You might check the main wire harness where it goes from the top of the engine left side ( right as you look at itfrom under the hood). the harness sort of goes under neath the area of the left side intake manifold and when the wire get brittle you can rev the engine and as it moves it on the mounts can cause the engine to die out or even ... Anyone familiar with this? We bought this car for my daughter and it did this a few times while parked (Once at the dealership! Lucky for us because they are backing there commitment to fix or take the car back) but this time it happened while she was driving. Had just got off the interstate (1 1/2 hour drive) and down the road about 3 miles and it died while going ... Read More
I bought my 2004 Axiom (2WD) when it had about 40K. Now, it has 63K, and I want to change the transmission fluid. From previous discussion, it seems that it is safer to do transmission fluid drain, not transmission flush. So, today I visited Midas and they said that they need "Genuine Isuzu Transmission fluid." I checked online, but I did not find any such fluid. Will a regular ATF Dextron ... Read More
I have a 2004 Isuzu Axiom with 65K miles that has frequent hesitations while I just cruzing down the road, mostly in the 50 -60 MPH range. Slight but very noticable. Any ideas out there would be very welcomed.
Hi Dautlas: Sorry to hear about your problem with your 04 Axiom. Based on your description, it sounds like what you are actually talking about is the Anti-theft and Keyless Entry Controller Unit, which as you mention is not a standard item, but an optional accessory. In the Axiom Workshop Manual I bought on Ebay, it is detailed in Chapter 8H-14 on page 1964 of 2100, where it is shown as ... Read More
I hope that someone can help me here as my isuzu dealership cannot. My ignition immobilizer sometimes reads my key and sometimes it does not. I want to remove this immobilizer before I get stranded away from home. I own a 2004 Axiom with lots of miles. The dealership suggest that the immobilizer brain should be replaced. This is a large expense for what I call an old car. I just ... Read More

Friends: I have been reading postings about people having problems where the rear traction control bar rusts and falls off, (and the frame is rusted beyond repair), and the vehicle spins out of control when that happens. This happens at as little as 43K miles. While this has not happened to my 02 Axiom yet, I am concerned that this is an extremely important safety issue. There is a DEFINITE pattern of ... Read More
My 2004 Isuzu Axiom 2WD (41000 mi.); started to make noise just before the car stops (last 20-25 ft.) The noise is coming from the back, so I thought my rear breaks needed to be replaced. Then, however, I decided stopping and putting transmission into neutral, and the noise dissapeared (while I was depressing brake). So my brakes are probably fine. Next I replaced the oil in the rear axle, but ... Read More
2004 Isuzu Axiom engine immobilizer transponder key system. I would like to disconnect this system so I can easily install a remote start system. Does anyone know of any electrical diagrams for the Axiom? Also I would like to install a switch that would bypass the TOD system and keep the front axle engaged. Thanks !
Oil gets pretty dark pretty quick in normal use, so I don't know if you can tell much of anything about it just by looking at it. The Dark Oil Myth. It's supposed to hold "dirt" in suspension. You may want to get an oil analysis sometime and see what the lab says about your oil and engine. They cost around $20.
Purchased the car in Sept for $5,400 It is not 4 Wheel Drive, I prefer that for Califonia Hwys Milage was 70,000 I have since put 10,000 miles on the car. What I notice is that when the car is cold in the morning, it revs past 1300 RPM and then eventually after 2 min, settles below 750 RPM after it warms up. The noise is a lot otherwise really no ... I made the ultimate stupid mistake today when jumpstarting my 02 Isuzu Axiom. For a brief second or two, I hooked up the jumper cable to the battery BACKWARDS. I have jumped hundreds of cars in my life and never done this, but I did it today, in haste. There was a spark. I quickly removed the cables. We jumped the car and I got it going, but the MID is ... Maybe the rest of you will think I am crazy, but I just purchased a 2004 Axiom with 73K miles. I have a 1999 Vehicross and a 1999 Amigo. I live in the high mountains of Colorado at 10,300 feet. The winters are brutal. My two Isuzu's have been completely reliable and real tanks in the deep snow and sometimes mud. We needed a 4door family 4X4 with reasonable gas mileage ... Read More

Hello! I have just returned to the Isuzu family. :P Yesterday I purchased a 2004 Axiom S AWD with a mere 6,000 miles. (It had been sitting on the same used car lot for more than 2 years!) I hope I got a good one because the original 3 yr bumper-to-bumper warranty expires in just over a month. I had previously owned a 1991 Isuzu Stylus which I bought used circa ... Read More

