Beats Accord & Camry

Alan, 10/23/2016
2017 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited 4dr Sedan AWD (2.5L 4cyl CVT)

Had a 2014 Accord Sport, Have a 2012 Camry Se. Both cars are pretty much the same. They feel cheap. Got Legacy Limited. The difference is the All Wheel Drive. Instead the the car being pulled, which stinks, all 4 wheels move and the car is much smoother and feels like a luxury car. Front wheel drive is terrible. It also rides softer than both Camry & Accord. It's a huge difference. The front seats are much more comfortable and there's more room width wise. After driving the Legacy, you will never go back to front wheel drive.

Can't go wrong with Legecy

I purchased this car in December and I took advantage of Subaru's zero percent financing. I am very happy with the room under the hood and the roominess of the cabin. I am 6'1 and I am very comfortable driving the car, plenty of room. The car is smartly engineered. The AWD is the best in the business. I live in the northeast so the AWD will come in handy. So far I am very happy with the car. If you are looking for a good, comfortable, reliable and safe automobile at a good price, look no further than the Subaru Legecy. Don't get the base model. You get more bells and whistles starting with the premium edition on up. Update: I have owned the car now for 8 months and my review hasn't changed. I have experienced no issues with the car. Drives well with the changes in the seasons in the northeast. Only season that it hadn't seen yet is fall. It still gets 32 miles to the gallon in mix driving city vs. highway. I am happy that I purchased the Subaru over other cars I was considering.

Really loving my legacy

I haven't been able to find a flaw in this car after 6 weeks of ownership. No it is not a sporty sedan but then I didn't want nor expect that out of this car. Love the eyesight aids I was worried they would bother me but they work flawlessly. Remind me when I get out of lane or if I haven't started moving at a stop light. Looks very sharp and lots of cargo room. We had a blizzard and being used to the old forester I had wasn't sure if the legacy would be that good. But it was actually better stuck like glue to the roads. Negoitating with dealer was a breeze they honored the Edmunds quote perfectly and gave a fair trade for my car matching what Edmunds said it would be. Seriously I have been buying cars for decades this was the easiest by far. 6 Months nothing really changed still love it. Had a flat tire but that is hardly the cars fault. First small flaw showed up about month 8. I tend to ride with my left arm perched on the door sill. Already there is a fading of the material there from wear. Now I have seen that with all my cars usually 5+ years into ownership. Seeing that after only 8 months was a little disheartening. But again a really minor flaw. Otherwise performance/reliability have been perfect. Still no issues or mechanical problems 2019 just routine maintenance. No issues still in 2019 very good car 2021 - Don't drive near as much with covid/work from home but still zero issues with car, very dependable. 2022 - Still not a single break down of any part of this car. Even the battery lasted 5 years which surprised me. Drives and rides very much like it did the day I bought it. Very happy with this car. Loan paid off and not a single issue during the term other than normal maintenance. Probably best car I ever owned. 2023 - Still not a single issue. Brakes done but routine maintenance after 6 years

Checked-out all the sedans. Legacy rose to the top

Wife and I test drove all the 2017 sedans. Accord was ruled out because the seating was very uncomfortable for both of us. Ford Fusion gas mileage not up to par. Camry was sort of blah. Finally narrowed to Sonata and Legacy (Limited trim for both) . Both are quiet. Sonata has slightly better pick-up, but I thought Legacy handled better. Sonata's warranty was a strong selling point, but the Legacy had all-wheel drive. Final choice based on minor interior things. No options for the Sonata interior color: only black interior with the white/silver/grey exterior, and only beige with the blue/red exteriors. Also the faux wood interior molding on the Sonata beige trim looked cheap. Have had the Legacy for a month and very happy with it. Have now had the Legacy for over 6 months. Remains very comfortable with excellent handling and ride. I find the audio interface poor. The computer frequently does not pick up my voice, and the audio controls are not intuitive. Am a little disappointed with the gas mileage. Overall, I am happy with the car, as the safety features work very well (which was a major selling point of the car). Backup warning when a car is coming out of my site line has saved me a couple of times already. I really like the headlights lighting up the curb in the direction of a turn. Lane departure, automatic cruise control, and blind spot detectors all work flawlessly as well.

