Used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Consumer Reviews
Just bought it. Overall very impressed.
I bought the XLE Hybrid. Although I thought the Adventure styling was much better, the drivetrain and mpg of the hybrid won me over. Sad the styling is more bland than the Advenutre, but ultimately it’s a better car if you’re not as interested in style. 40 mpg on this thing is incredible, and so far I’ve been even more impressed with handling and acceleration since I started stretching its legs on the freeway. It’s a great car so far, and happy I chose it over the loud engine on the gas-only one. It’s also peppier since it has more hp. Get they hybrid. You won’t be disappointed. Update on 11/11/21: Overall mpg is closer to 37-38 in real-world driving. I have nearly 70k miles on it and everything is working like a charm. Just a few minor rattles in the wind that were not there when it was purchased. Update 12/15/22: Still really good. Getting 38 mpg. Did have a wheel bearing go out around 80k miles. And had to have the gas tank replaced as part of a recall and known issue. Update 5/26/23: 117k miles and no additional issues. Runs like the day I bought it. I traded it for a BMW and, no joke, bought it back 5 days later because I missed it and I subsequently sold the BMW at a loss. I have new tires for it and the traction on the AWD is incredible. Update 12/4/23: No issues since last update. At 135k miles. Update 6/10/24 (at 5 years): No issues since last update. At 142k miles.

Awesome Vehicle But...
This is simply one of the best vehicles I've owned over the last 50 years. After driving our first road trip I finally noticed the problem others have mentioned regarding the lack of the ability to fill a 14.5 gallon gas tank. You can only cram about 9 gallons into the Hybrid. Checking the Toyota forums I now see that Toyota will buy the cars back No questions asked. I don't know why they are doing this rather than fixing the problem. I don't want to sell mine back to Toyota but on the other hand am I going to lose more depreciation because of the fault?

Gas gauge and fuel tank issues
Gas gauge and fuel tank issues My 2019 RAV4 hybrid has a problem with the gas tank it’s a 14.5 gallon tank but I can only get up to 10 gallons of gas in it so there’s 4 1/2 gallons of gas that won’t go into the tank for some reason so the fuel gauge never shows full. This car should get almost 600 miles on a full tank of gas from what Toyota says but my car will only read 370-380 miles to empty. Because the tank will not fill up to 14.5 gallons and there’s no fix for it that’s the way the car came brand new off the lot. Toyota knows about this problem yet nobody told me about it when I purchased it if they did I would’ve never bought the car I would’ve never thought twice. Now I’m waiting for Toyota company to call me back to see where we go from here and I know I’m not the only one with this issue.

Rampant manufacturer defect - cannot fill tank
Dealerships are still attempting to deny the rampant issue which prevents you from filling the gas tank past the 3/4ths mark. Search the web for complaints and you'll see that they are ubiquitous

If only it took more than 5 gallons
I love everything about my top of the line, all the bells and whistles Limited. Except that the first time I filled it up, it only took 3 gallons. I reported it to the dealer, who said there was no issue. Later I found that I could get between 3-5.2 gallons of fuel in it. Eventually their field services rep simply indicated I was exaggerating, that a minor issue kept perhaps a gallon from going into the tank. At this point, months after complaining and requesting a buyback, and Toyota being mum on the issue, I’m flabbergasted that they will make me pay a lawyer to resolve the issue. Got my first Toyota in 1979 - they are losing a lifelong customer. Update January 2023: after multiple attempted fixes, the vehicle now takes 10 gallons (of the 15 it should), gets 28 mpg (of the advertised 38-40), and the fuel gauge doesn't work. Toyota tells me they can't fix any of this, nor that it "effects the usability or value" of the vehicle so have no obligation to. So, no more Toyotas for me!
