Very Dependable and Comfortable Car
Brought the car new in Jan 2002. Initially a few bugs as the first year model. It had a dash noise which the helpful dealer fixed under warranty in their second try. Fuel filter changed under warrant at 5000 miles. Those are the only things wrong and the car is at 140,000 miles today. Very dependable and comfortable car which I drove everywhere with my family in it. Only regular maintenance and mobile 1 full sync oil with 10,000 OCI. Recently I cleaned the Throttle Body and idles like new again. Will keep it until wheels fall off, but it seems I will wait a long time for new cars as this one is strong.
Long Term Love Affair
This car surpasses all competitors when one considers quality, features, comfort, design, room, performance, reliability, and value. Yes it costs more initially, but Toyotas hold their resale value, so focus on total ownership cost. Those who scoff at the Camry as an "appliance" generally are trying to defend their choice of less reliable, less cost-effective car purchases, because this car is luxurious, user-friendly, and a delight to drive, without the schmaltz. The car is quiet, tight, and smooth, handles predictably well, and has a smooth power curve. In 65K miles its total repairs were 2 new sets of brakes, a new battery, 4 new BF Goodrich Traction TA tires, and a steering gear lube.
Energizer bunny this.
So I bought my camry with 72K from a toyota dealer, after some miner noise issues from under dash (turns out it was a warranty issue Yay!) I have driven this car a lot, to the tune of 185K with exception of oil changes ( always synthetic) tires, breaks and a battery, haven't had to do much of anything. Love , Love the ride I've been in much more expensive cars and newer cars but this Camry model they did it right. Its got plenty of power to go up mountains and passing speed yeah its there too. did have to change exhause ( cats from toyota are pricey , but worth it because aftermarket crapola will just burn up and cause other issues. with that said I tried saving some cash by using some cheap replacement parts ( not toyota oem) as a result I caused some significant issues with my engine and it had to go in for repair. As of now I'm getting it back with new pistons, rings, rod bearings, a rebuilt head, new exhaust manifold/converter. yeah I will be driving my camry for many years to go. (know someone who got rid of there 98 Camry (with the 6cyl) after 350K and the buyer did $100 repair and is driving around. Yeah energizer bunny aint got nothing on toyota camrys .

Soft Brakes, Wears Tires, Bad Service
Brakes are way soft, dealer can't seem to fix them. ABS engages so often on wet pavement when it shouldn't, feels unsafe to drive when ABS engages at inappropriate times. Seat can't be adjusted to feel comfortable. Suspension is so soft. At 53K drives like it has 100K. Dealerships in IL and TX have not been helpful with problems, they act like I am crazy, but now I am reading and many people have had the same problems. I am trading it in ASAP, even though it may be a loss, b/c I am worried about what might break next. Toyota should be ashamed of this vehicle, I had a '93 camry I loved so I bought this one, I should have paid less and bought something else. I will never buy toyota again!!
2002 Camry XLE
Excellent ride; 23 MPG consistently; very reliable; no repairs or issues over 6 years; 120k miles with the expectation that my kids can get another 100k.
