Bought the Aqua version as a dumb 19 year old

19 years old. Just got a “ good “ job. I previously had a VW Fox and liked the utilitarian design. Drove past the VW dealer in Alexandria, Virginia the teal/aqua 1992 golf caught my eye . American cars at the time were let’s face it redneck machines. If you were gonna get a girl, who had any kind of class at all, you weren’t gonna pick her up at that age in a Camaro, Thunderbird Mustang, any of those cars. Some of the Japanese cars were nice like the civic SI and the CRX but I just like the European style. Despite the slightly boxy Shape of the car compared to the much more streamline looking Japanese versions sort of looks little odd But something about it was also timeless. I’m not sure if it’s just my biased eyes but even to this day I think the car is still very nice looking car. Before I tell you how it performed, I’ll tell you my 19 year old non-existent bargaining tactics at the dealer. Basically, I paid full price for it. I even heard the salesman ( Which was his first day ever as a salesman ) say what a sucker I was while he was going to get a copy of something.Lololo! Back to its performance. It was OK I mean compared to Economy, cars of the day had a little get up to it but it still a 1.8 liter four banger. I did like the manual stick shift, but I gotta say after driving the DC Beltway for many years the stick shift got old pretty fast. My heater core blew out one winter which left like a pile of goo like antifreeze under the glove box passenger side floor. That was a crappy winter. I also always had problems with that damn Bosch distributor cap. I can’t tell you how many times I replaced and the distributor itself. Anytime it would rain. There was a good chance. Water was going to get into it. I really can’t see myself being that much of a dummy back then to not be able to figure out why Water became such a problem. I’d resorted WD-40 spraying in there bought the genuine distributor cab new wires, countless times it just happened for some reason.. My good job didn’t pay good enough, and I learned fast that the repo man is real. I always got it back, but Yet another lesson, I had to learn the hard way . Another lesson which I learned the very hard way was if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Well, after Another one of my lessons learned the hard way was drinking does not help anything, especially anything you need to remember how you took something apart so you can put it back together. I decided I was going to increased my wire cage going to my speakers. I got all sorts, a little sidetracked routes, and basically took the whole dashboard apart right in the middle of drinking 12 to 18 beers! lol. At the time I had a company vehicle so I didn’t Really drive the car much. After year or so, we’re just sitting there I sold it to some guy from Guatemala for $3000 in nonworking order and unbelievably, I’ve seen the car several times over the years driving on the DC Beltway Last time was about five years ago. Absolutely positive it was my car because it still had a unique sticker still on the back window!! Oh, by the way, When it comes to picking up women. It might help when you’re younger a little bit But once you get older, you learn that materials things are not what people are looking for. Let me rephrase it not what people are looking for who are worth considering a long-term relationship with.

I have been driving this car for over a year. It has exceeded my expectations by ten fold. Also, it is very easy to customize it to just how you like it. Durability is superior to other newer cars today.
