A good value

This car is a step up from my old Honda Accord in terms of comfort, safety, noise, and handling. Very good construction & interior quality in addition to numerous safety features. So far, it's everything I expected in a Toyota.

Really bad blind spot and poor gas mileage

M.O., 01/17/2019

When turning left, there is a really bad blind spot due to the large roof support column and large driver side mirror. It's particularly troublesome at night. To compensate somewhat, the shorter driver (5'4") has to drive with the seat particularly high, which causes her to have to duck her head when getting into the vehicle. Additionally, the window sticker and published mileage for the vehicle said 21 city / 27 highway, which is why we purchased it. Our experience after driving it for 2000 miles, including a long highway trip, is that we get 20.8 in the city and 20.8 on the highway. We read an article on-line that says the mileage continues to get better as you approach 5000-7000 miles of use--we'll see.

Comfortable, quiet

We had a RAV4 for 3 years, but it was a bit small and "tinny" (noise level too high). So we upgraded to the Highlander. Great car but disappointed in the confusing electronics. For example, I like to use the "Trip A and Trip B" settings. These are very awkward to access on this car. In the past, we have owned a VW Passat (1999-2005), an Acura MDX (2005-2015), a RAV4 (2015-2018), and now the Highlander. The previous 3 vehicles we owned had far better, more intuitive information systems. Otherwise, we love the car.

Traded up from a FWD 2016

The SE is slightly sportier in handling, but, the 19 inch wheel/tire combo is actually better than my 2016's 18 inch wheel/tire combo. So glad I tested the 2018 8-speed AWD...now, I can use the power the engine has. With FWD, the inside tire would spin during anything other than a straight takeoff. The 8-speed allows the AWD to keep the same MPG as my 6-speed 2016 FWD. Couldn't be happier! Update: 9 months later, still thrilled I bought this one over the FWD.

Test drive other SUVs and do your homework. Find a dealer you like. After 9 years with the same dealer we went to another. Best decision ever.
