Beware doesn't fully charge

I have had my Er, Ron Q8 for only about two months now. Even though when I charge it, it says 100% on the battery. The mileage is only 225 miles instead of the advertise 285 miles. This happened rather quickly. All of a sudden the amount of miles on a full charger was dramatically less. I brought the car into Audi two times and both times they're telling me nothing is wrong with the car. However, I bought a car that was supposed to have 285 mile range on a full charge and now on a full charge. I'm only getting 225 miles. They told me I should stop driving with the air-conditioning on and the heat on That's ridiculous. The most upsetting part is that Audi has completely been unhelpful in managing this issue.

Had the car 2 months and never once have I seen no more than 210-224 range when fully charged! Which is a HUGE DIFFERENCE from advertised! And that’s driving with everything off! Basically I was ripped off!

The new 2024 q8 etron drives like it has sand bags in the trunk. In my opinion it’s not fun to drive and lacks the agility and fun factor of a BMW. It does drive smoothly in tranquil silence with no rattles even over bumps thanks to its air suspension. Would I lease it again…. no! Would I get another electric….probably not. My recommendation is to stay away from electric vehicles if you have a long commute like me. Note I was pretty impressed when the dealer mentioned unlimited 2 years of free charging at electrify America charging stations nationwide. But keep in mind that the Electrify America network is very limited and small compared to Tesla. And so there may not be any chargers in your area that are convenient.. There are usually 4 chargers per location and often times (from my experience) 1 or more of the Electrify America chargers are not functioning. There are usually other people waiting to charge so it can be frustrating waiting to use the charger (I waited once 40 minutes) and then waiting an additional 30-40 minutes for your vehicle to fill up. Did I also mention that the etron insurance costs hundreds more than what a 2023 gas powered Mercedes GLE costs to insure. I wish someone would have mentioned that in the reviews instead of whimpering about the lousy range they are getting. Although I thought going electric was going to save me money, realistically I’m not saving a dime since insurance is more, youll need to install a home charger at a cost of $1500 plus and electric vehicles are known to wear out tires faster than their gas counterpart because the vehicle is heavier That said let me explain why I gave the q8 etron one stars. For me the worst part of this vehicle is the infotainment system, cameras and overall MMI experience falls short of expectations at this price point and is a huge disappointment. Maybe this system was ground breaking 5 years ago its a relic by todays standards. It’s nowhere near as good or nice as a Mercedes gle or BMW x5/ix even a Hyundai Palisade Or Kia telluride has better and more tech. My issues with the 2024 q8 etron premium plus 1) front and rear backup cameras are acceptable but lousy. The small screen and fish eye lens makes everything you see in the camera look extremely small and stretched/distorted. Maybe a bigger screen would help. In addition the camera image is mediocre resolution and dark, especially at night. So you may be thinking just brighten the screen, right? Wrong, there is no way to brighten only the camera screen. Instead you need to increase the MMI infotainment brightness, but ramping up the brightness makes the navigation screen way too bright at night. Would also be nice if the cameras retracted inside the vehicle so they stay clean. 2) Another issue with the infotainment screen is its location below the sight line (speedometer level). It’s awkward and unnatural viewing the navigation screen while driving, since you’re looking down. Audi should have placed the screen at the same height as the speedometer. Instead the designers placed the air vents at the top edge of the dash with the screen below. That makes no sense since most people don’t want the vent air blowing directly in their face. 3) cross traffic alert leaves much to be desired. It doesn’t always alert you to an oncoming car or pedestrians until the object is close. Sometimes it only flashes a warning on screen without beeping. As far as I know there is no way to adjust the sensitivity. 4) Blind spot mirrors are confusing since the blind spot indicator is on the mirror housing not the mirror itself like 99% of other vehicles. The blind spot light is also not that bright even at the brightest setting. (The q5 blind spots lights are so much better, brighter and more noticeable). Also on the mirror housing facing the driver is a small square indicator that blinks every time you activate the turn signal. (This light can only be seen by the driver). It’s easy to confuse this blinking light with the blind spot indicator since they are both an amber color. I covered this light with a small piece of black electric tape because it was just so annoying. There is also no blind spot beeping feature as is common on many vehicles today. 5) Electric range is not what it seems. They claim 285 miles per charge but turn on the ac or heat to a high setting and that number will go down drastically. Range will suffer in cold weather too. Since Audi recommends not charging more than 80% you’ll realistically get under 200 miles per charge. Note: all electric vehicles have this same issue. Car companies need to be more honest about real life range. It’s not realistic to drive without the air conditioning or heat. 6) the dashboard has lots of shiny black plastic trim that looks ugly and cheap, it attracts finger prints/dust and reflects the sun in your eyes while driving. 5) Audi should have designed physical climate control buttons. The climate touch screen is distracting to use while driving and reminds me of the horrible touch climate control screen in my previous car, a Range Rover Sport. Maybe Audi should do away with the silly touch climate control nonsense and just give us some manual controls and use the savings to source a better quality reverse camera. Overall, my recommendation is to test drive the vehicle and if you can live with the tech deficiencies then you’ve found the right vehicle. Unless you love the brand there are some better options out there with better technology. I think a BMW ix or Mercedes GLE hybrid would have been a better option.

Typical Audi luxury with all the bells and whistles. Comfortable quiet ride (as expected). However, the battery is a POS. At delivery, 100% charge yielded 300 miles. Then tuned down to 80% max charge as recommended to extend battery life. 1 month later, long road trip at 100% yielded 270. Have the car 6 months now and 80% gets circa 160 with 100% barely scratching 200. Good thing it’s for local runs as longer trips build anxiety. Fortunately, the car is leased and will be returned. There’ll be a lot of cheap 2024 Q8 Etrons for sale in 3 years.

Understated Luxury in an EV

The Audi has been a great choice in converting to an electric vehicle and has made the switch an easy one. Unlike the Kia, Hyundai or Tesla, it truly offers a luxury feel, wireless CarPlay, solid driving and all the other perks of a modern EV!
