2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited 4dr SUV AWD (3.3L 6cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

We bought the Highlander Hybrid at the end of September 2005 and now have 5000 miles on it. Rides like a car, incredible power, very roomy, and environmentally friendly. As noted in other reviews, the gas mileage is not quite what is advertised, because most people who buy an SUV are not using it in real city driving. The gas engine kicks in very quickly when accelerating. Real world mileage is 24- 26 mpg combined, likely less if most of your driving is on the highway at 70 mph and more if you are in a true bumper-to-bumper city. This model is in such demand that you must pay full sticker. Our dealer wanted $2700 for the DVD navigation system, we passed.

Great...would have been better w/4 Cyl

Delightful. Overall, it is the best seven seat vehicle out there. Good comfort, quality, and 'driveability'. I get about 23 MPG hwy, 35 MPG city though you can do better on the HWY by going slower. The car is great to drive on the freeway and ideal in the city but not so good on twisty roads. In fact my chief complaint is that the acceleration and braking so dramatically outperform the suspension... there is no reason for 268 HP in a car this tipsy. They should have gone with the Highlander/Camry 4 cyl, hybridized the performance up to the 6 cyl, and delivered better mileage (like the Prius).

New Owner and I love it!

I've had my Highlander for two weeks and I love it. It really takes off when you accelerate and climbs hills with ease. I love the "buzz" factor too. A lot of people are curious about hybrid cars now and its fun to be on the "cutting edge" of a new technology. I had a Camry for 13 years and getting this new car has been a big thrill. The small features like extra cupholders, power outlets and cargo cover show the thought that went into the design of this vehicle. The informational dash read-out that shows the power source (gas or electric) is also well planned because it explains the new sounds you hear when the power train shifts from gas to electric or both. Bravo Toyota! I love it!

Took delivery of a Limited AWD Hybird edition on 7/20. Sold the 2003 Highlander LTD to a family member. New 2006 has even better ride qualities with the Michelin tires vs Bridgestone Duelers. The shift between electric power and gas is seamless. It takes a little getting used to when you stop at a traffic light and realize the engine did not stall. You hear virtually nothing. Have averaged 30MPG city driving. Although this is relatively new technology it's comforting to know that Toyota gives you an 8 yr 100,000 mile warranty on the hybird system. I would rate this vehicle, in the short period of ownership, one of the very best SUVs we've ever owned including Jeeps and a BMW X5.

Little "excitement" for Interior needed

Everything is GREAT w/ Highlander Hybrid! I chose Highlander because of its fuel efficiency (which they talk about, and maybe I can come close to WHEN I learnt how I should drive this particular car w/ at most efficiency) The only donw part of this car is Camry-like interior. There's nothing that excite me about Highlander interior. Top of line model is just about the same so I went for non-Limited one. In general, I love this ride and I feel/know that I made a great choice!
