Think Twice 2010 Prius

2010 Toyota Prius IV 4dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

I have 4 Toyotas all purchased from Westbury Toyota. All was good until I began to experience brake issues on my brand new 2010 Prius. The dealer's service was horrible, and they denied there was a problem. Eventually a recall for the non existent problem, and after the recall the braking on the car is less reliable then before, they say that's the way all the 2010 Prius' are.

I have been a Pick-up man for 20 years. When my mechanic told me the cost of repair was more then the value of the truck we went directly to Toyta for a Prius. I am a big guy so I was looking for plenty of room (has plenty for my family of 4), a good stereo (the JBL rocks) and 50mpg (it has exceeded the advertised number for the first two tanks!!).

I have had my 2010 prius for 10 days, and it has exceeded my expectations. First tank of gas 53.0 mpg, computer, 51.3, manual calc., in mix of highway and D.C. crawl. Prius is quiet and handles great. I actually enjoy my 85 mile commute. I love all the displays and gadgets. You become very involved in your driving. A great car, plus 50 mpg. You just cannot beat it.

More than just great gas mileage

This is my first hybrid car. I expected great mileage but an unexciting car with limited power and many compromises. Was I wrong. While power is nothing to brag about this engine responds to all driving situations. It does roar when really pushed, but in ordinary driving there is minimal engine and road noise. Comfort is decent and it feels like a bigger car than it really is. Functionality is great with the hatchback and folding rear seats. The first 3 fill ups yielded 42, 45 and 50 mpg's. I was told that mileage will improve and it has so far. The navigation system, back up camera and bluetooth are great. The Prius III does not come with homelink, but the dealer added it for us.

A little spaceship

I just bought my Prius last week and I love it. I was concerned about going from a BMW Z4 sports car but I quickly got over that. The Prius is a fun, solid, practical car. I'm enjoying how absolutely different and modern it is. It's like driving a cool, little spaceship. I may have sacrificed a bit (OK, a lot) of power and performance but that's more than compensated by the mileage and clever design of the Prius. And I'm surprised at how zippy it is. Of course tracking MPG real time is a disincentive from flooring it but when the power is needed it's certainly there.
