2022 Honda Ridgeline
I have purchased a new '22 Ridgeline to replace my 2019 version, and I like the new version even better than the '19. The infotainment is a little better with the added volume knob, and the gear paddles allow me to choose the gear I want without gunning the engine. Small complaints with the older model to be sure. The '22 rides well, the seat is comfortable, I have the paddles, the … push-button shifter works well, grill looks more like a 'real' truck, fuel economy is good, and the red this year is more 'fire engine' and less maroon. I wish the blind spot camera was still a thing, but Honda decided against it, I guess. Tires look more off-road and less minivan but still ride well. The Honda road noise is better than usual, I think, and the versatile tailgate still surprises some people who are unfamiliar. I can drive this thing for hours and feel fine. Apple play is included and between that and the infotainment system, all is good. The rear door opens wider than before and that's definitely a good thing if you're trying to put something bulky in the back seat. Heated seats work well, the heated steering wheel is a blessing on cold days and the climate control is very user-friendly. I've owned F150s in Lariat and King Ranch flavors, and they're darned nice, but for the money (2/3 of a KR), the RL is a great vehicle for someone who needs a truck only occasionally, or who just likes driving a truck-like vehicle. Complaints: the blind spot camera is gone, infotainment system is not as good as some other vehicles, and I would like to see more options when it comes to interior colors. But these are very minor complaints for this very good vehicle.
UPDATE: I own a 2019 Ridgeline and was shopping for a new Ridgeline. I worked through the packages and options and settled on the RTL-E. Found one in red and pulled the trigger. The redesign of the Ridgeline looks better to me and most of my friends. Styling is subtle but I think will stand the test of time. Chunkier front end, dual exhausts and paddle shifters are all improvements as far as I’m concerned. The new Ridgeline is what I prefer to drive these days and not just because it’s new. I’ve owned/own BMWs and Audis and Fords and all the Japanese brands and MINIs and Fiats and Lancias and the Ridgeline is what I drive when I want to go from Point A to Point B comfortably. The rear doors open wider than before, the driver’s seat is very comfortable, the interior is quiet, the ride is great, the rear passengers have plenty of knee-room, acceleration is good, the motor and transmission work well together, the underbed storage is super, the cabin cools quickly in Texas-sized heat, and the tailgate makes it easier to access the bed in whatever fashion I need. The truck is bulletproof, but parts are available anywhere (though I have never had a Honda/Acura break down on me). The infotainment system is a little clunky and not particularly intuitive, but eventually you figure it out. Sound system performance is good. Not as luxurious as the King Ranch F150 I owned or the KR Explorer I have now, but it costs a lot less. I hope Honda continues to build trucks and I plan to always have one in the fleet.
