The 2025 Audi A6 E-tron is the carmaker's latest all-electric vehicle, joining the larger and more expensive S E-tron GT as the only electric cars in Audi's fleet. It's similar in size to the outgoing gas-powered A6 midsize luxury sedan, but it opts for a sporty rear hatch instead of a traditional trunk. The A6 E-tron is offered in either single- or dual-motor configurations, with the former making it Audi's first rear-wheel-drive sedan in nearly a century. In a time when SUVs dominate the EV world, it's refreshing to have a sportier sedan alternative.

The A6 E-tron is one of the few electric vehicles with an EPA range estimate north of 350 miles, and one of the fewer still that can reach nearly 400 miles when equipped properly. The Ultra package available for the Premium trim fits the A6 E-tron with smaller wheels and tires, which help it go farther on a charge. Combined with the sedan's super sleek profile and large battery pack, the Ultra is EPA-rated to travel 392 miles before you need to recharge. And with a lofty maximum charging capacity of 270 kW, you'll be back on the road quicker than most EVs. The A6 E-tron appears to be well suited for road trip duty.
Competitors to consider
The 2025 Audi A6 E-tron faces its familiar foes, even in the fledgling midsize luxury EV sedan class. The similarly priced BMW i5 has only been around for a year, while the more expensive Mercedes-Benz EQE debuted in 2023. In typical fashion for these two automakers, the BMW gains an edge in performance, while the Benz prioritizes luxury. The Audi typically splits the difference, and in this case, the A6 E-tron pulls ahead with considerably more range.
2025 Audi A6 Sportback e-tron trim level differences
The 2025 Audi A6 Sportback E-tron is a new all-electric sedan/hatchback that is available in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. Within these models, you can choose between single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or dual-motor all-wheel-drive (Quattro). Both configurations draw power from a battery pack with 94.4 kWh of usable capacity, with the RWD version producing 362 horsepower (increases to 375 hp for brief spurts in launch control mode). The Quattro increases output to 422 hp (temporarily boosting to 456 hp in launch mode).
Which A6 Sportback e-tron trim does Edmunds recommend?
We suggest checking out the midrange Premium Plus trim as it adds a healthy number of luxury, safety and tech features for a reasonable price increase over the base model. Most drivers will find the rear-wheel-drive A6 E-tron plenty capable, while those seeking quicker acceleration or who live in regions with snowy winters should consider adding the Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
2025 Audi A6 Sportback e-tron Premium Plus 4dr Hatchback AWD (electric DD)
I'll start by saying I'm not the typical EV buyer. This is my commuter / errand vehicle and I own a 3/4 ton diesel truck for work / travel / play. I drove a number of electrics over a 6 month period and just couldn't find one I liked due to either the range, the build quality / material issues, etc... I looked at both new and used to get a sense of how they aged and during that time … I had never even looked at an Audi prior to getting in the A6. What I love about the A6 is the range and quality of the exterior / interior. Instead of buying a car from a technology company, you are buying a vehicle from a car company that has some tested technology. The range was really attractive beating out some of the other German competition and the quality of the car makes the American rival look terrible. And the price that was settled on was so far below the competition, I actually had to call a friend to see what I was missing.
I've driven it for over 2 months and it's a joy to get in and take for a ride. I go through about a charge a week (300 miles) and I've only seen my bill go up $40, but I do have the timer set to only charge off peak and do get to charge at work for 3 1/2 hrs for free. The sound system in this car is incredible, and the comfort is fantastic. The car is extremely quiet inside going down the road very little road noise and the power is fantastic for a 4-door sedan. It's actually easy to speed in given how little feedback you get in noise. The steering is extremely responsive and easy. I do like my truck and if I'm taking a long trip, I would take it, but this is an entirely refined driving experience that I would gladly do again and the dealership that I bought from was actually the best dealership experience I've ever had. Signing the paperwork took less than 10 minutes. Audi gets it right with their customers and this car has been fantastic!
