Starting problems and Seat Belt Light/Warning bell
Written by: nickrusche on Oct 3, 2009 11:37:34 PM
I inherited a 1999 Chevrolet Prizm Base Model from my grandma when she stopped driving in the summer of 2008. At that time, it only had about 28,700 miles on it, and now it has over 39,800 miles on it. Here is my question: On September 12th, 2009, when I went to start it to go to work, it did nothing, the instrument panel lights came on (ie. Air Bag, Check ... Read More

Transmission Repair
Written by: tgrau on Apr 18, 2001 9:16:22 AM
Hi gang, I have a 1999 Chevy Prizm with about 47,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, because of the mileage my car that is less than 2 years old is outside the warranty period (3/36). About a week ago the transmission (3 speed automatic) went on me, and I had to eat a $2,500 repair bill to have it rebuilt (bad valve body if that means anything to you). The guy at ... Read More

Thanks for the response! I am so fed up with my current car--a 1999 Kia Sportage EX, 4X4. I bought it last July and have had nothing but problems with it! It has been in the shop at least once a month.... What burns my a** is that I was stupid enough to believe that I was buying a "reliable" automobile--yeah right! I can rely on seeing the service department once ... Read More

New 2001 Prizm
Written by: ravram on Mar 23, 2001 6:29:32 AM
Hello! I have been reading all the posts, and this sounds like such a great little car! No wonder I'm buying one on April 2nd..... :-) Anyway, please bear with my stupidity, but when you get ANYTHING done on these brand new cars--you take it back to the Chevy Dealeership, right? I'm only asking because of post #380 about the coolant. I hate to feel like a retard, but I have ... Read More

Written by: k33 on Feb 15, 2001 9:29:30 AM
I own a 1999 Chevy Prizm without ABS. Is it possible to put ABS on it? If so, any idea what the cost would be to have it done? Thanks, Ken

1999 Prizm Misc problems
Written by: capmedia on Jul 25, 2000 1:45:37 AM
I purchased a new 1999 Prizm last June. Within 7k miles, three of four tires had broken steel belts. Dealer wouldn't help. Found Firestone dealer who said warranty was invalid because tires had not been rotated at 5k miles. Since then, I've put a total of 10 tires on this car. Finally, Goodyear dealer says rear end is seriously out of alignment, causing tires to wear, but there is no provision ... Read More

Chevy Prizm 2000
Written by: luvmyprizm on May 14, 2000 6:07:47 PM
I have a 1990 Geo Prizm (manual) with almost 210,000 miles, which I love. I have never owned a car as reliable and problem-free as this one, with the lagniappe of being fun to drive. It has no problems and still gets 30+ MPG, but I am beginning to be concerned about its age and mileage. So I am considering getting a 1999 or 2000 model. However, did the change to ... Read More

One week review
Written by: flamanar on Apr 20, 2000 6:23:39 PM
Well, after having my 1999 Prizm a week, here's what I think. Suspension is very firm, but I don't think it's a bad thing. Tires still have to go. I get some loud humming when going above about 40 mph...I'm not sure, but it might be the tires again. I'm getting used to the 3-speed auto trans, but I think I'd probably like the 4-speed better. The radio is excellent. Love ... Read More

Spark noise on cassette player
Written by: sidrc on Mar 8, 2000 10:19:51 PM
I recently had a good-quality after-market stereo installed on my new 1999 Prizm. The cassette player - probably the tape head - is since picking up what sounds very much like electromagnetic noise from the spark plugs. No noise when the engine is turned off. I have heard that some people have come across this problem with their Toyota Corollas and Geo/Chevy Prizms. Any of you have any suggestions? The stereo ... Read More

Last October I purchased a 1999 Chevy Prizm... the 3-speed automatic (what was i thinking?). Within one month I had to take the car back to the dealer to have the windshield wipers fixed since the wiper motor died on my way home from work... i live in seattle, this was a BIG problem. Tires... the tires the car came with may work just fine if you live in a flat ... Read More
