I bought our Camry XLE Hybrid at the end of December, probably the worst time of year for mileage for a hybrid battery and the toughest test on it's road handling capability. It has performed beyond my expectations. I primarily bought this car to be a comfortable commuter car with great gas mileage that could also transport my 5 person family. The mileage has averaged around 42, including well below zero temps. which clearly reduce the battery efficiency; anytime the temperature is above 40F the mileage is outstanding (often in the 55-60mpg range on trips of 5-20 miles). Our three teenage sons fit comfortably in the back seat without complaint. I was most impressed with how it performed on snowy and icy city streets; we own an AWD vehicle also so my expectation for this FWD vehicle were low, but it holds the road VERY well, minimal slippage etc. The controls are easy once you get used to them and setup was also easy. My one major complaint is the same as others; the Entune system is pretty terrible and gives me an error message about half the time I get in the car. I contacted Toyota Customer service which could not figure it out and eventually told me it was not guaranteed that my iPhone 6S was compatible, a little ridiculous. The Scout GPS system has never worked; Toyota would have been much smarter to simply have ApplePlay and AndroidPlay so we could mimic what our phones already do well. I would absolutely buy this vehicle again.

Great Car but Nav. system and HUD are inadequate

This is a great car. But the brochure lies about the Heads Up Display. The description is for the display in the V6 not the hybrid. I've told Toyota about this serveral times but no response from them. The Navigation system is junk compared to Google Maps. The voice control functions are pretty brain dead and the Nav system is slow. But other than those two things it's a good car. I'm just very disappointed that Toyota won't fix the marketing of the HUD and they are sticking with a very old technology for their Nav and voice controls.

My 11th Toyota....5th Camry.....2nd Hybrid .....maybe my last. I even sold new Toyotas at a dealership. NEVER put one in the shop for repairs until now. Within days of delivery, minor issues....sunroof gasket fell into my lap. Sun visor kept falling into my field of vision....would not stay up. More serious issues.....drivers Blind Spot Moniter would not turn off...stayed on for miles after passing others. Wind noise on drivers side window....dealer somehow never hears it. “Scout Entune” GPS/stereo disconnects continuously. GPS can’t find even the oldest addresses.....worst I’ve ever seen....total junk. Probably the worst problem is the brakes. Beginning to drive, first thing in the morning, only the slightest pressure on the brake pedal causes the brakes to totally lock up. There is no way around it. There is no way to smoothly back out of a parking space or garage without everyone’s heads whipping....caused problems during icy weather in January. Then, after a few stops, the problem clears up. The bad part of this whole thing is the poor Toyota service. With my car now 6 months old, the dealer still swears my brakes are fine and that there is no problem with Toyota brakes. They forget that I’ve driven many Hybrid Camrys as a salesman, and put 70,000 miles on my own. I KNOW how brakes are supposed to feel, and locking up while maneuvering is NOT it! And my blind spot monitors? They fixed the drivers side monitor. But now the passenger side monitor only works about 20% of the time......worthless. Now they’re experimenting with the software, but they have no solid fix. The stereo? They admit customer complaints, but we won’t see a fix until the 2019 models come out. What?!?! As I mentioned.....I’ve owned 11 Toyotas, all trouble-free. Until this one. And I haven’t even gotten into the lack of USB ports or the drink holders that won’t hold our travel mugs that easily fit into our 2012 Camry Hybrid....or the wrinkled leather seats. Any good points, you may ask? 47 mpg on a 2,000 mile trip. Wow.....but not worth dealing with safety issues like brakes and blind spots, and the many, many trips to my Toyota dealer.

I had to have the entire radio replaced due to a consistent echo when speaking on the cell phone (listeners end). This is now a known problem and if you are having it, get your car repaired before your warranty expires. Entunes/Scout is a joke. It is THE worst navigation system (if you can even call it that) on any car I have driven. Your phone must be plugged in via USB to even use Scout if you wish to see it displayed on the screen and if you have an iphone you can not view any other program on your phone if you want to continue to see Scout on your display screen. So if you just view a song you then have to reconnect Scout. Every reviewer I have seen hates it and I would advise individuals that use navigation in their car versus google maps or another program to consider not buying the car just for this reason alone. My son has an Accord and the Apple Play connection is so simple that I have no idea what Toyota was thinking!! I live in New England and I have not been pleased with the traction on the installed tires. I could buy snows and will next year (unless I can trade the car before then) but had hoped for more.

NAV SYSTEM LEAVES ALOT TO BE DESIRED

Love the car, quality is very good. BUT the Nav system and all apps work off your phone using your data plan. The NAV system will not go into a full screen unless your phone is tethered to the system. Yes, the phone must be plugged into the USB port to view the map on the NAV system. My mistake, I should have noticed it before I bought the car. Probably would have been a deal breaker for me. Hoping Toyota will make modifications to the system if enough people complain. Updated 12/28/18 Nav system is not good. Terribly disappointing.
