Used 2003 Toyota 4Runner Consumer Reviews
Going strong at 20!
My 2003 Limited 4WD 4Runner is still going strong, and will soon turn 20! It's been extremely reliable throughout many years in the Third World, despite so many miles of rough and dirt roads and mechanics who may or may not have known what they were doing. Now back in the US with a new 2" lift, replacement suspension and other parts to replace those that rusted, and off-road wheels and tires. Still a beast off-road, comfortable on-road, solid power from the 4.7L V8, and plenty of cargo space. Thanks Toyota for building the old 'Runner to last!
Best Vehicle
I bought mine new in 2003, 4 Runner 4 liter 6 cyl., 2 WD. I have literally had zero issues. I've had 3,000 mile oil changes, 3 brake jobs, 3 sets of tires, 4 batteries, 2 front struts, 2 rear shocks, several pair of wipers and a couple brake light bulbs, 1 serpentine and tune up. This vehicle is quiet, rides nice, runs new at 145k. A/C and heat works great, good in snow if you run snow tires on the rear. I've not replaced any running parts. I'm telling you, Toyota trucks are hard working, retain value and keep you going on the road. I'm buying an older Tacoma Truck to replace this.

One of my three 4Runners...
I've had this car for 17 years, and it's the best car I've ever had. I also have an identical 2004 model, and a 1995. I also have a Lexus because I can't think of a reason to own a car not made by Toyota.

2003 4Runner after 6 years of ownership
Overall I've liked the truck. I have close to 100K miles now and have taken good care of it. It still looks like a new truck when I get it all cleaned up which I think is due to the quality of paint and components used. I've been disappointed by the reliability. Among those things gone wrong are: AC compressor clutch relay, Heated mirrors don't work, Lights in several areas of the dash don't work, Front brake calipers froze up. Had to be replaced Transmission or rear end has a whine that I'm afraid is the beginning of a big bill. Would I buy again? Maybe, but I would want to look at other trucks first. The harsh ride of the vehicle tends to make those sitting in the rear get car sick.
Absolute Best Car
I enjoyed every minute of the 14 years with my 2003 4Runner. AWD is great in the snow and also on the beach. Strong acceleration; never felt top-heavy. A truly reliable and comfortable vehicle. If my son was older, I'd save it for him, but we've got 9 years to go! I'll be shopping for a 4Runner for him when the time comes.
