the dealership the car they told me they were going to fix it after four days they told me to come pick it up when I went to pick it up they told me that there was something wrong with the battery drainage and when I got into the car it said battery failure so I gave it back to them. Then it took them five days to fix it again and every time I called them they would ignore me then it took along time to get it fixed and it didn't get fixed so I gave it back to the dealer which was very hard to give it back to them because they just wanted the money to stay with them. The car turned out to be a lemon and then I felt good that I returned it because if I kept it I would've been keep taking it to them over and over. I wonder how much the "repairs" costed if they weren't covered under the warranty. This car gave a terrible review of BMW and I think they should check their cars better at the factory.
