Very sturdy
I hit a car and put a hole in there door, my 4runner on the other hand was fine no damage at all. I recommended this car to bad drivers, like me, who cannot hit the breaks fast enough. Also was flipped onto side in snowstorm, came of with a few dents but nothing serious. Has also hit two dear with no scuffs or dents. Just get a giant bumper and you’ll be good. Hope this helps someone.

Exceptionally dependable 4Runner
I purchase my 1999 4Runner brand-new. It now has 255,000 miles (and counting) and it’s in impeccable condition. I’ve taken it off-road countless times and driven it on extended road-trips throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It’s the only vehicle I have purchased brand-new and despite my ability to buy most any vehicle I want now, I still drive this awesome (and safe) SUV daily. I’ve received more than a few comments praising my 4Runner’s excellent condition.

It's a Toyota - What do you expect...
I have owned my 4Runner for a little over 4 years now and am COMPLETELY satisfied. I must say it is a GREAT SUV to own. The reason why I purchased it was b/c of reliability and looks! I have taken mine off road numerous times in very difficult terrain and with the ground clearance and articulation this SUV has, it is awesome. I put an average of 25,000 miles a year on mine and it is running just as good at 100,000 miles as it was at 1,000 miles. I love it and would definitely buy another one!
Just the best ever.
Growing up, i was around two 4runners- a 99 limited and a 00 SR5. The 99 made it to 200k without a hiccup. The 00 had the piss beat out of it- used for manual labor jobs- and made it to over 300,000 while still going. Today I bought my aunt's 99 sr5 with 198k and basically a new everything on it- the family was great about maintenence and had owned it since 56k. I know that my girl will be good for many years to come. Edit: I’ve had it about a year now and I’ve put 20k on it. No issues to speak of. It’s a gas guzzler, so be prepared...

Another Lemon
This is the second 4Runner I have bought in about 10 years, the first was a 96 which i bought new as a base 4x4 model, and it was a horrible lemon, clutch replaced 4 times by 30,000 miles. Smoke, all kinds of problems. I then bought a Tahoe, and loved it, but my wife couldn't drive it because of size. So i sold it and bought this 99 4Runner Limited 4x4, this one had 60,000 miles on it, and is just as big a piece of junk, the emergency brake light keeps flashing, the truck doesn't idle right in the cold, it smokes, the tranny jerks when put in gear, bad brakes, etc. Wouldn't buy another unless it was one of the new designed 4runners with the V8s.
