Traded in our 10 Legacy that we loved for the ground clearance of the Outback, ordered June of 12 and received in July so a year now and have loved everything about it. Ride was sportier in the Legacy and it probably isnt of Audi or BMW quality..(Maybe better) We have taken several long trips very comfortably and on the Hwy can easily get the 30mpg promised avg hand calc over the last year is shy of 26 and we do in town driving. 2.5i strong enough for anyone unless you just love having the 6 cyl, live @ 4000ft and go down the hill all the time. Works great in the snow. Nav is good not great, large back up camera. Recommend to anyone, Great Value.
I love the ground clearance
The main reason I bought this car is the ground clearance and the all wheel drive. I live in Wyoming and I need something that I could drive in bad weather without a worry. This vehicle is perfect

Cross between a Wagon and an SUV
Great solid reliable comfortable safe all weather AWD vehicle with lots of cargo space. Not a sports car but also not a minivan. Getting over 30 MPG on the highway.

This has been my longest owned vehicle, and best to date. The overall practicality with minimal compromise is what sold me. I've been please with fuel economy, reliability, and over liveability of the car.

2013 subaru outback
never owned a subaru outback....so far...excellent! will get alot of funtionat of this wagon....big family trips!
Not totally up to hype.
Had my Outback for 3 days now and really nice to drive, well laid out on the interior, handles fantastic on wet roads. Now, for the take to heart before you buy issues. Steering not as tight as it should be, mushy brakes, noisy tranny, seriously over rated gas milage, and extremely fussy blue tooth. I bought this with my wife in mind as she loves Subaru. Had I to do it all over again, would have bought the Hyundai Sonata 2.0 turbo, now thats a car! If you are considering the Outback, test drive it twice, even three times before you commit. Make sure it is exactly what you are looking for.
Great car for tall people
This is the first Subaru I've ever purchased. My husband is 6'7" and when we saw the legroom of 43" we did not believe it would ever work;however he has plenty of leg room and head room (more than Tahoe, Yukon, Sequoia, etc) with way better gas mileage. The gas mileage is right on target of 24.6 mpg with all mountain driving (very curvy with lots of hills). The 4 cylinder is plenty enough power. We also live on a very steep dirt road and does very well. Have not gotten any snow yet, so not sure how will handle. Very impressed with features in "base model". 2nd row passengers (2- 3 year olds) have plenty room and love the cup holder between them.
Good info
Excellent automobile for a large family. Very strong engine and outstanding safety record.

Great for western mountains driving
We had a 2012 with 13000 miles and loved it but wanted leather and a better stereo so got the 2013. Several friends have new and old Subarus and they seem to have exceptionally good build quality and long-term endurance. The newer/bigger/taller models (2011-2013) are very quiet, roomy and comfy. I liked the looks of the 2012 front end better as it was dressier, but the 2013 is more sporty looking. This wagon is surefooted on Pacific Mountain highways where we drive. The suspension/steering "fix" made the 2013 handle more like a SUV. The 2012 had a feeling more like an Avalon on the road.
I LOVE my Subaru
Try it and you will LOVE it! Amazing! Best car I have ever had!!!

Great car that meets our AWD needs
Vehicle is a great AWD choice with proven reliability. we have been pleasantly surprised by the mileage. We average about 23 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway. They only complaint we have is that the lift gate should have a power option. We understand it is available in the newer models. One annoying thing: I cannot seem to adjust the volume of the guidance system voice. It’s choice is on or off, and can’t find a menu to adjust the volume.

It's (almost) got it all.
This car is not an eye-stopper unless you live where it snows or rains heavily. Excellent ground clearance, easy oil changes, and excellent side and rear vision. Stable for light towing. The 2013 Outback was a bit noisy, which has been corrected. Gas mileage was just okay, but now greatly improved. We have had 13 Subarus over 25 years and NEVER HAD A SERIOUS MECHANICAL PROBLEM. NONE!!!

Best car I've ever owned
This Outback has been completely trouble free. The only maintenance outside of regular oil changes has been a new battery, tires and brakes. That's all in 105000 miles. It's also the most comfortabe car I've owned.

Like New after 10 years
Been all over the country on many trips with perfect performance under all conditions--even a mid-winter romp around Vermont. New tires and battery, and everything else--even wipers-- performs as new.

Low priced review of 2013 Outback
Just had my Outback in the shop for a gasket repair. Said the car was pristine & in great shape. has 70000 one owner original miles. Now I have 72 000 miles on it and runs fine. Thought about getting a newer car but really would they be much better?

Great Subaru Outback but .
We drove our 2013 outback for almost 13 years and 180K miles. It was a great vehicle, but over the last couple years we had some issues, of course at inconvenient times and locations, that decreased our peace of mind, especially on long trips away from home. First, the engine cooling system/fan broke down, requiring a 95 mile tow in the wrong direction and our need to get a rental vehicle to continue our trip. More recently, the Outback would shimmy pretty severely when braking on a downhill slope. And the car would periodically make an unusual high pitched noise with certain steering - not often but enough to cause some concern. Our good mechanics could not replicate that sound or detect its cause, and the brakes, power steering etc all checked out just fine.

2013 Certified Blue Subaru Outback
I purchased a Certified Blue Subarau Outback from Kirby Subaru in Ventura with the excellent help of Francisco Vazquez. He was very informative and helpful. I would recommend Kirby and Francisco if looking for a Subaru. Very professional in all ways.

5K miles so far
Issues Mileage! Don't know how they got a 27/30 EPA rating but I give it 24/27 - upsetting. I read they toyed with tranny to get more oomph on 2013 perhaps resulting in mileage loss. Engine same but EPA would have to retest right? Yes am lead foot but have noticed that even in slower traffic I only get a little over 27 at best. Tranny noisy! listen while test drive - if it doesn't bother you then it won't later. Worst when engine cold. Steering bit odd coming from mazda 6 - I wandered all over lane at first (you can find many reports on net of this) but now its OK/better. Pros Suspension/drive very good on road, AWD, Comfortable/Spacious interior, Bluetooth, Roof rack
Dependable car
Sold this vehicle i March 2024. It had over 195,000 miles and had reliably carried us everywhere for over 12 years. Good in all weather, holds cargo and dogs. Upsized the engine which cut mpg to 25 highway but great responsiveness. Upscaled the interior and never regretted that.
