Outstanding Outback!
Purchased my first Subaru about a week ago, an Outback 3.6R Limited. Traded my 2004 Lexus RX330 in on this jewel. The Outback is awesome on the road; quiet, smooth and comfortable - quieter than the RX. Got the Nav system, and I like it a lot. And for those who have complained about not being able to make Nav and Bluetooth selections while driving, get over yourself! It's a safety issue! This is the most fun-to-drive car I have ever owned, and the fact that it takes regular gas is great. I look forward to many adventures with "Alice" (as in Alice Springs, located in the Australian Outback). I even have a mascot for Alice's back seat - a small stuffed Kangaroo, named "Subie-roo"
Good Value
A big change for me from an Acura TL, but I wanted a car with some better storage space. I actually went to Subaru to look at the Forester. I didn't like the looks or feel of that and then noticed the Outback. I love the styling and it is very comfortable. I'm still getting used to the all-wheel drive feel vs. the front wheel of my Acura. I drove an Infinity EX on the same day on the same route and it was no comparison. The Outback was much better with more storage space. The drive is comfortable. I did have a little trouble with my transmission where it would "bang" into gear when coasting at a slow speed (10 mph) and then accelerating. The reflashed it and all is well now.

Great value, fun to drive
We've had the car for 11 months now and are pleased with the performance and reliability. The only maintenance we've needed was 2 oil changes, the last included checking for 2 recall issues (neither was found on our car.) Cargo room is adequate although with 2 adults and 2 large dogs we did purchase a roof basket since we car camp frequently. No complaints about handling, in fact the car handles quite well, very fast off the line and easy to drive on winding roads. Much nicer to drive than the Xterra we had before although not as rugged.
Not enough time for valid reliability
Wife and I were thinking 2010 Forester, but 2010 Outback, though more expensive, is a much more solid and quiet rig. Compared to 09 Outback, significant improvements in front passenger and rear passenger leg room (major factor for us). CVT tranny also a major plus due to significant fuel economy boost (with 40 miles on engine, we average 27.2 mpg on 15 mile drive home with some stop/go city driving and mostly highway driving). I always wonder about new design quirks with model year re-designs, but the car addressed our key objectives of legroom and fuel efficiency. Forester had a few squeaks in interior during test drive. This outback was rock solid over bumpy roads and railroad tracks.
Great Car
Bought our Outback the same week our local dealership got them in. We love it! Our only complaint if you want to call it a complaint is the engine - it has enough power, but no extra. It's using all it has when merging onto the interstate, but it's golden when cruising. Set it on 70 MPH, and the CVT gears down the engine to about 2000RPM and the "instant" MPG gague is showing 35+ MPG which is great for a vehicle this size. Everything else with this car is great - the exterior styling stands out, and the interior is comfortable and the styling is great - plenty of room for our family of three.
