Used 2010 Toyota Prius Consumer Reviews
One Year Synopsis
I have driven all sorts of trips over the past year from long, 9hr cross- country trips to cross-town trips. The car performed well in each scenario. It does live up to its rated gas mileage (I get 50-55 MPG in town and 46-50 MPG on the road). I have noticed squeal in HI fan mode and an annoying squeak on bumpy roads. It could a little better lumbar support on those long trips. But the most annoying thing Toyota has to fix is the blind spots. This car is built so aerodynamically that it is like a cockpit. The only good visibility is straight ahead. The headrests block views, the extreme slope back window does too, even the rear view mirror obstructs views. Good A/C. Heat takes while.
Instrument panel display problems
Seats are very uncomfortable. For a short person the headrests do not fit properly and cannot be adjusted. They obstruct rear view. Main problem is the instrument display fades out in sunlight and very difficult to see. Cannot wear polarized sunglasses. The display is LCD and polarized making it incompatible. Non polarized sun glasses did not offer any significant improvement. I am returning this car. It is not safe for me to drive.

After 1 year
Have not had any problems. great mpg 52-44. plenty of cargo space. very firm ride. transmission and no drive belts are my favorites. read and reread owners manual.
2010 better than expected
Measured MPG: 67 MPG@ 50 mph; 62 MPG@ 60 mph; 55 MPG@ 65 mph; 52 MPG@ 70 mph; 49 MPG@ 75 mph; 39 MPG@ 80 mph. Very quiet with plenty of power; huge interior space; the best car we've ever owned. Comfort, quality, and affordable, we are very happy. It replaced a 2001 Echo and shares driveway space with a 2003 Prius and 1993 Coachman RV. Unlike the Honda Insight, I don't bang my head getting in and feel like I'm in a coffin. Unlike the Jetta TDI, the Prius automatic city mileage is better than 65 MPG. Try city driving in a Jetta TDI automatic if you like buying a lot of fuel.
Follow up
Follow up on first review since now have logged 1000 miles. My wife has a 2 mile commute and on her first tank received 48mpg. I took over on the second tank of gas commuting 34 miles a day. I've received 58 mpg average covering 410 miles while still having 1/4 tank left. We've discovered this car is not built for short trips. Premium gas has made a difference in performance and mpg- buy octane 92+. Having navigation has been a huge positive. Back-up camera comes with navigation which is worth the extra $1800. First Toyota purchase and first hybrid experience. My wife and I are sold on both!