The Pillow

Howard Larkin, 11/30/2016

Update: At 24 months and 36,000 miles no repairs needed. The car gets about 28-30 mpg in mixed city/highway driving for my wife's daily commute and around town use. We have taken several long trips and have seen mileage as high as 38 mpg on the highway, though 32-35 is more typical at a constant 70 mph. The car is also very comfortable for four adults with luggage on long trips, and daily commutes -- hence "the pillow." Road holding in wet and icy conditions is outstanding. We are very pleased with the Subaru Legacy 2.5i. My wife traded in her 2005 Volvo S40 for this 2017 Subaru Legacy 2.5i mostly because the Volvo was getting too expensive to keep repairing -- Volvo parts are ridiculously expensive and the thing is so complicated they had to take the grill off to recharge the air conditioner. So the nice roomy layout under the Legacy's hood is a welcome switch, or so my mechanic tells me. You can actually see and reach the spark plugs without disassembling half the engine. This is actually our third Subaru, the previous two being a 1996 Outback and a 2012 Forester which we still have. The Legacy doesn't handle quite as well as the Volvo but they are such different cars it is not really fair to compare them. However, the Legacy does feel very planted on cloverleaf freeway entry ramps and it is easy to change and hold a line. I give credit to the symmetrical all-wheel-drive, which sounds like advertising but it really does eliminate torque steer. Physics, I guess. The Legacy is much better at absorbing the massive potholes and bumps all over the streets in Chicago and suburbs, which destroyed the Volvo's front end twice in 100,000 miles. The Subaru is at least a match for the Volvo in the rain and I am sure it will be much better in the snow as well. The Volvo was pretty good in snow for a front-wheel-drive car, but our other two Subarus were and are practically snowmobiles. This is a big reason why my wife chose the Subaru. based on previous experience with continuously variable transmissions, I was a little leery of this feature. However, the Legacy's CVT is very responsive and the car moves right out when you need it to. On my wife's 35 mile commute of about half highway and half streets the Legacy is getting about 29 mpg, which is about five or six better than the Volvo got on the same trip. We haven't taken any long road trips yet, but the dash says it hits 35 mpg on the freeway right after a fill up, and so far the dash mpg report has been pretty accurate, within about two percent of miles divided by gallons when we fill it up. The Legacy is much bigger inside than the Volvo, with a very comfortable back seat, though the Volvo had better seats. The lumbar cushion on the base Legacy are not adjustable, and tend to push me out a little farther than ideal on the bottom cushion, though this isn't a hug problem. Much, much better visibility out of the Legacy and the back up camera helps avoid backing into the garage wall. The Legacy is very solid and quiet, much more so than our 2012 Forester. Based on the excellent durability and reliability of our other two Subarus -- no repairs needed at all in 55,000 miles on the 2012 Forester, not even brake pads -- I am hoping this one won't need much work over the next 10 years or so.

Legacy 3.6R

I previously had a 2007 Ford 500 with a V-6. This Legacy 3.6R has more horsepower and very good acceleration. It is a little smaller than my previous car but not that much and it is still very comfortable. This is the first AWD car I've ever driven and it feels very competent. I did get it with most of the bells and whistles. The adaptive cruise control is very good. A couple of things I like very much is (1) When I backup, the sensors start to beep if a car OR pedestrian is nearby which is great if parked next to or between larger vehicles, and (2) While driving, if you're a bit distracted, and a car in front of you starts to slow down and you gain too quickly, the Starlink will start to beep and, if necessary, actually start to apply the brakes...this has already helped a time or two. The leather seats are very comfortable and both the front and back seats have warmers. I did have the rain strips installed on the side windows so I could leave the window open slightly when it rains to help ventilation. Oh, also, when I first purchased the car, it seemed the windows would fog up rather quickly in cold or cool weather. As I have the care washed and/or hand waxed rather frequently, the windows don't fog up nearly as much as before, so the key seems to be to have the car washed and the inside windows cleaned rather frequently to clear a lot of the carbon buildup it gets while it sat on the lot before being purchased.

