BEST. VEHICLE. EVER. MADE.
I purchased this vehicle from the original owner with 90k on the clock and currently have 150k on it. In the 6 years and 60k miles I've owned it has given me ZERO problems. Starts up every time, runs quiet, shifts smooth...runs like a top! Not to mention the resale on them is insane. My 1999 is worth more in 2018 than a 2006 Xterra. Ive owned 4 4runners in my life (87, 93, 99 and 00) and in my experience the 3.4 is the BEST engine Toyota ever put in the 4runner. Its a little under powered (as is every 4runner made until 2003), but if you are looking at this vehicle, you are probably more concerned about reliability than 0-60. Ive seen them on craigslist with 300-500k miles on them, and as long as you keep up on routine maintenance. If you love them, they will love you back. Even if you don't love them....they will still love you back

My 4x4 SR5 4Runner is great!
Bought it used in 2007 with 130000 miles at a used car lot. Now has 18xxxx miles. Still runs strong. As long as you do the regular maintenance. This 4runner will run forever. The cloth interior is still great as I put a cushion on driver seat, a dash cover keeps the dash from cracking. The blue paint still shines as it is always garaged. Only used 4WD once in a muddy situation. The only drawback is the engine is kind of weak in this day and age IMO.

Still Luvin' after All These Years!
This is my second 4Runner and I simply love this model. Reliable and Adaptable are two words that describe my overall relationship with my 4Runner... neither of my 4Runners have ever broken down on me, and they'll carry whatever the heck I can throw in the back or tie on the roof! I get about 23 mph when using my Cruise Control, so I use it as much as possible! I love the tight turning radius and sitting high enough to see what's ahead and around me, but low enough so it takes corners well. I've got 146k mi. and it runs like it did when I first bought it at 9k mi. No wonder these used 4Runners are hard to come by! They're like Loyal Friends -- you never want to let them go! :-D
Built To Last
I love this truck, and with 187,000 miles on it, I have never had a problem with it. If the routine maintenance is kept up, these things will last forever. After all these years, it still looks great, and puts the newer body style to shame. Interior has held up extremely well, and all the electronics still work perfectly. The engine is still strong, for the period it was built, and the transmission still shifts like it was brand new! Great, great vehicle. I just wish it was a little bigger in the front seating area, but I am 6'5", so it just wasn't built for 90% sized people.
Auto Hall of Fame!
This is the BEST car I have ever owned. Purchased it new in 1999. Never had any problem with the engine or transmission. I change the oil approximately every 10,000 to 20,000. I use synthetic Castrol, since day one. Replaced timing belt around 200,000. Almost time for another one. I've owned many cars through the years but this one is outstanding!
