My First Hybrid

I Traded in My F-150 (luxury FX2 V-8) for the 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid SE. This is my 1st Week of Driving it and my 2 Main Concerns Overall Feel and MPG have both exceeded expectations. This car actually Feels and Drives more Solid and Smooth (not to mention more nimble) than my F-150 and the MPG is Ridiculous in a Good Way! I like the apple car play that uses my iphone google maps for Nav much better than the Ford SYNC Navigation, I gave up Heated seats and Moonroof but not missing them. The Acceleration of the 2.5 lit engine when the Sport Option is used is more than adequate for Merging or Passing (will actually push you back in your seat a bit when engaged) and the intelligent cruise control is a great feature. The lane assist is ok, but I prefer to leave it off while driving. Overall I was hesitant on how I would like the Transition from my F-150 to this Hybrid but so far , I am loving it 👍. Yes, it was a big Transition but when we sold our RV, I no longer had a need to pull something and the gas guzzler lost its ego appeal 😉. Oh and I can't actually tell you what my MPG on my first tank is yet....because after driving it over a week, I STILL have'nt had to stop for Gas!! 😍

Exceeds Expectations-Still Loving It!

This car is driven primarily by my wife for work, which involves about 40 miles commute (two-way), mostly highway. One reviewer mentioned low gas mileage with the hybrid, that has not been our experience. We tend to get between 47 to 52 MPG, depending on who is driving (I tend to drive a bit faster so MPG does drop a few). Some have complained about the weird noise it makes in reverse and at slow speeds. For one, I kinda like it, sounds like a spaceship sound effect but more importantly, it is a safety device to let others know its presence at low speeds (where it is operating on battery and thus very quiet). We have had no issues with acceleration as it does well merging into freeway traffic even with a four cylinder. The extra boost provided by the battery works well for acceleration, and given the balance between power and MPG, I would say Toyota has engineered an excellent balance between power and fuel efficiency. The ride is nearly perfect, though /Edmunds' review noted a slow roll over bumps, and I would agree. Yet overall it is an exceptional quiet car, rides well, yet one has good feel of the road itself. In fact, it seems to mimic a more more expensive Lexus ride, w/o the price. The safety features are nice, especially the lane change warning and back-up system. The adaptative cruise control took some time to adjust, I prefer the minimum setting between cars. We don't use the steer assist, find it annoying overall, but a nice option to have for younger drivers who need the assistance. The seats are comfortable and provide support, though I am not a fan of the headrests as they seem to push my head forward. The trunk is spacious, though the trunk lid itself is not very wide as I would imagine placing a wide piece of luggage might pose a challenge or something similar in size. Overall my wife absolutely loves this car and as they say, happy wife makes for happy life!

Almost perfect

2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 4dr Sedan (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

I recently took delivery on a 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE. It is a beautiful vehicle, inside and out, with Wind Chill Pearl exterior. This generation of Camry Hybrids (introduced in 2018) is more powerful, more comfortable, more efficient, and quieter than any previous generation. I do, however, have a bone to pick with Toyota. Hankook tires? I expected Michelins. No seat memory? For a $39,847 MSRP vehicle, that's an outrage. Not to quibble, but Toyota charges $60 for a rear-bumper "appliqué" that you can barely see. Despite these "minor" disappointments, the 2020 Camry Hybrid XLE is superior, in many ways, to its Honda counterpart.

Forget the German sedans

Coming from recent German sedans (including E-Class and 5-Series), I can honestly say that the new Camry (and Accord and Sonata) is at last so good and refined that the German cars are no longer worth their hefty premium. Everyone in the auto industry knows this. The current Camry is refined, well-built, well-engineered, and is an absolute pleasure to drive. It’s better than the Accord. If you can’t decide between the Hybrid and regular Camry, get the hybrid. Get better acceleration with the 4-cyl engine and save the planet at the same time! (And your friends can think that you’ve “gone green” instead of wondering if you have money problems because you went from driving a 530i or whatever to a Camry). As a matter of fact, we have two 2021 Camry Hybrids in our family, a LE and SE. The base LE has a plush ride and is smooth as silk. It’s like getting a Lexus for 60% of the price. The SE handles better (bigger wheels) and has a great Sport steering wheel. Also a stiffer suspension, but not too harsh. More like a German sedan for half the price. One thing is a MUST: the cold weather package with the heated seats!! The heated seats are available, but not standard, on both the LE and SE (but standard on the higher level models). The seat heaters require more cushioning to be added to the seats, so they are thicker and more padded. They are FAR more comfortable and ergonomic than the basic seats that don’t have this package. I only know this because I have driven both of our cars regularly, one with and one without the heated seats!!

Battery dead if leave for a week.

I just bought a new 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Great car, but we left for a little over a week, came back and the battery was dead. Got a jump from AAA, and took it to the dealer to be checked out. The dealer told me there are lot of small batter drains going all the time, and no way to turn them off without some after market change. If you leave this vehicle for a week or so the batter will always die. This is a design flaw. I would not have bought this vehicle if i had know that. I had a 2009 Camry hybrid, and it was great, but I could leave that car at the airport and not have it die. Shame about this flaw. Avoid this vehicle if you will ever leave it more then a week.