Bought an 04 Axiom in April of 2005. Again, one of the last few that were sold. I've taken it to an Isuzu Certified Service Center 4 times now for the same problem. While coming to a stop and slowing down, the vehicle shakes loudly and the brakes pulsate. I've had the tires rotated, balanced and aligned, the rotors turned, the brake pads replaced with higher end ones, the rear brakes ... Read More
I don't know where to start, let's see last Dec, 2004 I took my 02 Axiom in to the dealers and they fixed my seal as well, last week, the end of Nov 2005, I found my tranny doing the same and getting worse. My 02 is up to 89,000 miles and I have an outside 100,000 warranty as well. Isuzu said I need a new tranny and did not want ... Read More
No more US Rodeo or Axioms being built. The Ascender is an Isuzu version of the Trailblazer/Envoy. I just looked and though it seems longer, the Rodeo and Axiom were made through the 2004 model year. Latest rumors I heard was that about 2007 Isuzu planned to bring out a new vehicle in the US of their own design...not a copy of some GM vehicle. BUT the real questions are if ... Read More
Have been looking for a new vehicle and the Honda Pilot is ok but I don't like AWD, would rather have 2WD. Saw an Axiom on the road and loved the styling. Saw on the web site that it comes 2WD but noticed only in 2004, no 2005s!. Wish Isuzu wasn't in the shape it is in, I would buy one.
The axiom may live after all.......... hard to tell but its the lime green vehicle. Another article says the release has been postponed but that it is a isuzu based vehicle. Theres no mistaking that profile....it's an Axiom......... with a Nissan Marrano front end. http://www.cardesignnews.com/autoshows/2004/beijing/index.php

Thanks for your feedback! sbcooke: I purchased a used '02 Axiom back in 2002 from local Isuzu dealer. The Ax is made in April 2001, and was placed in service in June 2001. I really like the looks of the Axiom. There are some really great deals. Lots of 2003's and some 2004's. Is it worth spending the extra for the 2004? Isuzu claims the only vehicles with direct injection under $100,000.00. Is this good or bad? What other vehicles have this system? Also, if they stop prodution, will the 7/70 waranties be worthless? Reviews are not great , but that never stopped me ... Read More

It seems like the only place in the country that could give me a decent price these days is that M'Lady dealership where I suspect you got your 4WD Axiom too. I'd like to get a new Axiom (or maybe a Rodeo if the price is really low) soon because I like Isuzus and I got a decent deal on my 2002 Trooper back in the day. Has anyone seen one of the new Axioms with the direct injection engine at a dealer yet? We're hoping to get one after the first of the year. We had an 86 Trooper (Lord, I miss that truck!) and a 91 Rodeo, now we want to go back to Isuzus
If I bought again it would definitely be an 04 Axiom XS 4x4. It gets a new Direct Injection engine with 250 bhp. I have an 02 Axiom XS 2wd and love it! http://www.isuzunewsbureau.com/press.php?action=recent
It appears that Isuzu Motors finally realized how lack of advertisement affects their sales. Yesterday, for the first time, I saw commercial on Discovery channel advertising 2003 Isuzu Axiom - black beauty. I hope they are not too late because most automakers now advertise their 2004 models.
There was a lot of talk at one point about Isuzu finally bringing direct injection engines to the States boosting the horsepower and gas mileage... That was supposed to happen during the 2004 model year, so has it happened? Some of you said 2004 Axioms started showing up at dealers. Do they have the same specs as 2003s? http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2003/04/17/159599.html?NEWS
To be honest, I considered purchasing my '02 Axiom because of well designed both interior and exterior, not to mention the technical specs. I was so tired of all these similarly looking interiors of Pathfinder's, Xterra's, and Montero’s with ugly GM style looking knobs and switches. The Axiom's interior looks much better, car-like and more luxury than interior of any other SUV in that price range. Of course there are some ... Read More
See this article from the Consumer Guide Website: http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/new/reviews News: Isuzu's U.S. arm needs every sale it can get nowadays. That's why it stripped some standard features from the base Axiom and lowered the price. Surprisingly, Axiom sales shot up 53.6 percent in 2002 even as Isuzu's total U.S. sales plunged 35.7 percent. Yet Axiom still couldn't best 9000 units, a poor showing given the still-strong midsize-SUV market. With its Japanese ... Read More
