This is a very fine and high quality vehicle. Its gas mileage could be better. I consider this the poor man's Porche.

Love the Touareg

Consumer Reports gave the Touareg V6 low ratings. Their reviews citing "sluggishness" do not consider the tiptronic shifting or "superdrive" options. It is not a racecar, but its performance is more than adequate. Also, I get 19-20mpg in 7,500-8,700ft mountainous terrain using high quality oil; it's as good or better than comparable SUVs. Ice and snow on steep hills -- no problem; the Toureg outperforms our Subaru Outback on ice because of the locking differential and torque. The heated seats sure do help on cold mornings. For driving performance, there is very little lean around corners; I feel safe while driving and would recommend this truck to anyone.

Loving it!

I purchased my Touareg three week ago, and I absolutely love it. It’s fun to drive, and it feels great. The interior is second to none. I considered several other SUV’s in it’s class, and the Touareg's interior was far superior. I do however, wish that it had slightly quicker acceleration, which I hear is obtainable with the V8. I also would have liked to have had an optional third row seat. The Toureg is more spacious than some of its competitors as a result of leaving the third row out. So, that’s a toss up. Even with the three rows down in some of the other SUV’S it felt congested. There is no congestion in the Toureg. The only downside to purchasing the Touareg is the frequent trips to refuel. GO FOR IT.

Major Issues

I have had my car into the shop multiple times for issues with the computer and they can not seem to get them straight. Most recently I have had to replace the brakes (including the rotors). I was told by someone in the service department that this was very common and that there were a lot of "Unhappy Touareg Customers". I was basically told that I would have to spend $1,500 dollars every two years on the brakes with this car. To add to this...when I called into Volkswagen's customer care department and was told that the problem was merely related to my driving habits. I have children or pets in my vehicle most of the time and I assure you that my driving habits are average at most.

Beautiful, but Ugly Gas Mileage

Overall I love the truck...but I am finding some of the features difficult to use like the trip computer and even the a/c. The Volkswagen Touareg drives awesome though and makes up for the few shortcomings stated above. I haven't taken it up to the mountains yet, but I intend to go up next weekend and I will write another review at that time. Oh, I almost forgot about the terrible gas mileage 13 mpg. VW needs to offer the Touared in front wheel drive to improve the gas mileage.

V6 Touareg - Happy Owner

I would definitely buy another Touareg. It is truly a baby Porsche. For a V6 it has enough grunt and power. The interior is very well done, everything is within reach and the materials are excellent. The tailgate / hatch opens wide and there is enough room for just about anything that you would need an SUV for. After looking at Toyotas and Hondas, I found that for the price of the VW I was getting a much more truck and VW has been around longer than the other two.

What a fabulous vehicle! I have a 3.2L V6 fully loaded in Light Blue and Gray interior. Without question this is the best handling SUV on the road and one of the most comfortable to drive on or off. I've thrown this new vehilce around all kinds of corners and it just keeps on sticking. The V6 engine is slightly underpowered during uphill acceleration at 240 HP but this will be upgraded for '07 to 280 HP. Its gas mileage is well... very SUV. It has an annoying wheel balance/alignment issue which the dealership says shouldn't be fixed under 6,000 miles to avoid future problems. Otherwise this truck is perfect.

I looked at 'em all and the 2006 Volkswagen Touareg is by far the best. My single complaint is that the V6 needs a little more get-up-and- go. The lack of power wouldn't keep me from buying the vehicle again, but it is a minor drawback. However, the positives far outweigh the negatives on this vehicle. It handles incredibly well given it's weight - you actually feel safer because it feels like you are driving a tank built by Porsche. I almost didn't look at this vehicle because VW has done a poor of job advertising. Even their website and brochure do not describe this vehicle well. Some of the coolest features aren't found in their literature. Believe me, one test drive & your hooked.

This SUV Deserves Much Better

This car deserves much better reviews from the so-called experts. I find it to be an ideal size, easy to get in and out, nothing rattles, the tolerances in the body work are amazingly tight, and the paintwork is flawless. Also the chrome, beautiful wheels and an interior matche Mercedes-Benz any time. The list of standard equipment is comprehensive, you hardly need anything else. Off-Road work on our ranches is no problem at all, with high and low 4wheel drive and locked differentials and on road driving is a pleasure.

