TORRANCE, California — Toyota said it is recalling approximately 342,000 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab pickups produced from 2004-'11 because of potentially defective seatbelts.

"In the involved vehicles, screws that attach the seatbelt pre-tensioner to the seatbelt retractor within the seatbelt assembly for the driver and front passenger can become loose over time due to repeatedly and forcefully closing the access door," said Toyota in a statement on Wednesday.

"If the screws loosen completely, the seatbelt pre-tensioner and the retractor spring cover could detach from the seatbelt retractor, which can affect retractor and pre-tensioner performance."

No information about the recall has been posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Owners can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or go to Toyota.com/Recalls.

Edmunds says: When you receive a notice from Toyota about the recall, you'll need to take your Tacoma into the dealership for repairs.
