Or do you live along the shore and salt water rusted it? To remove the oil pan you have to remove 12 bottom bolts and 6 side bolts. For safety you may want to disconnect the battery ... Read More

I just bought a 2001 impala and it has the clicking noise when I turn the wheel. It does it when I am breaking and turning around corners, and also when stationary. No clicking while on the road at higher speeds. I have not ever owned an impala, but test drove three other 2000 impalas when looking to purchase my car, 2 of the 3 had the noise. I assumed this ... My dad has been using Havoline oil for years (since the late '50s at least) with no oil-related problems on any vehicle we've owned (and he keeps most for 10+ years, his "new" truck is a '97 model with @ 130k miles). On my 2000 Impala (3.8l engine), I've been running Mobil-1 synthetic, and changing it based on the oil change monitor. Mine tends to register time for a change around ... Read More

I just received a letter from the recall dept of GM informing me that there are problems with the catalytic converters in the Impala's with both engines 3.4 and 3.8 2000 to 2005. The letter mentions that the car could loose power due to the catalytic converter failing, and that Chevy will fix the problem if anyone experiences this issue for 10 yrs or 120,000 miles whichever comes first free from ... Just like others my 2000 impala won't start. Iwas driving and the engine cut off and PS locked up. All the power works but the engine want turn over. Have anybody else with problem ever get this resolved. The worst thing is that I'm in a foreign country with no CHEVY/GM dealership to take it to. Just a foreign national working for the Gov't. If the sound is more of a high pitched, "ticking" or "creaking" type sound (sort of like the sounds an engine makes when it's cooling down, but tied to steering inputs), it is probably related to the aluminium engine cradle. There were complaints about this early on in the 2000 Impalas, and it seems like a few folks either had cracks in welds, or had shims or other repairs done to ... Read More
My Father has a 2000 Impala with approx. 82,000 KM on it. The problem is when he is driving the battery light will come on followed by the security light and then shut everything down. He looses power brakes as well as power steering, so he has to shift into neutral and turn the key off and restart the engine. The Chevy Mechanic has no idea and can't see any problems ... Read More
I have sold Impala's since they came back out in 2000. The Impala is one of the few vehicles you can buy with a bench seat. Most of the people who buy them are older people who are used to the gear shifter on the column not on the floor. A lot of people who have arthritis in the hands have a problem pushing in the brake/shift interlock button on a ... Read More

Is going to loose whatever police business it had if there is no room in the rear seat. That is so stupid! Alot of their business came from fleet/police sales. And now chrysler (read German auto company) is introducing v6 and hemi v8 cargers for polics duty!? I talked to a few cops, they hated the "new" 2000 - 2005 impalas. One of the reasons is they said it was small. ... Read More

I think Camcords are a main competitor even though they may be closer in size to the Malibu. People will cross shop them because of the similar price levels. 4 banger Camcords start where the base Impalas do and I think Impala offers much more value and space at that higher volume entry point. The LTZ competes with the V6 Camcords and the SS has a market almost all to it's ... Read More

I probably came on kind of strong about my comments, no personal attack intended. I believe the 2006 Impala SS will do well. We all have wish lists of what a car should look like or offer. I know the 00-05 Impala's had some problems early on. The cracked welds on the cradle, the warped brake rotors, the intake manifold leak, and a few of transmission problems. Over time these issues ... Read More
I was disappointed when I caught my first glimpse of the redesigned Impala for '06. While I wouldn't call the car ugly or anything, it has lost is subtle retro look, which is why I purchased my '02 Impala LS in the first place. Popular Mechanics says the demographics of Impala owners.......Under 30 9.5%.......30-49 31.5%........age 50 plus.. 59% of sales - thats me! The Impala satisfies the needs of many across the spectrum but mostly owners over 40 who need a large roomy family sedan that can seat 5 or 6 comfortably. I personally see very little in the Charger which resembles the old one. Looks like a melted old-style Durango/Dakota front end, with a 300C body. Retro sells, but only for awhile. The New Beetle and PT Cruiser were hot, but sales cooled after the gimmick wore off. And, it sure didn't work for the Ford Thunderbird. I expect Mustang sales will cool in a year or so - as supply catches ... Read More

John: There is a difference between a sleeper then a car that looks asleep. All kidding aside, if I remember correctly you criticized Chevy for making the 2000-2005 Impala LS into a sleeper.
