Not really 14.5 gal fuel tank!

I purchased the Rav mainly for the milage range. It's advertised- 40+mpg with a 14.5 tank should take me well over 500 miles before needing to stop for gas, which sounded great and the reason I ended up buying the car. SO, when the Rav got down to E and I went to fuel up it only took 8-9 gallons !? After a couple fill-ups I took it to Toyota and asked what was going on. They said the most fuel the 14.5 gal tank will ever hold is about 12 gal. The car will show empty at when it's down to about 2 gal reserve, so really you're driving on around 10 gallons. I feel like this is FALSE ADVERTISING!!! They should not say it has a 14.5 gallon fuel tank if the most it will ever take is 12 gallons and the car is telling you to stop for gas every 10 gallons.

My wife wrecked the Prius. We had it for 104000 miles and not a single problem. Thus we got the Rav 4 hybrid. Did a big trip from southington Ct to fort Kent Maine. Got 41 mpg one leg of trip, 42 rest of trip and 38 on way home. Keep in mind, it was mostly highways and north of Bangor, speed limit is 75, I was doing 80. Rest of it is around 50 mph, but up and down steep hills. Exactly the place you do not want to drive a hybrid. This was calculated by dividing the gallons into the milage on the odometer., not the meter on the dashboard. Love the power lumbar in drivers seat and adaptable cruise control. Love the styling. We looked at the CRV which I thought was kinda stupid looking. It was less pricy Nd had better financing options. But I have been reading about the gas dilution issues, in addition I don’t like CVT transmissions and turbos, which CRV has both of them. They are prone to failure and costly to repair. The RAV 4 has a CVT, but Toyota has Been making hybrids for over 22 years and this design has proven to to be extremely reliable. In fact, A leading consumer products magazine states it is more reliable than a conventional car. Google “most reliable cars” and you will see for yourself. I do however have 1 dislike. The gas gauge does not go all the way to full. When I fill up it takes only 9 1/2 gallons. In one way, this is a pleasant surprise when the odometer shows you have travelled 420 miles. On the other hand, it is more fillip stops. Also, when the low fuel warning goes off, you can no longer see your mpg on the dashboard. Does this mean there is 5 gallons left after low fuel goes off? Or does it mean less than a gallon

About a month ago I would have encouraged all of your consumers to purchase a 2019 Rav4 Hybrid....however while although these cars appeared to be awesome, they have a SERIOUS flaw. Read Rav4 forums online, many owners including myself are experiencing fueling issues. The new Hybrid model will not fill up to the fuel mark and will only fill to a little passed the 3/4 mark therefore making it so you are not able to get maximum range out of each tank. You still get your 41 mpg, but your limited as to how far you can travel without filling up. There hasn’t been a service bulletin or recall but Toyota says they are aware of it being widespread problem with the new Hybrid models and are “working on a fix” In the meantime I am driving around my $40,000 XSE and filling up a lot more often than I should be which is in stark contrast to how Toyota markets the new Hybrid Rav4.

Happening to me, too. Known issue for 2019 and 2020 RAV4 Hybrid models of which Toyota doesn't tell buyers. Gas tank won't fill up all the way, you won't get the advertised 580 miles per tankful, only accepts about 10-11 gallons vs the 14.5 capacity, you never know really how much gas or mileage you have. Annoying, yes. Toyota just thinks it's a nuisance vs safety issue. Defective gas tank could be causing increased pressure and other non-desirable things inside the tank compromising the life of other parts, and leading to costly repairs down the road when it's out of warranty. They need to do the right thing and recall/fix, and extend the warranty or buy the cars back. UPDATE: Toyota sent a letter about a year after I bought it saying they would fix the fuel tank issue under some sort of Customer Support Program (not a recall). It's been almost two years, never heard anything from Toyota, but have been asking local dealer to fix. They did "have the parts" and they fixed it. Fuel tank needle now goes to full (actually beyond full line), and seems to accept more gas.

Bought a RAV 4 Hybrid in June love the mileage and acceleration. Two weeks into ownership my Phone rings but people can't hear me. GPS also stops. Worked fine when I bought it. Brought it back and the salesman tells me my android phone is too old. Thought that was BS but went to Verizon and tried a new phone same problem. Back to dealer service says radio won't update and they'll order me a new one. After getting the correct radio after two tries they install new radio and it also has same problem. Brought it back a week later so Toyota corporate wizards could fix it. They failed. Dealership is now telling me that they "Toyota" hasn't been able to come up with a solution yet. 4000 miles and 3 months later I'm having to use my $60 GPS and hands on phone. That's what I was using in my 2007 Honda Accord. Very disappointed with Toyota it appears to me that the engineers aren't up to the engineering. Back in the 70's their service made their reputation. Glad I purchased the 100k warranty on this one.
