I am happy with my 1992 Toyota Celica Convertible. The car runs like a champ at 180000 miles with no major problems. In addition, the seats are extremely comfortable when doing long trips.

This is a fun, reliable, economical car. It has good performance, excellent braking, handling and outstanding Toyota reliability. I love this car and am planning to keep it forever :) This is my fun car and I keep it in the garage and don't drive it when the weather is bad. It is my baby and I keep it in great shape. A little red convertible.

I have had this automobile for eight years now, and it is an excellent car. I have had very few mechanical problems with it considering it now is 16 years old with 168 k miles. The major parts on the car are still running strong, even though this automobile was totaled in a flood (I found this out a few years after I bought it) (clutch, starter, radiator, battery, brakes, temperature fan switch, alternator, timing belt have all been replaced over the eight years I have owned it). All the parts replaced well outlived themselves. I feel confident this car could easily go over 250,000 miles with proper maintenance.

This is my daily. It's my only car. I'm writing this in August 2019. I bought her in 1995 with 31,000 miles. I figured I'd sell it at around 60 or 70K but I couldn't bring myself to selling it. I take a few trips to AZ a year from LA and she eats up those miles. I've had a new top put on, and a new paint job. She has 110K miles on her now. The 2.2 engine is a 5 speed manual and works smoothly. I have aftermarket wheels but I'm going to put on the Celica GT Coupe wheels that I have refurbished. The car is 27 years old and I don't see many 90-93 Celicas around, so people look. It's a classic now - but daily driven. It's true what they say about Toyotas. They just keep going. This model wont win any races but it will be around long after other cars near this date have gone to the crusher. Buy a Toyota they will last longer than any other brand.

I bought this car used from original owner. Now has 195k. Repairs have been normal (for a Toyota), far less repair than other cars I have owned. Painting was the biggest cost (or investment). About $7500 plus car rental while painting. It was a Factory Original Standard job- the kind that will last 16 years, like the original paint. You get what you pay for- and it looks like new. Inside is holding up great. I use Armor all regularly for cleaning / protecting. I use Michelin Pilot all season radials, very important. Sold new for 17,500, paid 9,500, 73k mi. in 1997. Replaced clutch & slave, radiator, water pump, A/C converted to new standard, bearings, a few bulbs. WARNING- High compression engine, direct front wheel drive, in slippery conditions is a very dangerous combination. To stay on the road and avoid a wreck, you CAN NOT TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR UNLESS YOU ARE IN NEUTRAL GEAR... Then tap or pump the brakes to slow down. Failure to do so will result in a 360 spin (It happened to me twice but at slow speed so no damage, just lucky). This fact about this car may be the reason I have never seen another one like it on the road in over 20 years. I believe most of these cars have been crashed because of bad slippery weather conditions. Other than this (flaw?) the car is very safe. Now I Know why many sports cars have REAR wheel drive. Overall rear wheel drive is safer I believe, though not as good in snow and ice. Front wheel drive is still better for snow and ice, and the new automatics with computer control on the throttle help to reduce the chance of 360's in bad weather. Bottom line, Know Your Car. Only sports cars with high compression engines have this problem. So know your car and test it in a parking lot in bad weather BEFORE you get caught driving in bad weather. Then you will be OK. BTW - MAX MPG premium gas- 40.2. City- 29.5 (in mountains). Great economy, if you use cruise control. (now 200036 miles, running like new)

Bought my convertible a little over 2 years ago, and it's needed nothing but regular routine maintenance (previous owner took great care of it - front struts, axles, tie rods, brakes were replaced before I bought it, and I don't drive it all that far in daily driving). The convertible is perfect for east Tennessee (south of Knoxville) as I can drop the top about 10 months out of 12. :) The only thing I'm looking at as being a major $$$ project is having the top either repaired or replaced - the car was "converted" in May of '92, and it's the original top... there are a couple of seams where the threads are starting to fray, but no leaks yet, thankfully. Only regret is the automatic tranny.

I've been driving this car for over two years now and it is still going strong with over 291K miles. I probably put in about $500 altogether in repairs within the past two years. It's a VERY reliable car. Just a little slippery in the snow. I would recommend a Toyota to Anyone!

Subaru WRX Who?

Toyota's 4WD turbocharged Celica was already pumping out 200hp stock and winning World Rally Championships in the early 90's when Subaru's were still being breast-fed. The extremely potent 3SGTE engine is still winning racing championships in Japan and Europe, where it is the 4-cyl. engine of choice for Toyota tuners. If you are lucky to own one, this powerful, rare and refined coupe will only increase in value. Sorry, but you cannot gauge this particular model's price based on Edmund's or Kelley's pricing. Try multiplying the configured price by at least a factor of 1.5, then start from there.

I have to comment up front, I have had Toyota's in the past and am a big fan. I bought this car as a "back-up" to my 01 MB. It is simply unbelievable when it comes to reliability. I put 18k on this car this past fall and winter with not one problem! This car especially exceeds at NJ highway speeds (75-85 mph). Frankly, I enjoy this body style over the newer Celica's. The car's "roundness" is great on those windy days, and the 32+ highway mpg helps when it comes to the $1.75 per gallon prices. The suspension is a little rough on bumpy roads, but this is a very minor inconvenience.