I Bought My 2017 Legacy for Safety features

Peter Cole, 03/11/2017

2017 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited 4dr Sedan AWD (2.5L 4cyl CVT)

I was looking for a sedan that would be significantly safer than my older cars. It wasn't a matter just of airbags and protection in a crash. My old car had air bags, so how much safety would a few additional bags add? What I wondered was whether any of the ACTIVE safety features really work by keeping you out of accidents in the first place. I only compared cars that already have top government and insurance safety ratings. It soon became clear that a few cars really stood out: among the sedans, the Volvo S60 (great but far too expensive), the Mazda 6 (but only the top of the line model) AND, the eventual winner, the Subaru Legacy (a car I was not considering when I first started looking). In all cases, what you get depends which OPTIONAL safety features you buy. My list of desired features included a rear camera (available on almost all cars and soon to be required on all cars), warnings when you stray out of lane (very common but far from universal) and indication of when a car in in your blind spot. I also wanted more advanced features such as for the car to intervene if an accident is on the verge of happening, by automatic braking etc., both driving forward and in reverse. An additional feature that really intrigued me was adaptive headlights, headlights that aim to the left or right when you turn to your driving path is illuminated. I also liked lane assist and adaptive cruise control. The first gently keeps you in your lane on the highway, and the second keeps you the right distance behind the car in front of you. In addition to these core safety features, I was also interested in a car with reasonably modern electronics. I hoped for an easy integration of my car and my iPhone. Of course, seat comfort, economy and a generally pleasant driving car were important as well, but I hoped that most new cars would be OK in those respects. Style, color etc. were on the bottom of the list, but still in mind. My general evaluation is that the 2017 Legacy exceeds expectations with regard to safety. I love the rear view camera and the beeps when I stray out of lane. I hope the active crash protection works. I have seen demonstrations on You-Tube, but I would rather not need it in real life. When the salesman was demonstrating the car, he put it in cruise control while following another car. When that car stopped at a light, so did the Legacy! That was pretty impressive, but I have no desire to duplicate the experience routinely. I ultimately don't find lane assist useful. The lane warnings are, however. The safety feature I am most disappointed with is adaptive headlights. I don't think I see into curves any better than I would otherwise. The headlights are fine as such, but I see no advance over conventional headlights so far. So for safety, I would give the 2017 Legacy, equipped with all the safety features, an A Minus. I am happy. It really is much better than earlier cars, but more improvements are clearly possible. The improvements so far DO seem to justify buying a new car if your old one lacks most of these features. Electronics is another story. Here the 2017 Legacy has the feel of 2007, not 2017. Apple Car Play is not available. Yes, you can make an iPhone or Android use the sound system as a hands-free, but the built in GPS system feels old fashioned compared with Google Maps on my iPhone. Car Play was adopted in 2018 but there is no upgrade for the 2017 model. What I can praise is the upgraded stereo on the Limited trim level. The sound is great. It is possible to listen to Pandora and get a wide choice of music (if you don't mind using up your data plan on your phone, the source of the Internet connection). Overall, though, the electronics are really not up to date on this model. Regarding general comfort and ergonomics, I find the front seats comfortable but not in the same class as my 2002 Volvo S60's seats. The back is spacious and reasonably comfortable. The instruments are a bit overwhelming because current cars have so many features that in principle one might want to turn off. Since in fact, I don't want to turn off crash protection etc., I actually don't pay attention to a lot of switches, and I find the car easy to operate. There is excellent visibility and a small turning ration. The car is easy and pleasant to drive (like most Japanese cars). The bottom line is that I am very happy with the car. I am glad I bought all the extra safety features. Update: I am still happy two years later.

UPDATED - Still happy after all these miles...

