2027 Audi A6 Sportback e-tron

The Audi A6 Sportback E-tron's name might be a mouthful — especially with Quattro tacked on for the all-wheel-drive model — but what it all means is that this is a midsize electric luxury car. A fastback roofline and rear hatch earn it the Sportback moniker. It has less power but a bigger back seat, a lower price tag, longer range and wider appeal than Audi's S E-tron GT. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive A6 Sportback E-tron boasts a maximum range of nearly 400 miles, and its 800-volt architecture allows it to charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 21 minutes.

The A6 Sportback E-tron's rivals originate from the same brands that supply the gas-burning A6's competition. The BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan (there's also an SUV of the same name) are priced similarly, while the Lexus ES is newly electrified for 2026 and is substantially more affordable. With range figures topping out around 300 miles, though, none can touch the Audi's distance-to-empty.  

Quattro all-wheel drive is central to Audi's brand identity, but powering all four wheels takes more energy — a potential downside in an EV. For maximum range, the A6 Sportback E-tron is available with a single motor powering the rear wheels, giving it an EPA-estimated range of 348 miles. With smaller, lighter wheels, the optional Ultra package stretches range to 395 miles. That's compared to 327 miles and 360 miles, respectively, for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model without and with the Ultra package.