I bought my current All-Trac Celica Turbo brand new. It is still brand new. Well, I had to change the front wheel hubs and bearings, one caliper, the flex pipe, use only sythetic fluids. Always garaged. Great performance when you keep revs over 3000 rpm. I put in an oversized flex pipe(old one wore out), made the exhaust louder. Amazing. A/C never charged, still works like new. Stereo is still great after some parts in it were replaced by a QUITE reputable stereo repair place. I saw the car in all the magazines at the time, went for a test drive, and ordered it immediately. Thank you Toyota, I am a common man that owns an exotic.

I bought my '92 Celica from a private seller in 2017. She had 140,00. She is my daily driver, & is nothing short of fun, and reliability! Toyota really made some great machinery, & my Celica is a testament! She is now at 150,00 and running strong, oh,...and she looks badass!

I bought this car in 2003 with 117k miles on it. I never really had a major problem on it. I did my usual tune-up and had to repair both cv boots a few weeks ago... that's pretty much it. The performance is awesome considering the price I paid. Plus I install aftermarket air intake, full exhaust, and advanced the timing. The car is quick. It's very reliable considering its built by Toyota and plus it gets good gas mileage. I happy with the car.

Very reliable, good for commuting. Corners well, sporty, fun to drive. Looks great for being 10 years old! Don't expect to put a living person in the back seat though. And the RPM's get a bit high on the freeway. Overall great car for the price.

very reliable, only unexpected probelme was alternator failure at about 75k. some quirky problems, i.e. piston that operates roof sprung a leak. Mostly minor or midde level routine maintenace (replace wheel bearings, muffler, ect) have 196k on car and will drive it till it dies. Take care of car and it takes care of you. Annoying problem is vinyl roof which looses clarity and shape creates real blind spots. PS radio lights failed. to expensive to figure out why

Extremely reliable...I have driven it for 4 years with just tune ups. 101,000 miles on it, and runs just like new. Still looks stylish, and it is still fun to drive... Cons: Sits very low to the ground... almost impossible not to scrape the front underbelly. The plastic grill can easily break from this. Dings very easily around the bumper. If you don't like lowering yourself into a bucket seat that sits a couple feet off the ground, this is not the car for you. Seats only two comfortably. High RPMs on the freeway. (turn radio up to tune that out) However, if you want a reliable old car...this is the one.

I have owned this car for 12 years and I have had no major mechanical issues. The air conditioning has started to weaken and the tires are pretty expensive to replace. The car is a bit slow off the line but handles quite well. I have had some success with it on the track due to its handling capabilities.

I have had a vast range of automobiles from SAABS, Jaguar, Benz, BMW, plus, loads of American cars. This Celica GT ceases to amaze me as how well it is build. GREAT suspension...solid car...feels like a Benz. Fast yet great gas mileage. Never had to replace anything other than convert the air conditioning system over. VERY reliable car. Even bets out my BMW...325i for reliability. Fun to drive. With the right tires...it loves is incrediable in the curves. Wish a few US companies would build them like this. 12 years old and going STRONG.

Bought used w/9000 miles in '93 - two previous female owners. Driven daily for 9 years. A/C replaced on Toyota's nickel at about 60,000 mi. 2 Batteries, 8 tires, fluids, 3 lights, 2 power antennas (drat$!) - that's all I replaced! Never owned manual before - car reads my mind when shifting. Kudos to the engineers who designed it and the people who built it. Super solid, extremely reliable, got 123,000 probably another 90 to 120 thousand more to go.

My parents got me this car as a graduation gift. At first, I really didn't want it, but it has grown on me so much, that I fear I will never get rid of it. This car is just fun to drive. It is VERY solid and is made out of strong metal parts (which accounts for its weight). After 13 years ther are no squeaks or rattles. No doubt the car is sporty, fun and safe. Also I have only ever replaced the Alternator and light bulbs since I have owned it.

I have now owned my 1992 Celica GT for 5 months. It has 210,000 miles on it and shows no signs of slowing down. I had the timing belt replaced as a precaution and performed a tune up when I first bought the car. No other work has been neccessary on the car except for several oil changes. I like to baby this car and have made several modifications but none of it was neccessary. These cars are known for their great handling, fuel economy and reliability. They also have good low end torque and acceleration. 135 HP and 145 Torque is stock specs. Toyota has found an excellent combination of performance, reliability, practicality, styling and cost with the Celica.

First, she is incredibly reliable and durable. Few cars hold together this well mechanically and cosmetically after 150,000 miles and 10 years of duty. Second, she is a joy to drive. At work I drive brand new cars all day and I still look forward to the drive home in my Celica. That says a lot. Finally, cost of ownership is very low. Unlike my first car (80'bmw 320i) parts are easy to find and I can get service done almost anywhere. Take your time and find one that was well taken care of and your reward will be a fun-to-drive, dependable car.

Purchased new; Have kept up on all maintenance and only 2 problems in 11 years: approx 1995 AC recall (covered by Toyota) and the mechanism in trunk which allows it to remain in the open position broke (@ 110,000mi) The result was $1,100 in repair costs because it caused the hinge to break and it bent the frame of the trunk itself. Otherwise, GREAT CAR! I commute over 50 mi/day and am completely confident in this vehichle.

I bought this car using the autotrader website with 74k on it in March of '02. 2 . years later no problems. The arries the legendary and very reliable 2.2L I-4 used in the Camrys. This engine in this little sports car really gets it moving through all the gears which shift smoothly with the hydrolic clutch. It has a very solid highway feel and cornering is a dream. The variable- assist power steering gives it a solid feel when cruising country roads. The car sits very low and is not designed for anyone over 5'10", especially with the sunroof. The controls are easily reachable.
