Odometer just turned 20,000. Have had none of the problems some other owners reported. Wish Subaru had some of the things found on practically everybody else's cars at this trim level [doors that lock when you put it in gear, turn signals on mirrors would be nice] but without a doubt, I feel more secure driving this than ANY other car (or truck) I've ever driven since I started driving in 1963. [and considering I am a "car-aholic", that's over 50 vehicles!]

My first Subie, be aware of the shakes that can occur with this car. Do some digging before you buy. Good gas mileage for the size, which is nice. There is a negative, very poor acceleration, I have the four with a manual transmission. You will need to plan your moves in the highway, faster traffic will come up fast in the passing lane and flooring the car does nothing. Comfortable ride on the highway, good seats.

Car is good, but less practical than the older subarus. The roof rack is a ridiculous plastic fashion accessory. I had to drill into the plastic to mount cross bars far enough apart for long items like kayaks, windsurfers, etc. Subaru needs to think PRACTICAL.

The plague of a new vehicle. A first - back-to-back recalls on consecutive days. The car is living on a reputation it no longer deserves dealer still tries to bleed 3,000 mile oil changes - when manual is 7500 miles.

My wife totaled our 07 outback without a scratch on her. I therefore replaced it with a 2010 limited. First off, I did not like the 'privacy' tinted Glass-it ruined the rear view. Secondly, the multifunction display is really a non-display, it is invisible in normal outdoor light and placed in a bad position. I had a homelink mirror on my '07 but this car came with only a dimming/compass vanity. The dealer wants about $200 to change it, the difference in price is only about $15. I'm not sure about the mpg gauge, it is rarely at neutral and pegs at max going downhill with the engine braking. I wish I had my 07 back!

Unintended acceleration - Beware. Test for it before buying

After the purchase, I discovered that the car has an unintended acceleration problem in 2 situations: 1. At very low speed, eg inching the car with foot on the brake while parking, turning the steering wheel 15 degrees can make the RPM go up from 700 to 1000. This results in the car surging forward. 2. Again at low speed, just when you let the foot off the brake, the car inches forward at about RPM of 650. After 1-2 tire revolution, the RPM pops up to about 900. The car is still moving slowly, but at a higher speed. This is a particular problem in tight parking situation or stop and go traffic jam. This is at least a big annoyance, but can potentially cause property damage or injur

This was definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made. The car is solid, whips around turns with superior handling. I love the paddle shifters for the manual mode. The premium sound is a plus (worth the extra $$). Easy latches on roof rails to swing them around.

It's quiet and well thought out. There is plenty of leg room for four adults. I'm having a little trouble with the front bolster on the drivers seat cutting off the circulation in my lower legs and feet. I agree with others about the gauge showing fuel economy, would rather have water temp. The roof rack is a clever solution to a non-problem. Subaru should offer a replacement rail for this so we can fit our old Yakima rack one can actually use. The CVT is great but it is taking some time to adjust to the longer coasting distance. Is it just me or doesn't it feel good hand washing it? If Subaru comes out with a diesel and fixes the roof rack I might buy a second one.

We've had our 3.6 Limited Outback for three weeks now and couldn't be happier. The ride is solid and quiet, and the suspension is compliant yet conveys sufficient road feel to keep the driver involved. The fit and finish of the interior are first rate: the buttons and dials are uncomplicated and intuitive, and the seats are well designed, comfortable and provide plenty of support. The 3.6 liter engine supplies ample power for a car this size, and it has a refinement I didn't expect. Subaru has built a well-thought-out car which has certainly resonated with us and raised the bar for this category.

Excellent power to weight ratio, comfortable and luxurious interior (as good as a luxury make). The leather is a bit tougher than previous limited models (a good thing since it will last longer). Bluetooth and media hub work effortlessly and upgraded stereo is nice. 5 speed transmission is smooth, much better than the 4 speeds. Heated seats are nice. The all wheel drive is top of its class and the ride is comfortable (though not as engaged as you would experience in an impreza, etc). Sheet metal feels a bit thin and cheaper when compared to the German competition.

The car is way underpowered, which makes driving very frustrating. Also when I take my foot of the accelerator at higher speeds the whole car has sudden jerk, very strange and uncomfortable. The button for hazard lights is next to shifter so I accidentally always hit this. On a positive side I get decent gas millage around 23, but this is expected from 4 cyl engine. Car is big inside with comfy seats. No towing capability. This is realistic rating trust me.

My 96 Outback was superb for its time but was underpowered without a turbo. The new 3.6 engine and 5 speed auto are perfectly matched to deliver seamless power. The new design is superb and still retains the Subaru qualities we valued in past models. I only have a few hundred miles so far but really enjoy driving it every day.

