Hi, I have a 1998 Chevy Astro Van AWD, and the heat and ac is stuck on defrost. Also my rear heat stopped working shortly afterwards and just blows cold air. Please help me out.
Could be the regulator but it's attached to the main computer for the injectors under the plenum, if it' a vortec which it probally is. My nephew has a 97 or 98 and has to replace the fuel pump every six months or so.His vapor locks and quits running like that and he started running with the fuel cap loose.I think some of the later model Astros have an issue with ... Hey guys.. going out of my mind with my wife's 1998 AWD Astro Van. The fuel pump died at 120,000 miles had it replaced months ago and it ran fine for a couple of months, then out of nowhere, the van would stall while idling in a parking lot, and have to sit for a while before it would restart. Most recently it would drive fine for 60-70 miles and then ... Read More
I have a 1998 Chevy Astro, 156,000m this is a recent issue where if it rains heavily during the night my van will not start at all the next morning, I dont seem to be able to hear the fuel pump engaging @ Key on position, I have checked and replaced the fuel pump relay, but still the same problem persists. I am not sure what the culprit could be as ... Read More
. Sounds like the gears in your van's rear end are going (or starting to go). Might want to get an automotive shop to investigate it further. If wondering, Safaris/Astros do have under built rear ends. The "most often" hold up during normal driving conditions but tend to blow when towing many hours above 4,000 lbs. Here's a small cut / paste from one consumer report: -------------- It is possible to ... Read More
I have to begin by answering a question with a question. Did you purchase your chevy used, and if so, did you purchase it from a dealer or private seller? If you purchased the vehicle from a private seller, it is possible that the engine could have been replaced before you purchased your astro van. If you purchased your astro van from the dealer as a used vehicle, it is possible ... Read More
I purchased a 1998 astro van a few years ago and have had a number of fuel related problems. I have had to replace the fuel pump twice. The van will not start after sitting for a few hours. If you turn the ignition on but do not start the van for about 2 minutes it will start after a few tries. My mechanic was going to check the fuel injection but ... Read More
I have a 1998 Chevy Astro Van... and I hear a humming in the rear end.. I think it might be the differential... Can anyone tell me about that, or what it would cost to get it fixed? Thanks
Hi All, I am looking at purchasing a Chevy Astro in the near future to serve as my "dog show" vehicle :-) I am looking for advice as to if there are any years I should avoid (looking in the 1998-2003 range) and what is the average lifetime mileage on an Astro before you start seeing major issues. I know that this is dependant on care of the car but I ... Read More
Hello out there... I need a good used Cargo van for a new business I'm starting. I'm looking at a 1998 Chevy Astro cargo with AWD and 78000 miles. It was previously a Verizon Fleet Car. Some people have advised me to stay away from the AWD. Any experience/opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Larry
I've purchased my first Astro -- a 2002 model. It's a Pewter LS with trailer package (including the 3.73 rear end), front and rear air/heat, dutch doors, keyless entry, cassette/radio/cd, etc. List -- $28,100, purchase price $20,400. It was used slightly by the administration for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics (2200 miles on vehicle). It's in excellent/new shape. I've been evaluating vans now for over a year, and currently own ... Read More
We purchased a '98 Astro LT May 1998. I had to replace the transmission at 41k, no dealer/manufacturer help at all. Buy it new and you get 36k mile warranty. Buy a new trans to put in it and get a 50k mile warranty. Explain that one to me. Also, our gas pedal sticks, tensioner arm for the s-belt broke off, fuel pump hums like crazy, squeaks and rattles everywhere. Has ... Read More
