I have had the car for quite some time now 2 years and the car continues to give me that same feeling I had the first day I brought it home. German quality shines through wish interior fit and finish. The engine is stout with its great power. I have not encountered problems that others have posted, but I have always taken care of my cars. The window has not "fallen in", but the did perform the recall on the window free of charge. This is my forth VW in the last 35 years and I will continue to be a VW man!

Yes, the windows do "rattle" a little when you hit a bump...yes, the cupholders are in a bad place...but if you are looking for the perfect car, it is not going to come at a $25000 price tag. The car handles wonderfully, the seats are comfortable (not to mention heated), it looks better than any other small sedan and has low maintenence and the highest resale value in its class. You are not going to find a better car for the price. Oh, and to the person who said the doors are heavy...THAT IS A GOOD THING...it means it is a quality, solidly built vehicle. I highly recommend this car to anyone considering it.

Solid, "Euro" feeling ride and handling. The Jetta feels like a miniature Audi. Great quality interior. Very comfortable ergonomics, and the seats themselves are top notch. Styling is more classy than the competition. Nice details abound, like the beautifully crafted headlights. Again, fit and finish make me think Audi. I especially like the nicely illuminated gauges and switches at night. My average over 5,500 miles has been 28.1 mpg with the 2.0 and 5 speed. It's peppy in normal everyday driving and has a fat torque curve - enough power for my needs. Those that want more can choose the Turbo. I haven't had a single problem with the car.

I have had 2 Jettas now! I turned my first Jetta in after one year because it was in the shop so often. Always for something different, so I could not classify it as a lemon. My new Jetta (2003) has already been in the shop for faulty airbags. I find that scary, seeing how I drove the car for a full year before they realized the problem. I will never again purchase a VW. I will only recommend this car to people without children. The cars are cute but VW has some serious quirks to work out in their vehicles!

WOW. I was really excited to get this new car, and at first the car was great. At 6000 miles the clutch died, shortly after that the gasket around the CV joint was leaking fluid, then the sunroof broke (I've taken it in 3 times so far - rattles everytime you close the door or go over a bump still). Everytime I step on the clutch pedal is makes a rubber squeaking sound - all in all, I've taken my car to the shop about 14 times now! Be warned - I think due to its popularity, they have sped up production time, and as a result quality has gone dramatically down. My sister has a 1998 jetta (previous design) and never had a problem. Think twice before you buy.

This is a very fun car to drive, however, I wouldn't buy another one. First, I've had way too many problems with my power windows. Second, the interior materials peel. There is a slight covering on the interior surface that peels off. Third, I"ve had all kinds of problems with the clutch in my vehicle. What makes it worse is the dealership hasseling me over the work. Between the car experience and the dealership I will never buy another Volkswagen.

I got the jetta 1.8t because of my love of turbocharged engines. If you love performance, this car does a good job. The real performance comes when you get a aftermarket chip for the car, makes it a totally different car. The only thing that has happened to me was some of the stitching for thr front seat that holds the back in started to come undone and puffed out. A quick stop by the VW dealership quickly fixed this and they even got me a rental car. Good job, VW! :-)

Within 6 mos of ownership: the driver's side window fell into the door and the driver's side tail light burnt out, suspension started making creaking noises, coil pack went out, computer burnt up, sub-frame bolts were stripped and needed to be replaced, as well as other parts on the suspension. Been to dealer 6 times to correct creaking noises, but to no avail. Vehicle has spent more time in service in the past 3 mos than I've seen it-total of about 40 days. Not my idea of reliability. Appalled by the level of rudeness received from the VW Customer Service Department.

Overall, I am completely dissatisfied with this car. It is sad to say that I will never purchase a VW again! I wouldn't drive this car off a cliff! During winter it would not start. I took to the dealer 3 times and they said nothing was wrong. I paid a lot of money for supposed German engineering and quality that aren't there.

outstanding fuel economy with excellent pickup and no smoke the only downside is they don't offer this engine across the board........You don't need all those batteries, outragous weight, or explosive gases to do your part for the environment...... with regard to any health issues I would say they are a non-issue.....

Bought the car with reservations but the interest rate and warranty made me take the chance. So far not one problem and I've driven it hard. Like others have noted the back seat needs improvement but I hear that is coming in 2005. The cupholders ... don't hit a bump with that soda can not being held! Other than those minor issues I have nothing bad to say....I'll be able to write more once it's back from the body shop. Nice drive side swiped me two weeks after making the first payment!