I have driven the car 2000 miles. I find that the engine is disturbingly noisy above 2500 rpm. The rear hatch does not have a latch that you can undo before you lift it. Takes quite a hefty pull to open it. If by chance the hatch is locked when you pull, your fingertips are going to feel the pain. At highway speeds the car has a tendency to oversteer. The analog speedometer measures from 0-150 mph and it does not belong in the Outback. 0- 110 mph would be more suitable

Just picked up the new subaru. Hard to find six cylinder ltd, but in my opinion the six cylinder is the way to go for highway driving. Drove both the 4 cyl and 6 cylinder and the 6 had a lot less road noise and seemed more solid. Drive both before you buy and you will see what I mean, and you can decide if the extra cost of the 6 is worth it. The interior is very comfortable. It would help if the passenger seat had a height adjustment like the drivers seat. It may be cramped for taller passengers if the sunroof option is added. Looked at a lot of suvs and the subaru seemed like a great value for what you get. Try one

We've had the car for 11 months now and are pleased with the performance and reliability. The only maintenance we've needed was 2 oil changes, the last included checking for 2 recall issues (neither was found on our car.) Cargo room is adequate although with 2 adults and 2 large dogs we did purchase a roof basket since we car camp frequently. No complaints about handling, in fact the car handles quite well, very fast off the line and easy to drive on winding roads. Much nicer to drive than the Xterra we had before although not as rugged.

I have only 2,100 miles on this vehicle, but my first driving impression was really rewarding and it has only improved. the mileage is excellent, average 30.5 with my highest at 34.1. This fill up i exceeded 504 miles and still had 1.5 gallons left. The car is very solid and it is really great on the highway. It has every useful feature you need, with no unnecessary, frivolous add-ons. I am really impressed with the handling. I just don't understand why previous owners are not happy with the additional room and the new style. I think it is great looking and performs flawlessly. It even has lights under the doors to light the ground. How cool is that.

Like the stability driving this car. Fits the grandchildren and safe on the back roads we must sometimes travel. Ride just a little hard, but stable in all roads. Had some electrical items that required some sleuthing to fix; since then, only the tire pressure light comes on occasionally but good to know we had some tire stem issues and none since fixed.

Good interior design, not that kind of cheap plastic style as in Toyota Camry! Plenty of space, nice touch on the fine details, such lights in the cargo area, hooks for shopping bags, surround sound effect, auto-adjustment of audio volume based on speed, instantaneous and average MPG, etc. Good car-like suspension. Very quiet ride on local roads and highways. Very good gas mileage, 29 MPG after a week of daily commuting, 50% on state highway and 50% on local roads. Acceleration a bit slow with a 4cyl, not bad for an AWD of this size and this MPG.

I had two prior Subaru's that got up to 185,000 miles before any problems. In 2008 I needed a new car and bought Toyota Highlander because I did not care for the suabru designs. Traded for 2010 Outback and love it. Have only 900 miles so far, but handles like only a Suabru can with it's AWD. My daughter drove it and now she's thinking of buying one, although she wants to go with the 6 cylinder.

Extremely satisfied so far - wanted an AWD vehicle with manual transmission that was good on gas and could haul my bike and kayak. Also have two small children, so ride quality was also important. Outback has met or exceeded all of these requirements. Comfortable on long trips - averaged 33 mpg highway; getting 24.3 mpg in mixed driving. People have commented on how they like the dark gray color, and that it looks like a more expensive vehicle.

Purchased my first Subaru about a week ago, an Outback 3.6R Limited. Traded my 2004 Lexus RX330 in on this jewel. The Outback is awesome on the road; quiet, smooth and comfortable - quieter than the RX. Got the Nav system, and I like it a lot. And for those who have complained about not being able to make Nav and Bluetooth selections while driving, get over yourself! It's a safety issue! This is the most fun-to-drive car I have ever owned, and the fact that it takes regular gas is great. I look forward to many adventures with "Alice" (as in Alice Springs, located in the Australian Outback). I even have a mascot for Alice's back seat - a small stuffed Kangaroo, named "Subie-roo"

A big change for me from an Acura TL, but I wanted a car with some better storage space. I actually went to Subaru to look at the Forester. I didn't like the looks or feel of that and then noticed the Outback. I love the styling and it is very comfortable. I'm still getting used to the all-wheel drive feel vs. the front wheel of my Acura. I drove an Infinity EX on the same day on the same route and it was no comparison. The Outback was much better with more storage space. The drive is comfortable. I did have a little trouble with my transmission where it would "bang" into gear when coasting at a slow speed (10 mph) and then accelerating. The reflashed it and all is well now.

Bought our Outback the same week our local dealership got them in. We love it! Our only complaint if you want to call it a complaint is the engine - it has enough power, but no extra. It's using all it has when merging onto the interstate, but it's golden when cruising. Set it on 70 MPH, and the CVT gears down the engine to about 2000RPM and the "instant" MPG gague is showing 35+ MPG which is great for a vehicle this size. Everything else with this car is great - the exterior styling stands out, and the interior is comfortable and the styling is great - plenty of room for our family of three.

