Bought my wife a Prius. Loved it. Headlight burned out. $400. Second headlight burned out, $400 Third headlight burned out, another $400. Traded it in for a new one three years later. Asked salesman and Hoover Birmingham, Alabama dealership manager had they solved the Prius headlight problem...YES! Warrenty just expired...guess what?..Headlight burned out..$400 So I drive 30,000 miles at 50 MPG at $2.00 per equals 600 gallons. Cost $1200. Total gas savings for 30,000 miles ZERO. Spent $1200 on headlights. Prius not worth the gas savings if repair costs are more than gas savings
I am back. Guess what. Another headlight out this month. 4/16 do not buy a Prius unless you get a dealer 5 year warrenty on headlights. Un-real

After my neighbor who owns a 2007 Prius took us to the airport with 286,000 miles on his Prius with no problems....and....going to Sydney, Australia where there are many Prius cabs, every one we took had at least 300,000 km on it...we decided to just put new Michelins and safety equipment on ours which only has 33,000 miles on it...and keep it at least a couple years more. Now August 3rd ....same status....the car is just great with 35,000 miles... Looked at the 2020 Prius BUT TOYOTA goofed...made it longer...the 175 inches for my 2015 is the max I can put in my small garage....SO this Prius will last probably another 10 years or so.

The car is a dream come true: averages 49 MPG, perfect highway cruiser -- smooth, quiet, very responsive handling, stately iconic styling, large rear seat with excellent leg room, GPS and etc., great HVAC, very well equipped to meet all of our needs, and then some! Kept in heated garage. Very dependable. Perfect.

Update: have had the Prius for about a year and a half and still find it,to be great. We've put 21,000 miles on in between local driving and going to Ohio and Wisconsin at least a had dozen times from South Carolina. Not a complaint as it is so with any vehicle going up and down the hills and mountains affects both acceleration and maintaining a consistent speed even with cruise control. As well, mileage suffers but again, that would be so,with any vehicle. Nevertheless, we still get 40-45 mpg on those trips...roughly tank and a half for 700 mile trip....can't do,that with our Honda Odyssey minivan! Update 11/10/17: we have now had our Prius two years and still no complaints. In fact, earlier this year we drove to Ohio (nearly 700 miles one way) and dsepite going through a portion of the Great Smoky Mountains on Interstate 40 (up and down, lots of twists and turns) we averaged 50 miles per gallon for our entire trip. And this week I had to be in Atlanta for business, drove nearly 800 miles total and left with a half tank of gas filled up once on the way and once returning and still have about a half tank left. Update 11/14/19: still very pleased with our Prius in every respect. Earlier this year did a trip to Dallas and from ther Cincinnati and mileage was super, ride was comfortable.
