My 2019 RAV4 Hybrid is smooth and gets great 40 MPG mileage. But having an irritating problem with fuel tank. When gas gauge shows “Empty”, can only put 9 to 9.5 gallons in tank before it shuts gas station pump off. It is 14.5 Gal capacity tank, so 9 to 10 gal is very short! Frustrating because I bought car due to good mileage PLUS extended driving range of 550+ miles. Only getting 350-400 miles between fills. Have reported it to Toyota, with no solution yet

Get the word out! Toyota Rav4 Fuel Tank Trouble

Update July 2021: Toyota issued a repair notice for the fuel tank issue and we brought the vehicle back to the original dealer for the "fix". Our vehicle had both the fuel sending unit and tank replaced. After several months of driving and re-fuels there has been improvement, but the issue is not fixed! We now average a little more than one (1) additional gallon in the tank. From 9.8 gallons maximum originally to a one time 11.5 gallons maximum to date. A usual fuel up after the warning light comes on and about 40 miles shown remaining, typically is in the 11 gallon range +/-. Still well short of the 15 gallons listed capacity. We will be taking the car back for additional repair. Disappointing. Original review: We have the Limited edition and were very satisfied with the vehicle. We have been asked many times by friends and strangers if we like the car. Before today it was an enthusiastic yes - great vehicle! All of the accolades are well deserved. HOWEVER, as of today, I would warn every potential buyer to do their homework and confirm the following question in writing with Toyota and the dealer BEFORE signing the deal: Is the fuel tank capacity 14.5 gallons and can you put in the fuel to the capacity? Our vehicle will only take about 9.8 gallons. This is an issue that many other RAV4 owners are experiencing (search the issue) and Toyota has done nothing to date to resolve and/or acknowledge the issue outright. Due to this defect the maximum driving range is now reduced from 500+ miles to about 370 miles before empty. This is over a 25% reduction in range from the advertised product. There is no confirmation to how many vehicles are experiencing the issue, but Toyota is not coming out in the open that there is an issue with the RAV4 fuel tank design. Get the word out and do your research. Buyer beware.

My husband just got the 2019 RAV 4 Hybrid and I did not accompany him when the purchase was made. We have kids in 2 different states and was planning to make this our travel car. WRONG! We only drove an hour away tonight and I was miserable. The seat base is short and there is no way to adjust it to make it more comfortable. Seats in Hyundai Santa Fe are MUCH better. Very disappointed