Wife and I were thinking 2010 Forester, but 2010 Outback, though more expensive, is a much more solid and quiet rig. Compared to 09 Outback, significant improvements in front passenger and rear passenger leg room (major factor for us). CVT tranny also a major plus due to significant fuel economy boost (with 40 miles on engine, we average 27.2 mpg on 15 mile drive home with some stop/go city driving and mostly highway driving). I always wonder about new design quirks with model year re-designs, but the car addressed our key objectives of legroom and fuel efficiency. Forester had a few squeaks in interior during test drive. This outback was rock solid over bumpy roads and railroad tracks.

First off, I was dubious of the new transmission at first, but I can't believe the mileage I'm getting with the CVT, it's been between 29 and 32mpg so far. I've found it to be very controllable as well, and the simulated gears look like they will work well in the Sierras this winter. The upgraded stereo sounds terrific, tons of room and ridiculously spacious in the reclining back seat, and many improvements over my previous Subaru, a Forester. No squeaks or rattles here.

We had a 2002 Xterra that had reached the end of it's life. We were tired of terrible fuel economy and a growing family demanded a more reliable and safer vehicle. Subaru has always been on our "radar" but after driving my parents 2010 Outback we were sold. This vehicle is amazing! There really isn't anything wrong with it. It has better ground clearance than most so called SUV's, better fuel economy, reliability and amazing safety ratings. I used to be a die hard solid rear axle SUV fan but those days are done. It's great driving home with a vehicle in 8 inches of snow, heated seats on of course, passing "SUV's" who have spun out! A great purchase, especially at 2.9% APR!

Third Subaru, but first Outback and so far it's proving to be a very good car with plenty of space, comfortable highway cruiser and reasonably economic at ~24mpg combined. As with all the Subarus I've had it's well built with a great drivetrain, but the handling isn't up to what I expected, body roll is reasonable for having a high C of G but it's the steering set-up that really lets it down. Turning into a gradual corner 40-50 mph and the steering feedback is not progressive and is somewhat jittery. Tire pressure is correct so assume steering rack and suspension set-up. Overall though we've made the right choice and you really do get a lot of car for the money.

Power is not great but I can handle a little less power for the great gas mileage. This car has a huge amount of room for a family of four and looks good too. The comfortable seats are an added benefit. This is definitely a great value with AWD on top!

I have owned quite a few cars in my 45 years of driving and this is one of the best. It doesn't have the element of luxury my BMW's and Mercedes have had in the past but it is far and away the most trouble free and reliable cars ever. I have had it in storage since I bought it and used it briefly in 2010 driving from West Coast to the east but through, snow, ice and tornado's and incredible winds it was effortless. A quality automobile and although I love driving Beemers I hate taking them to the shop which is a constant. Subaru does it right and the 2010 redesign was an excellent example of fine engineering, while not the fastest definitely the safest and most reliable I have owned.

Upon delivery of vehicle, everything was as advertised. However, once the temperature dipped below 30, the problems surfaced. The emergency brake light flashes and the traction control light stays on while the engine is cold. I took the car back to the dealer who has now had it for 8 days, with zero results. I must say I regret my purchase of the Outback. I had heard good things about Subaru, but unfortunately my experience so far has been terrible. If you like constantly going back to the dealer and using loaner cars, this is the car for you.

After driving my 2010 outback for 25,000 miles, I can honestly say this is a terrific car. Seats are comfortable, visibility is good, suspension is excellent on the often pot hole ridden roads I drive without being overly soft. The CVT tranny is awesome. My driving is mostly highway and suburban, not a lot of stop and go city driving or traffic jams. I average 30 mpg. Acceleration won't blow you away, but it is entirely adequate and the CVT's smooth power transmission moves the car just fine up to highway speeds. Can't forget Subaru's AWD system. Driving it in winter weather was amazing. Up the mountain in a snow storm - piece of cake. Build quality is excellent, no issues so far.

In just over a week I have driven my new 2.5i just over 700 miles and am thoroughly impressed. The ride is quiet and wonderfully smooth even on rough roads (paved and patched - no offroading yet). The winding country roads where I live are handled with ease. After 30 years of driving a manual transmission, I test drove the CVT and was hooked. Performance is smooth with very quick response. The 2.5L engine won't win any drag races, but it has plenty of power and punch for daily driving and highway merging. All while pulling an amazing combined 29.4MPG (mostly highway, small town and country roads) on the first tank and a half of gas. I am absolutely delighted with the car so far.

