Used 2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Consumer Reviews
2017 Tacoma Double Cab TRD Sport 4X4 w/6sp manual
I purchased this vehicle to replace a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Sport that had a 6 speed manual trans. The Tacoma was purchased with a 6 speed manual transmission for more control for driving on the beaches in Delaware to surf fish. The vehicle with only 500 miles on the odometer is getting 21 mpg. The performance, ride, handling, quality.....everything is outstanding. I guess the big plus is that I purchased a 6 speed manual transmission, and not an automatic which many reviews complain about shifting and being sluggish. Not so with the 6 speed manual. My recommendation is buy with the manual transmission. Toyota is on the cutting edge for safety and technology. The Tacoma comes with the Qi Wireless charging pad built into the tray area in front of the floor shifter. I have a iPhone 6, so I bought a Benzalel Latitude Qi Wireless Charger Case for my iPhone 6. It works perfectly....wireless charging. If you have a Samsung you should be able to wireless charge your phone in the Tacoma without having to buy a special case. I have no issue with the seating height of the front seats being 6'1". My wife who is 5'4" loves the passenger seat height. I did get the factory Toyota Predator Running Boards installed at the dealership so that my wife could get in easier. The higher height of the truck makes for driving on the beach and crossing sand dune entry points very easy. Zoom, Zoom. One year later, I still love my ‘17 Tacoma Sport TRD 4x4. Love the 6 speed manual transmission. Love the ride and handling. The extent of my off reading is riding the beaches of Delaware Surf Fishing. Now have 9000K on my vehicle. Update.....December 11, 2019 My ‘17 Tacoma Sport TRD 4x4 is now 2 1/2 plus years old, and has 21,000 miles. I still love the truck. Some minor issues have been addressed and corrected under warranty. I still highly recommend the Tacoma, and still love having the 6 Speed Manual Transmission.

TRD Pro
The engine has been a point of contention so I will make this short, normal every day driving you would never notice and by purchasing a manual transmission I am not subject to the "indecisive" automatic. I will say that it could do with a little more low end torque and wish there was a supercharger/turbo option. Overall I love the truck and off-road comfort is amazing without sacrificing the on road sensibility. Update Nov 17: Still love the truck and no major issues to report. Only one thing that I need to follow up with the Service dept. is a noticeable humming when cruising in 4th gear as the accelerator is just being engaged/disengaged. Nov. 18 Etune system does random reboots usually when using Bluetooth audio and a call comes in. Need to get to Toyota to diagnose. An irritation for sure, but I still love the truck. April. 19 Toyota fixed the issue with the Entune head unit in December and it has been solid since. No other issues or concerns. May 2021: Truck is still going strong after 4 years with no major issues or irritations. Been all over Nevada, on and off-road with nary a complaint.

Should Have Had Longer Test Drive
I purchased this vehicle based mostly on Toyotas reputation. I have 13500 miles on the vehicle and the engine has always had a stutter during idle, and it seems to be pulling itself apart from its motor mounts on acceleration. Toyota should not offer a 4 cylinder on a truck this big. It is downright unsafe. I can hardly merge into traffic. The suspension is overly stiff and has about thrown me off the road before when hitting a series of small pot holes on the interstate. I know it is a truck, but there needs to be some dampening. It does a poor job of handling corners. This is all unloaded. I have not even bothered to put any type of load in the vehicle. Today the blower fan went out completely and suddenly with a horrible noise in 95 degree weather. I pulled the part out and of course a cheap plastic insert connection to the drive shaft sheared off. This type of connection should be reinforced - unacceptable, and cutting corners in a bad way - of course made in China. Dealer is back ordered on the replacement. Did I mention I only have 13500 miles on the vehicle. As I was complaining this morning my wife showed me a recall for the rear drive coupling. Really!

REGRETS !!!
If I had known what I now know I would have NOT bought this truck!!!!! On the road the transmission shifts much too much on the slightest slope & the gas mileage is only 20mpg!!!!!!! I should have kept my 2017 GMC Terrain V6 or my 2002 Dakota double cab 4x4!!!!!!!!! NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2017 Toyota Tacoma SR5
Other than the automatic transmission constantly shifting (which I'm getting used to) my only serious complaint is that for a 32k vehicle not to have intermittent windshield wipers is unforgivable. I haven't owned a vehicle in 30 years that didn't have them regardless of the cost. Found a new switch online and installed in about 15 mins but absolutely irritated that I had to. Where I live, they are a must. The car came with heated mirrors which is nice, but if they were going to cut costs, (which is clearly why they did it) they could have left these out instead of the intermittent wipers.