The 2006 Volkswagen Touareg V8 is probably the most fun truck to drive. It rides very smoothly ( you don't realize you are driving 80 mph). It has no wind, road, or engine noise. It is very pacious and has a solid and luxurious feel. It has a lot of features that I really enjoy and that makes the driving experience a real delight. It is a German engineered ride at a lesser price!

Clunky When Changing Gears

I have had my Touareg for two months and I like it, but it makes a lot of noises. When driving along and you take your foot of gas it slows down to 20 miles an hour then when you hit gas it clunks into gear. I took it to the dealer and they say that this is normal. I have had other SUVs and that has never been the case. If i would have noticed that when test driving I would not have bought the truck. Other then that the, Touareg is nice. The clunking gears is what I do not like.

I bought a 2005 Touareg without researching after my first test drive. Nine days later, in the shop, I was given a loaner, and 30 days later a new 2006 model! The 2006 is a big improvement, fun to drive, and very comfortable. Its gas milage is horrible, but she's pretty. I won't buy another, but as long as she runs I'll realy enjoy her.

I have a special edition Touareg with 19" wheels, DVD Navigation and other goodies. The car is very competent in traffic, freeway, tight roads, and rough roads. Its fuel economy is not good, but we knew that when we bought it. In 3,000 miles, the only two complaints we have is that the radio or CD player comes on with the backup camera, even if it was off when the car was parked. The other problem is the navigation system is useless. Though not difficult to use it is cumbersome, slow, and usually does not have an address in the database. We still use our $500 Garmin GPS if we need navigation help.

This SUV really drives like a car until the weather gets bad and then it drives like a very good SUV. The good comments about how the Touareg handles are not overstating it. I use a hitch mounted bike rack to haul bikes around and the Touareg works great for that. I don't have to worry about how primitive the trailheads will be.

I enjoy driving my vehicle and the suspension is very smooth. The turning radius is awesome. I am able to manuever with ease and the steering is very comfortable. The interior of the vehicle seals off the noise from the outside. The seats are very comfortable and the head space is roomy. I think its neat that the glove compartment is also air conditioned to keep your chocolates from melting.

I have so many problems with this car. The brakes scream every time I step on them. Just recently when ever I turn (what sounds like the fan belt) rattles when I turn. The seats are not comfortable, If you have a family and use the back seat a lot you might as well by a boulder to drive because it feels like your riding on one. I don't think the new ones are much better.

I've had my 2006 Touareg V6 for a little over a week and I is a great SUV. I test drove every high end sedan and SUV and the Touareg beats them hands down. The quality, ride and comfort can't be beat. I've also not seen another Touareg on the street since delivery and I love that. I've owned VW's back in the early '80's and I had forgotten how well they are engineered. Don't by a Mercedes, buy a Touareg.

The 2006 Volkswagen Touareg V6 has a great ride on city roads and highways. It handles like a car. It's very comfortable for long trips. I haven't taken it off road, but I can't wait to see what this baby can do. It also has more cargo space than its competitors! I love its design, this SUV definitely stands out from the rest, it's great vehicle.

Having come from four GMC Denalis ('01 through '04) I thought I was getting a baby Porsche at a great price. What I have is a vehicle in search of a gear and with lousy torque. This V8 and six speed transmission acts more like a rubber band unwinding when you have to boot it at any speed above 30 mph. The sport selection helps some but it just won't get out of its own way. Let's talk about the wonderful auto lock that locks all the doors whether you like it or not; or how about the lag in opening the locks from the keyless remote. Finally you have to love the feature where you unlock the car remotely and it relocks itself about 30 seconds later. What's up with that? Mine has no satellite radio and the ties were gone in 15,000 miles.

I am very impressed with the VW Touareg V6. Having owned many American model cars the Touareg provides my family and I with a sense of security and reliability when compared to its counterparts. The Touareg is a wonderful vehicle to drive. In fact, I am considering purchasing another Touareg.
