Buy One!!
Bought this corolla 1 yr. ago for a daily commuter. It has been an awesome car. I put 25,000 miles on it with no problems. It is comfortable and fun to drive. The car has 100k, and it drives like new, still very tight. I expect to be able to drive this to 300k.
the best car ever
almost 40,000 miles. No problems, nothing. I bought new tires because had a flat. interior light burned out because i left it on all day. She still started. if i could change anything, it would be a trunk light. sometimes you really need it. i would like to upgrade to a bigger toyota, because it does sit low to the ground. hard when your getting up in age. i could never sell her. i want to give her to my step-son. 30 miles per gallon.
My Corolla Rocks!
My corolla has been a delight. As a single mother on a budget, reliability is everything and this car delivers. It's cute and fun, roomy and gets great gas mileage. It's door design is perfect for getting my son in and out of his car seat and there's tons of trunk space. It's made me a Toyotta owner for life!
great car
the best 2500 iever spent got it from a honda dealer needed a clutch so i guess i stole it for 2500 out the door. i drive it to kill it but it keeps up. strong 1.8 fast and econimical. handles great in all weather. change the oil and go and regular gas is even better. 5 speed fun to drive.
Great Car
I have had my car for 5 years now and just bought it at lease-end. I love it. It now has almost 75k miles on it and I have never had to fix anything. I considered buying another car at the end of the lease but I was afraid that not another car would live up to it, so I bought it out instead. This car may not look that exciting but the pick up is exceptional.
Hey, its a Toyota
Extremely reliable, suprisingly peppy in the 5 spd. model. The factory sound system has yet to let me down and by and large this is a very low maintenance vehicle. What it lacks in style, it more than makes up for in reliability. If you never want to worry about your kids breaking down in the middle of nowhere, this is the car for you!
Yup
This car is very good for driving distances. The gas mileage, I am happy with. The handling is pretty good. The only drawback, really, is the pick-up. The car does not accelerate quickly. That is really the only thing I would change. Its a great "school" care and one that will last you for a long time. I put about 22,000 miles since I got it in 2003 and have not (knock on wood) had any problems with it. Its a great car for the price. They could (which I think they did for 2007) make it a little sportier, for us young adults. Overall, don't pass it up for at least a test drive. The compartments and layout of the digits and the dashboard are great.
Excellent commuter
The Corolla has generally been a strong car. It's smooth, refined and suprisingly quick. The fuel economy is outstanding, over 37 mpg on the highway with an automatic. The interior is comfortable, although rear legroom is an issue. The feature list is . . . odd. This is probably due to the practice of adding packages, but my wife often chides me for having a car with power doors and windows, cruise, a/c, alarm and keyless entry, but no tachometer or power mirrors. The cruise control stalk occasionally brushes my knee during low speed turns, but this isn't dangerous. Taller drivers may encounter this problem.
Super Reliable Transportation
I've owned my 99 Corolla LE for 4 years now and am now thinking of trading it in. This car has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Even on -10 degree days it starts up exactly like it was 75 degrees in July - instantly. My biggest complaint is that the car feels like it gets tossed around by bumps a little too easily. But this is probably a result of being a small car more than anything else.
Great car!
This is my second Corolla, and wouldn't buy anything but a Toyota. These cars are extremely reliable. With just under 100000 miles, I've only had to change my starter, and that was a few months ago.
Most reliable car I've ever had!
There's nothing fun or flashy about this car... but it holds up so well you don't care about that. I had the original brakes replaced at 115,000 miles and there was still plenty left on them. This car has been through hot and cold weather and never a problem. If you want reliability, get this car.
1999 Corolla, Wifes choice.
We were looking for a new vehicle in 1999. My wife suggested the corolla because her sister had a 1997 model. We looked at Ford, Chevys and Chyslers, but decided on the corolla. We only drive approximately 7500 miles per year and have had zero problems with the car, except for a dead battery. Just one minor crash into a wall, but it held up well. (The wife did it.)
So far so good
We recently sold our '94 GSR Integra (170hp VTEC), & bought this '99 LE Corolla. Performance wise, it's no match to the GSR, but overall driveability is fine and ride is firm. The rear seat room seemed a little tight. Per the spec in Edmundsin comparing rear leg room between my old GSR and the Corolla, the Toyota should have an additional 1" of leg room, but that does not seem to be the case as my 3 year old in her car seat is always kicking me. This is after I try to adjust the angle and distance that I would normally sit. Just something to think about if you have small kids that needs to be in t
Reliable
Owned the car for 6 years. The kind that you just fill with gas and drive, no need to ever open the hood. The stick feels as firm and smooth as in the day I bought it. Mid life crisis determines me to look for a flashier car. I wish I found a better reason to sell. Really feeling guilty about it. I can only hope that those tempting Acura's will be at least as dependable.
Best car I've ever owned
My 1999 Corolla just hit 100,000 mles. The only repair I have ever had was a tail light bulb. Clearly, the best car I've ever owned. I drive it everywhere at almost 40 mpg and never have a doubt that it won't get me back home. Thanks Toyota!!
can't go wrong
Bought mine as a left over in early 2000 -- somebody had returned it with about 2,000 miles logged and traded up. Has nearly all the options except (alas) ABS. It now has close to 80k miles on it and nothing has ever broken. I love this car, and it has convinced me that when the time comes that I have to pry myself away from it, only another Toyota (Lexus/Scion) product will do.
Love my Corolla
I purchased my Corolla two and a half years ago with 67,000 miles on it. It is my first car. Up to this point I could not be happier with my purchase. On the road the Corolla is very easy to drive and feels stable at all speeds. The ride for the most part is comfortable except when driving over large bumps or uneven road surfaces. The gas mileage is terrific. I routinely average 29mpg in city driving with the automatic transmission. The interior of the Corolla is nice too. The materials are high quality and the controls are very simple, I would even say too simple. The cabin is usually quite except for an annoying rattleling noise that comes from within the center console.
Not Bad
hey everyone. my mom has this car in an automatic and im always complaining because it is too slow and not sporty enough but overall this car is pretty fun to drive. i have a lead foot all the time and love racing other people even though i usually loose, but i have one a few as well. this car sounds alright at high rpm. great family car and everyday driver. stereo wasnt bad untill i blew out 1 of our rear speakers. nice handling and overall good car.
Extremely Fun to Drive
Ive had only two problems after two years. One was with the belt tensioner, and the other, some very faint rattles from revving the engine so high all the time. Replaced tensioner myself. I HIGHLY recommend replacing stock tires with P185/65R14 Yokohama Avid Tourings. Stock suspension is inadequately stiff, but fine for average driving. Acceleration is absolutely wonderful. I've smoked F150's, SUVs, cocky modified Civics and even a Mustang (not GTS). All in all, a very nice car.

