Used 1996 Toyota RAV4 SUV Consumer Reviews
Great Vehicle
Bought used in 02 and now have over 155000 miles. It is a daily driver, handles the day to day driving with no problems at all. I have driven it in icy conditions and in off-road muddy conditions and have had no problems with it. I hope to have it for years to come
AMAZING
My 96 rav 4 has 354,464 miles on it and it’s still going. Great and reliable!

Green and loving it!!
Bought it 4 months ago and fell in loved the day I test drove it. Replaced the brakes, changed the PCV valve it was totally crapped out and very loose. Their is a hose that is connected to my air that was disconnected that causing the idle very low and sometimes die. After I fixed those issue this baby ran purr like a kitten. I then added spoiler and upgraded the tail lights to make her more appealing. Will keep this little suv forever!!!

'96 Auto of the year?!?~!!
How this got auto of the year astounds me. This car is the most underpowered thing. To get on the highway from the access road, you car has to get up to 4000 rmps (redlines at 6000). Stck radio is horrible. Roof-rack is there for decoration. Brakes ALWAYS squeal (toyota said this was normal), Ride is NOISY, just an all around bad car. Maybe a stronger engine, better brakes, better shocks...masculine lines would satisfy me. Men out there. in the 7 years i've driven this rav4. I only have seen one other guy driving it.
Queenstown Hack
Bought my 1996 Rav 4 four door nearly ten years ago. I use to haul the kids up the ski fields around Queenstown (NZ). The Remarks Road was rough in places and the car was always sure footed. I also did a lot of off road prospecting for gold. I’ve had it so deep in river crossings that it semi bounced across. I’ve serviced it regularly and fitted off road tyres for better grip. I did manage to bend a con rod when on one deep water crossing it got shot water that had bypassed the air filter, caused by go too fast thru the crossing. The air inlet is behind the radiator and down low. It still got me home and that happened at 200 K on the motor. They fitted a new con rod and lower mains and big end shells, the ring gap was still in spec and the factory hone marks still visible in the bore. It’s basically a parts bin job that Toyota built when it was introduced but it’s one of those rare events where the whole exceeds the sum of its parts. I couldn’t think of a better more reliable car for what do I with it.
