Approaching 100,00 miles - not great

Up until this point, we had a couple major issues and now began to have everything break as we near 100,000 miles. The lift gate and ball joints failed around 60,000. The alternator failed around 85,000. I’m very surprised by this as I did not experience any need for major repairs in my Camry, even still and it now has over 150,000 miles. At 95,000 mile we now have a $6,000 axil related repair being worked on in the front end. Thank God for the warranty we purchased. It saved us $10k out of pocket in repairs. As soon as it expires, we are done with this car!

Questionable quality I have the 2014 XLE model. Mechanically she has not been a problem but there are some little quirks that Toyota never figured out. The navigation performs poorly, my sunroof never closed properly and the hinges on the rear cargo door were constantly leaking grease. If the back-and-forth with Toyota they finally replaced the hinges however they are leaking once again. What I buy another Toyota? Probably not at this point.

I have the highest level and certain things are great. The interior is nice and the electronic mirror warnings etc are great. What is bad? Well two major items and one minor. The liftgate struts are under strength. I had to have those replaced and the dealer put in new ones that were twice as large as the originals. Defect by Toyota but still cost me about 2,000. Second really major item it the variable valve intake gears on the cams go out at around 150,000. It's design flaw. You will hear what sounds like can full of marbles on start up. because it can drop metal into your pan you have the option of replacing them for about 5k or a rebuilt engine for about 12 k. I opted for the rebuilt engine. The third thing is Toyota navigation is horrible. If you are in a major city its ok but if you live in a rural area it is not good. It misdirects you. My wife always loved toyota for it's reliability but I can tell you that reliability isn't what it used to be and Toyota will charge you for the repairs needed when their design was bad.