First of all, this review is for a 2017 Legacy I purchased new in August 2016. I don't know why Edmunds is showing this as a used-when-purchased 2016 model! Original review: Purchased the car two weeks and 1200 miles ago - still breaking it in, so to speak, but here are a few observations: (1) Excellent fuel economy. Don't abuse it and you'll get excellent mileage. Using the paddle shifters go a long way towards accomplishing this as the CVT logic sometimes seems to search for the right gear. Don't let it guess - do it yourself. On a recent rural 35-mile trip, the MPG computer showed 37 mpg!! I've also compared actual mpg calculated as miles/gallons being only about 1 mpg lower than the computer. (2) Excellent road handling. This thing is a blast to drive out of a corner - give it some power coming out of a corner and you can feel the rear wheels push you out. Those used to rear wheel drive won't be impressed but if you're used to front wheel drive you'll immediately notice the difference. The lower center of gravity due to the flat four (boxer) engine design is also noticeable - car has minimal body roll compared to my old Accord. (3) Decent acceleration. It's no rocket but I have yet to be wanting for power, although off-the-line seems a bit hesitant (more a fault of the CVT than engine). Shifting from reverse to drive also seems to take a long fraction of a second - again, blame the CVT. I should note, however, that this CVT is the best I've driven (Altima, Accord, several hybrids...). It does a good job mimicking a traditional 6-speed auto, especially when you put the foot down. (4) Wind and road noise. Yikes, this is an improved noise level over previous gens? Really? Wind noise is noticeable over 35 mph. Road noise is also noticeable but that's probably due to the substandard Goodyear OEM tires. I'm hoping an upgrade will fix that and I hope that the dealer will find a problem with the weatherstripping around the windows. (5) Questionable seat comfort. It took me a while to get a good, comfortable driver's position. There are still times that the seat seems overly hard. I'm hoping that, like my previous Honda, the seats will eventually break in and feel better. So... if the car "breaks in" nicely and these little niggles are taken care of, this is an excellent car. UPDATE: The car is now 2 years old with 48000 miles on it. The seats have become more comfortable but still not quite as comfortable as my old Accord's. Absolutely no reliability issues with the car. I'm getting close to the time to replace the tires, which have worn well. Can't wait - these Goodyear LS-2s are noisy so they'll be replaced by more capable Michelins or Contis. The engine/transmission seems more responsive, at least after you get to 30 MPH or so. UPDATE #2: Our Legacy now has 88K miles in the midst of the 2020 pandemic. Car still has been trouble-free, although a slight rattle has become evident in the front passenger seat when no one's sitting in it. I did replace the tires with Yokohama AVID GTs which greatly improved the road noise - lo and behold, these are now the OEM tires on 2020 Legacys! Whatever other negatives I have about the car are as much due to my growing older than anything else. While this may well be my last sedan, overall I've been very happy with the vehicle. Fuelly.com shows an average of 30.3 MPG over its lifetime, with the best tank getting 34.3 MPG - pretty darned good for a car with standard AWD. The CVT seems to have smoothed out a bit but, honestly, I might have just grown used to it. UPDATE:130K miles and 7 years later, I'm still impressed. Frankly, this Subie has served us well with no major repairs. 141K miles - still no major problems! The left bolster of the driver seat has developed a small tear. Switched to Cooper tires on the recommendation of my local tire shop and I couldn't be happier - they're even better than the Yokohamas (cheaper, too!). Sadly, 2025 is the last year of the Legacy and, unfortunately, I can't really justify upgrading when my current Subie is so darned comfy and reliable.

Owned 2017 Legacy 3.6R for one week now

This is my families 5th Subaru, my last car was a VW diesel Jetta which I just sold back to VW after the big scandal. So far I am pretty happy with this model. The performance with the 3.6R is great but you do pay for the AWD and performance in MPGs but that is understandable. I looked at Hondas and Acuras but really preferred the interior on the Subaru its clean and elegant, it has a little bit of fake wood, but not as plasticky as the Acura. Handling is very good, nice tight suspension and very comfortable, the HID headlights are awesome. The additional safety features Eyesight, blindspot detection etc. are really nice features and well implemented. On the down side the voice control for GPS is a joke I won't go into detail here but the implementation is pathetic. Also there is no carplay option even though Subaru offers it on its own Impreza line. The small console compartment where the USB port is located, is too small to hold an IPhone 6 let alone a 6+, without leaving the compartment door open. The three criticisms above are really comfort and convenience issues I still love subaru's but they were soooo close to getting a perfect score. - Two Years later: As a vehicle the drive train, comfort, roominess is still excellent. The tech package infotainment system is pathetic.. I have Major complaints: 1. If you add radio presets, unbelievably you can't remove them!!! I have looked on line and talked to the dealer. The only work around is to change the displayed number of presets. 2. If you plug your phone (IOS) into the USB port it takes over the audio and starts playing tracks off the IOS device. There is no way to set the infotainment console to default to the radio. 3. Subaru starlink app is total garbage it actually crashed my whole infotainment system including GPS/MAP while I was driving almost caused an accident since I was relying on this for navigation. It appears that Subaru is making no effort to upgrade their infotainment system and their IOS app. 4. There is no ability to add carplay features. I would actually pay for a new head unit with carplay if they had an option.

We bought this car for its safety features. We paid a song for an AWD with Eyesight technology! It is amazing putting the cruise control on and simply letting the car handle acceleration and deceleration. Hopefully I won't have to ever test its automatic braking anytime soon. While the seats aren't as comfortable as I would like, the car is roomy. FOR THE PRICE I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY!

