SAFE AND SPORTY
THE CAR IS GREAT TO HANDLE AND A GREAT VEHICLE TO TAKE AROUND IF YOU NEED SPACE AND COMFORT. I TAKE MY MATRIX WITH ME EVERY WEEKEND TO THE BEACH ABOUT 100 MILES FROM WHERE I LIVE. IT HAS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR MY 9 FOOT 9 SURFBOARD AND 2 FRIENDS.
toyota quality...lol
After 5 months with our new matrix xrs, we've had it into the dealer one week for a new clutch (fell apart), and another week for a new rear main seal (leaking). The buzzing noise coming from behind the dash area is very annoying. With the new clutch, it now shudders upon takeoff. Our first experience with a Toyota may very well be our last. After driving a Ford Taurus SHO for 10 years, believe me when I talk about clutch replacements.
CAN'T PASS
CAR CANNOT PASS ON A HILL. SPORATICALLY IT WILL OR WILL NOT GO INTO PASSING GEAR. NOT GREAT GETTING ONTO A HIGHWAY SINCE THE PICKUP IS SO POOR THAT YOU ARE IN AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. pOOR RADIO TOTAL UNCLEAR BASS.
Love it!
Great car, all I hoped for!

I was willing to sacrifive perormance...
For efficiency. But arguably the Matrix has neither. Not only do I miss the torque of a 6- cylinder, but I miss the range of a larger gas tank. I am averaging only 31 miles per gallon and 325 miles per tank. The Matrix is stripped down to a price point. The fact that no cargo mat is provided, doesn't mean that one isn't needed. I have carried the usual items in the rear--skis, tools, groceries-- but it is clear that Toyota did not design the cargo area for wear and tear. The lack of an integrated roof rack is disappointing since the cargo area is so flimsy.