I've had it for over a week now and I am very impressed. I went for the basic GL 5-speed, but you get so much with it. Power windows, power locks, security system, etc. I also got the Monsoon sound system that was already installed. Comparible cars couldn't compete. I had a Jeep Cherokee and swore I would never buy anything but an SUV again, that is until my wife talked me into to test driving the Jetta. I was hooked and I love it. It rides so smooth, so be careful. You can be doing 80 to 85 and not even realize it!

I bought my Jetta 1.8T after driving a Civic for several years. I looked at all of the cars in this class, including the Civic, and decided that the Jetta has them all beat: more power, better styling, excellent fit and finish, and a great interior. It's not a perfect car (I hate the cupholders as much as anyone) but it sure comes close! I’d have to say that the best part of the car is the way it drives. You’ll just have to get behind the wheel and see for yourself. I highly recommend the 5- speed manual.

This was my first VW ever bought. 3 of my friends had bought VW's within the past 2 yrs and they loved their cars (all Jetta' from base to GLX's) they handle great in the snow and they are alot of fun on dry roads. So far my exp have been all fun w/this new car of mine. If it keeps goin this way VW has found themselves a new customer for life. VW has put in so many little features that other manufactures leave out and it makes you wonder how you lived w/out them for so long.

I have read all the previous customer reviews, and I am just appalled that a car of this caliber can receive so much negative criticism. Maybe these people just are unhappy with their lives and nothing will ever be good enough for them. If this car is so horrible why dont you just go buy a $250K Ferrari or something. Bottom line, this car rocks!!! Anyone who says otherwise knows not what they do. Also another key ingredient for a pleasant experience for car ownership has to be the dealer in which it is purchased. I feel much better now. VW keep up the excellent work!!!

I bought this car for my wife...I want it back for myself. And i HATE cars..I drive a big pickup truck. Fit and finish are first in this car's class by a wide margin. Acceleration with the turbo engine is exhilarating (or at least exhilarating for a car under 23,000, that is). Everything about this car is nearly perfect. I am completely satisfied, more so than with any car we have ever owned. I would STRONGLY recommend this car to anyone, even someone who can afford 35,000- 40,000. You won't find more car for your money.

I have a 99 Jetta and I tell ya, I refuse to buy another car. I'm selling my car right now and I'm upgradeing to a 2004 Jetta. I got in a car accent about a year ago. I was in my jetta and I stopped for a red light when a man in a BMW hit me from behind going 40 mph. The accent did do some damage to my car but I tell ya, It should have been a lot worse. My bumper absorbed all the accent and I didn't get hurt at all. I do have to admit, the BMW looked like it hit a tree. It did not crash well. I was not the least bit impressed. I highly recomend a jetta to anyone. I recomend a jetta to anyone who is looking for a new car.

The look of the car, the quick acceleration and the sporty feel just makes me glad that I bought it. Get the leather package. Gives a more sporty European feel.

I had a 12V VR6 before this and after the test drive could not justify spending the extra $$$. The turbo has great pull and a lot more top end power then you would suspect. At 75mph you are only at 2800rpm so you are right in the middle of the power band. The manual transmission is very smooth and I was very happy with the clutch as well. I don't have a lot of miles yet so I cannot speak to reliability. Traded in the VR6 with 60,000 miles with no problems.

I've only been driving my 03' Wolfsburg 5spd. for a few days, but I must say that I am pleasantly surprised with my initial impression of the car. The build quality is very tight, and the materials are of high quality. I was/am definitely nervous about Mexican build quality, but initially it's great. The seats are fantastic, the engine performs strongly, it's quiet, and the standard stereo sounds great. This is my first "European" car (I've only purchased Japanese cars before), so I'm definitely nervous about reliability. Hopefully, I will be lucky!

Great car fun to drive! With this car you gotta be careful when you wanna stick it to the floor. The car is light, powerful and fast! Just what I need, and more to merge on to the beltway. Gas is good, so long as I don't lay into the turbo too much. Great Monsoon sound system. I just love the car. Not much room for those in the back seats, however, no ones rides back there anyway!

I've had my jetta for about two years now, and I've loved every minute of it. Only problem that i've had was the transmission had to be replaced at 16000 miles -- I'll chalk that up to a fluke, the replacement has been running perfectly ever since. Handling is great, good power, I have no complaints.

I've had the car for only four days and I really love it. The fit and finish is is superb, the materials are all high quality. The monsoon sound system really kicks. The ride is taut and the steering is tight and very well balanced. The suspension is sporty and it stays surprisingly flat on turns. This is a fun car to drive, it handles like it should cost another ten grand.