We leased a 2017 Legacy Limited with EyeSight and Nav package, and the car has everything anybody could ask for in the near luxury midsize sedan segment. The Limited trim comes with a long list of features, and option package #24 adds extra goodies like HID headlights, Eyesight, Nav etc and is a pretty good deal IMO. We bought this after test driving the Mazda 6 GT, Ford Fusion Titanium, Lincoln MKZ. The Legacy offers the best combination of safety, value, features and comfort. So far its being running great with a very comfortable ride and ready to take on another Midwest winter. The Harman Kardon audio system sounds excellent, much cleaner and punchy compared to similar Bose systems. The Legacy is surprisingly roomy and comfortable inside. The quiet interior and the low pitch drone from the CVT put some of my passengers to sleep on the highway! Only minor issue is that the front seats seem too wide, but I guess its on-par for a family sedan.

I was looking to buy a car for about 9 months. I was eyeing for a midsize sedan, an upgrade from the 2005 Civic I had for 13 years. I was searching online, reading reviews, driving through dealership lots on Sundays, asking people around...I wanted something reliable for years to come, with decent fuel economy, nice looking and also can outstand the icy cold weather of my state Minnesota. After 9 months, narrowed it down to two vehicles, and only 2. The 2017 Honda Accord or the 2017 Subaru Legacy. I settled with a Legacy Sport Trim, because of the standard Symmetrical AWD System, which is a huge plus in Minnesota's winter conditions. After two months of driving it around, I'm very confident to say the car is nicely built. It drives nice, handles the road amazingly, it's quiet, roomy and comfy. I was blown away about the fuel economy 25/34, given the vehicle size, weight and AWD system. I drove to work on a Sunday morning, the roads and freeway empty, slightly down hill commute. I clocked 39.4 MPG in a trip of 11 miles. I wasn't hyper-miling like crazy, I was easy on the gas pedal and maintained a steady speed of 60/62

I love my new Subaru Legacy and its many features: headlights are the best I have ever had; messages of "lane departure" and "vehicle ahead has moved" will surely make me a more alert driver. The blind spot warnings are very helpful. The few things I don't like: setting the headlights (they work great...difficult to figure out); the location and difficulty of seeing the time; the GPS has no streets, only turns; I miss a key that goes in the ignition.

All Function and Some...Sport

If you are interested in contributing to your retirement, minimizing cost of ownership, and experiencing a daily driver that is peppy on the curves/mixed weather conditions, this is the sedan for you! I purchased the Legacy "Sport" trim, but not because the package offers anything remotely sporty beyond aesthetics. This trim looks beautiful and the interior two-tone seats have been perfect, both breathable and no staining issues. The car could use an additional 100 horsepower and manual transmission, but is otherwise a joy to drive.

I owned this cat up until a few weeks ago when it was totaled. The safety equipment functioned flawlessly. I wasn't severely injured by a vehicle twice the size and weight striking me on the passenger side. It doesn't have as much hp or torque as some of the two wheel drive competition but it's no slouch. For a mid sedan it's pretty luxurious with all the comfort features and adaptive cruise for long drives. I would have no qualms with touring the country in this vehicle.

Best Sedan for the price.. Let me explain:

Background: I’ve had the 3.6R Legacy for 1 year, had a 2003 WRX before that. Ok, the car is underpowered and the CVT transmission is sub par compared a manual. But if you can look past the bad: This car handles like a German Sport sedan of your choosing(AWD of course). The dynamics of this car’s chassis and the center of gravity are insane. The steering feel is bad, but with an open mind and heart you can really drift some serious corners and maintain high speeds on the rally track or on some paved backroads. It has plenty of power, you need to understand how CVT works to summon the cars peak HP. But having a flat 6 (Boxer) gives the car such balance and Subaru PROVIDES a technology to address the understeer characteristics of AWD and really helps yaw the car perfectly(Active Torque Vectoring). RIP to the ebrake (joking) just use some hardware and software magic. Every time I drive this car, I smile and say: DOMO ARIGATOU Subaru.