I like to see the 2011 Subaru outback to add power tailgate option. So, my grandpa can buy it since he like it very much. But he will not buy it because he has no strength to close the hatch back without other's help.

2010 OB leaking sunroof, & oil pump

I've owned the 2010 outback for a year and have had a leaking sunroof for, yes, a year. After two different dealers attempted and failed at the repair (it leaks primarily during pressure washes, but drips when it rains, I moved on to the national customer service for help and their conclusion is that all 2010 sun roofs leak and they are NOT designed to withstand car washes. The bottom line is they will NOT repair the sunroof end of story. The car is now in the shop for an oil leak. CVT has great MPG, but I question the durability. Customer service is poor...very poor. Too bad because my 2000 OB was great. Suby lost a customer for ever.

At least the 3rd recall since redsign

Another recall - each one successively more potentially dangerous and harmful. Original upholstery build quality was poor and I wrote sub of America and sub of Indiana - alerting that if I can see the poor upholstery - what couldn't I see. In the intervening 6 months 3 recalls. A piece of crap. And oh - no one of responsibility ever even wrote with a comforting statement. Avoid Subaru outback.

2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i base model stinks

Subaru has made some very good improvements from 2009 model for the Outback. I am really happy with most of the car functionality. I am extremely disappointed that the driver's seat is jerky and moves forward by ~ 1cm almost every time I apply brakes. When I contacted the dealership about it, they said it is a Subaru problem and does not have any fix. They tested this in all other cars they have with manual seats and experienced this problem. I do not understand how such a reputed company like Subaru that makes airplane engines cannot figure out making properly working driver seats? I have seen 15 year old cars that have manual seats that work correctly. Other than that its good.

The 4cyl. is strong enough

This car fits my lifestyle. I have two children in car seats and at least one bicycle in/on the car at any time. Living in the NE I also have to deal with snow so I wanted AWD. The price and gas mileage of the 4cyl. looked amazing but I had strong reservations about getting that model as I live in an area populated with short but very steep hills. Then I took a test drive. The 4cyl. with CVT suits my needs perfectly. It is not a race car but there is always ample power for any situation. No problem driving up hills with 15-20% grades. Outside of the engine, the car feels solid and grips the road in a very reassuring manner. It is an excellent family hauler for the dedicated weekend warrior

Subaru Outback -Quality Control Issue

I took delivery with only 3 miles on the vehicle and noticed a steering vibration. My dealer encouraged me to take delivery since the tires probably needed to be broken in. Anyways, the steering vibration is worse, and to date, nobody has the solution. It forces you to use 2 hands on the wheel at all times to ensure adequate control of the vehicle. This has been reported to SOA. Now I wait to hear what is the solution. Based on internet research, this is a common problem with several new outbacks. I have less than 1,000 miles on the vehicle to date. On the positive side, this model is a great improvement in the quality of interior finish including seat comfort and extra space from the 2008

Just recently handed over my 97 Legacy GT Wagon over to the kid. Except for a scratch or two that baby was pristine. So going to an Outback, especially the new body was a big change at first. The car felt "huge" to me. But now after driving it for the last two months I'm really loving feel of luxury in and out. Though I don't feel it handles quite as good as my Legacy (being it's lower center of gravity), but I haven't really taken it on a Mountain trip yet. I'm really enjoying the comfortable ride and how you don't feel the gear change and really digging those heated seats! And being a bit higher in the car is a nice advantage in the world of all SUV's these days.

Sports Wagons are the thinking man's or women's SUV as they are roomy, environmentally friendly and much more fuel efficient. The new Subaru Outback is tomorrows car, today; at an affordable price point , with lots of comfort, value, high quality fit & finish. The ride is smooth over bumps and New York being the pothole capital of the world, the Outback makes driving a relaxing and less jarring event. The fuel economy is decent, not the 30mpg we want, still the v6 engine is quiet and powerful. The car has surprisingly fast pickup conquers steep hills with a full trunk with ease, fits in any environment, from long island's gold coast, to uptown Manhattan, without causing undue attention.

Underpowered car, slow, ok design

I have purchased the car and have put 2000 miles on it so far. My initial thoughts: This is underpowered and a slow car. I am not expecting 0-60 in 3 sec but 11 seconds is too slow especially when merging on the highway. I wish all exterior colors would come with dark interior but no, only few (not my type). Also some rattling noise is coming out of the dashboard, not a big thing but can be annoying. The factory roof rack is very flimsy, bad design. On the positive side. The car is roomy on the inside. Seats are very comfortable. All the interior features are functional and placed correctly. Not sure if I had to do all over again if I would buy the same car. Look at other options as well.

I live in the pacific northwest where AWD is a must, and the outback exceeds my expectations. Snow, Rain, and sleet have no effect on this ride. It's simply a must in the rough weather. The Heated seats are a charm in the cold, plus they heat up fast.