Pretty good reliable car
I was very much enjoying my little Toyota. It got pretty good gas mileage and didn't need much maintenance. My car was totaled, so I don't get to drive it anymore. I think if you get one low mileage you can drive the wheels off of it! The only complaint is that back seat space is tight.
My Super XE
My stepdaughter bought it from the original owner. She had it for a bit then my daughter came of age and it was passed down to her. I always knew that I would end up with it so I never minded the maintenance needs that would arise; new tires, headlights, etc. Now that it is mine I can’t believe how much I love it! Especially VE wheels. I see so many Rollas out there missing a hub cap. These cars are underrated. I replaced the rack and pinion and the struts and now it drives like a European sports car. I had a rust spot fixed on the roof and had them install antique “super badges on the fenders. I’m having fun making it sporty and unique. I’m customizing the interior with leather work that I’m doing myself. It’s fun and rewarding and a surprise really because i didn’t realize how wonderful these cars are.

Beauty in the eyes of the beholder
I bought my 1999 Corolla VE out of desperation. Needed something to replace my 1993 Accord with almost 300K miles (no kidding). I wish I would have taken my time, because I'm not loco for this car. It is too basic. I bought it in Nov. 2007 with 76K miles for $9K! I felt it was too much, but OMG it was a Toyota. Quality this, quality that. Yeah, this car can take a beating, and still run its little sluggish heart. But it is ugly in the back LOL! It looks mad as hell in the back with it's squinting eye taillight design LOL! It's probably mad that it can't perform worth words I cannot say at church. If ANYTHING, get an LE model and not the VE, at least you can have power everything. VERY LEAST!
Wow you can't kill it
250,000 miles and never have replaced anything except tires. If you want a car that lasts mechanically this is your car. I am not easy on cars and this one has never left me stranded, whether on long trips or 100 mph for half an hour. Worth its weight in gold.
Good
Engine makes valve noise start in the morning. Dealer told me it is normal.

Best little car ever made!!!!
Let me start by saying this little car is a beast passes brand new car's on the freeway that;s why I named this 1999 Corolla Dusty see I feel these older cars were made with better quality that last if a part goes out with Toyota you replace it and that same part can possibly run another 100,000 miles newer cars it's to much electronic's now which costs thousand's for sensor repairs. I bought mine from a junk yard in 2011 and it's 2025 it's a state salvaged car that i bought from a junk yard I did put a new engine in it, in 2011 but it's the original transmission. 99 Corolla has fast pickup getting on the freeway and maintains same speed as the brand new cars on highway. Maintenance is the key watch the Youtube videos DIY I change my own oil on the car drain the transmission fluid, I change the spark plugs, I changed the starter, tire rotations, drain and refill the radiator fluid, change brake pads, if everyone does just these simple things this car will run you like the 14 years I've had it and it's still going strong, let me tell you it's taken me to Burney Falls where the 150 feet waterfall flows a must see and yesterday to Bodega Bay I live in California so it's a very good out of town car just make sure you do your maintenance. Oh and before you go out of town make sure you have a new battery and check your alternator, the starter, alternator and battery all work together with the electrical system on this car if one starts to fail all (3) components will start to act up so just replace all (3) of them if you have high mileage otherwise you will have to examine one by one which is the problem, So maintenance is the key with this car. Now, in 2025 I will say sadly people are not obeying the speed limits and driving beyond 90 miles per hour on the freeway and aren't valuing life. This car will keep with them but here is my advice it's an older car with less safety features so you have to take that into consideration that's my only con to EVERYONE the speed limit here in Californian is 65 mph, I do 60 mph for safety 5 miles under. Also if you don't want to do 80 mph and above you have to stay in the left lane in California the right lane is for the fast drivers. So the 99 Corolla is absolutely amazing car to experience in anyone's lifetime because you have beautiful life journeys with this car you will always remember but people are driving to fast these days. I constantly have to pull over on roads to let them pass because this is an older vehicle in excellent condition mechanically but lacks abundant safety features their cars have and in an accident the 99 would fair badly at the rate of speed people are driving these days and they know that and take advantage. So my advice the 99 Corolla is super fast my motor was built in Japan so I would not advice a parent to put a teenager in this car it will reach 90mph without hesitation it's the safety features it lack, put them in a 2016 or above Corolla the 99 is for older people like me in their 40's that drive safer through from life experiences and catch other driver's errors to avoid and accident. So to everyone yes buy the 99 Corolla but keep up on maintenance and drive safe and slower please, I also own a 2006 that I bought brand new back in 2006 it's my baby to runs like a champ. Best wishes to all
