need a decent roof rack

Car is good, but less practical than the older subarus. The roof rack is a ridiculous plastic fashion accessory. I had to drill into the plastic to mount cross bars far enough apart for long items like kayaks, windsurfers, etc. Subaru needs to think PRACTICAL.

My wife totaled our 07 outback without a scratch on her. I therefore replaced it with a 2010 limited. First off, I did not like the 'privacy' tinted Glass-it ruined the rear view. Secondly, the multifunction display is really a non-display, it is invisible in normal outdoor light and placed in a bad position. I had a homelink mirror on my '07 but this car came with only a dimming/compass vanity. The dealer wants about $200 to change it, the difference in price is only about $15. I'm not sure about the mpg gauge, it is rarely at neutral and pegs at max going downhill with the engine braking. I wish I had my 07 back!

Unintended acceleration - Beware. Test for it before buying

After the purchase, I discovered that the car has an unintended acceleration problem in 2 situations: 1. At very low speed, eg inching the car with foot on the brake while parking, turning the steering wheel 15 degrees can make the RPM go up from 700 to 1000. This results in the car surging forward. 2. Again at low speed, just when you let the foot off the brake, the car inches forward at about RPM of 650. After 1-2 tire revolution, the RPM pops up to about 900. The car is still moving slowly, but at a higher speed. This is a particular problem in tight parking situation or stop and go traffic jam. This is at least a big annoyance, but can potentially cause property damage or injur

This was definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made. The car is solid, whips around turns with superior handling. I love the paddle shifters for the manual mode. The premium sound is a plus (worth the extra $$). Easy latches on roof rails to swing them around.

We've had our 3.6 Limited Outback for three weeks now and couldn't be happier. The ride is solid and quiet, and the suspension is compliant yet conveys sufficient road feel to keep the driver involved. The fit and finish of the interior are first rate: the buttons and dials are uncomplicated and intuitive, and the seats are well designed, comfortable and provide plenty of support. The 3.6 liter engine supplies ample power for a car this size, and it has a refinement I didn't expect. Subaru has built a well-thought-out car which has certainly resonated with us and raised the bar for this category.
