Used 1996 Toyota RAV4 SUV Consumer Reviews
Fun Car to Drive
I bought my 1996 2 door RAV4 in 2000 and it's the most fun car I've ever driven. Got rid of my 2000 Honda Accord and bought the RAV4 and have never regretted it. It rides higher than the Accord and I do not feel at all claustraphobic (is that fear of small places or fear of Santa?). It's plenty peepy for a 4 cylinder and the styling is awesome. It's a shame they don't make the 2 door RAV4 anymore. There is a HUGE international fan club for the original RAV4.
96 RAV4 Review
I have 92,000 miles and service it every 3000 miles. Drive 18 miles to work each day at around 26 MPG. My RAV is a five speed and I tow it behind a large RV, great RV tow car. I have an interchangeable brush guard and tow assembley on front. Great AC and heat and park anywhere. I have really enjoyed the car. Fun in the mountains of north Georgia. Double sun roof, paint finish is still very good. Paid $11,500 for the car about seven or eight years ago. I think it is a good little car. I plan to keep the car until the wheels fall off.

My RAV-4
I purchased my 1996 RAV-4 in May 2000 when it had only 28,000 miles on it, one previous owner and clean as a whistle! It has proven to be a very reliable and appropriate vehicle for me. It's the first car I've ever owned that I feel truly fits my personality. Aside from the fact that it has only a 4-cyl engine which makes acceleration onto highways a bit of a challenge, I just love this car! I want to trade my 1996 for a newer model, but I don't really like the body style of the newer RAVs. I wish Toyota had left well enough alone.
Most reliable, best small car-like SUV
We've owned this since 1986, and have had NO problems other than regular maintenance -- it's what we've come to expect from Toyotas. Have since also purchased a 2000 Honda CRV, and the RAV is twice as peppy! I've only driven small 4 cyl cars, and this has the most pep of them all; it's not a 6cyl, though, and shouldn't be thought of as such. Front wheel drive does fine in bad weather. Easy to park, good turning radius.
In a Relationship
I love this vehicle. 295,000 miles on my 1996 and still purring. I have to put oil in it almost weekly but a small sacrifice to drive this beast. I expect it to run another 100,000. Starts up beautifully but a little rough on the road, to be expected with so many miles. I want to buy another one when this finally gives up on me and hope to find one just like her with low miles.
