Just traded in my very yellow Mazdaspeed Protege for a base A-3. After a week I am pretty impressed with the car's performance and refinement. The car feels much quicker than the Mazda and vastly improved driveability. It is a little more like a wagon than a hot hatchback. I would probably wait for the VW GTI if I were more patient. Would have preferred the sport package +Bose radio but I couldn't seem to find one equipped that way without buying the Skyroof. The base radio and interior are OK but not as sporty unique as the Mazdaspeed Protege. The dealer was fairly uninformed about MP3, Satellite Radio and this new model in general. Still for $25K, a great buy!

We picked up our A3 last weekend and haven't stopped driving since!!! We went with the base model, No leather, 6 Speed. The only thing we wished we would of got is navigation, but we solved that with a dash mounted Tom Tom GPS unit.

The Audi A3 combines all of the fun-to-drive characteristics of the Audi TT and the VW Golf GTI (with which it shares a platform), with an elegant design and a real backseat that adults can use.

The car is absolutely amazing. For an all around do it all vehicle Audi hit the nail on the head. I love the design and the interior layout. I love the sportiness of the suspension and how the car handles every type of road thrown at it. I hate that I have taken the car in for two electrical problems already. First, was the coolant temperature sensor crapped out on me. Audi did order the part and had it in within a week though. Secondly my heated seats went out and come to find out it was just a plug issue. The 2.0T is capable, but needs more. A $600 chip increases to 250 HP and 300 lbs of torque. Cargo could be a little better, but any more and it would be an SUV. Overall it is a great car!

After three trips to the dealership, test drives of the manual, DSG, Base, Sport and Premium packages, I came away with a base model with 6-Speed MT and Open Sky. In the end, the base model was such a great value, I couldn't justify spending thousands more for a couple more bells and whistles. This was after driving the Saab 9-2X (they would have had to pay me to buy that one) and Volvo S40 (good value and affordable option pkgs, but not even close on the "wow" and driving fronts). If you are looking for something in the $25-30K range, you HAVE to at least drive this car. If they don't have the exact one you want, you can order it from the factory through the dealership like I did.