Empirical improvements over other legacy years

We showed up at our local subaru dealership to look at a few low mile off-lease legacies that seemed fairly priced. '13's, '14's and '15's. It's worth noting that the sixth generation models benefited substantially from the small increase in power and what the dealer claimed were adjustments to the CVT powertrain. Stand on the accelerator of the 2013 and the vehicle sounds like the engine is racing, but there is very little corresponding acceleration. The chain is racing but the gears don't engage until the speeds match up. For the small increase in HP, it seems they got some of that worked out - the car doesn't get up and run away, but neither do you feel like your driving in a half-neutral gear with a slipping transmission. Another improvement is in the cabin soundproofing. The 2017 had much less road noise. And finally, it should be noted that the standard backup camera is really an asset vs. earlier offerings as the view out the back window - while better than many cars - is still restrictively high. We decided to go with a lease on the 2017 based on those considerations, and also dealers seem to be ordering far more PZEV's now than in the past, which I'd take any day over a hybrid with heavy metal batteries that will require a strict EPA compliance when reprocessing (shipped off for reprocessing in China or elsewhere where cutting corners on environmental compliance is not uncommon), and the PZEV cost us nothing extra to get in a 2017 lease - I figure it's because the residual with that feature gets a slight boost due to the higher exhaust warranty.

What you should know is it is a great all wheel drive car for the money. When you close a door on a Legacy you would think you were in a Mercedes. Very comfortable and roomy. Power is non-existent so if you are an aggressive driver it isn't the car for you. If power isn't a factor then its acceleration is ok to mediocre. Dash, air control and radio controls etc. are convoluted. But it does have a nice screen in the dash. Warranty is lousy but reliability ratings are high. Compared to our prior Sonata the warranty is poor. Looking at the big picture the car is a steal for the price.

If you are tall you will need to lower the seat in order to get into the driver side without banging your knees on the steering wheel. You feel a good deal fo the road with this car. It is not the cushy ride of higher end Asian models.

On average, I drive approx 35k miles per year. I had a 2015 Malibu and it caught on fire while in park and burned to the ground. I now drive the Subaru premium and it is wonderful. Better stability, handling and traction is great both in and out of the rain. The controls are easy to access and the safety features are really nice. Very few blind spots on this car. Hands down, a better built vehicle over Chevy Malibu.

My Subaru 2.5i all weather package Subaru Legacy sedan is in outstanding condition with only 22,873 miles on it. It is a 3 year 36,000 lease vehicle with latest inspection and emissions sticker on it. All brakes are excellent and tires still have 6/32 tread.life currently on them. Super clean and garage kept. No dings or dents and all oil changes and filters and tire rotations are up to date. Maintained only at dealer when required. No recalls and has never been in any type of accident. We will turn in this vehicle before lease end on 7-23-2019. Sorry to give it up but both of us are retired and now only require one vehicle. This car is a used car dream.

To test drive both engines to confirm if the 4 cylinder has enough 'passing power'. I traded in a 2007 Rav4 with the V6 (it had generous torque/horsepower), and from various reviews-I felt the 4 cyl wouldn't cut it for me. This engine with the cvt has enough hp, but I think the cvt affects torque output. I've only had this 3.6R 5 days and have put 100 miles (mostly city) on it, I need to take it on a trip to get a better feel for: the handling, drivers seat comfort/support, the sound system, and how well the hvac functions. My 1st Suburu was an 87 wagon, a nice solid car but SO much has changed since that car. Some coworkers whom I told about this car were knowlegable and impressed. Actually I have a friend who was extremely knowlegible about the Legacy and it's features but deceided to purchase a new Prius instead. I live in the Pacific Northwest and the awd and the safety features got my attention, the 3.6 sealed the deal for me.

I recently purchased the 2017 3.6r last summer. We opted for the 3.6 because I felt the 2.5 just didn't have enough pep not to mention I have always enjoyed a 6. We actually decided to purchase the legacy after we owned a brand new rogue that was a lemon a 2015 SL which was fully loaded that had NOTHING but problems. We live in New England so AWD is a must here. I did look at the Accord and Toyota. We usually don't look in this class of cars but we have two little ones and felt we needed something that can take a kick and keep on ticking. Normally, I would be looking at a 330ix or a Q60 or an Audi A4 or A6 but I have to admit. This car past my expectation. The CVT ( yes a CVT!) is actually not bad at all When I got in it had me fooled for an entire few minutes. Don't get me wrong I prefer a nice 6 speed over a CVT any day but the extra gas increase and reliability is great. The car handles great (get rid of the factory tires) I purchased some nice summer/performance tires and winter tires as needed. The ONLY issue I have come across is that the car makes a rattle under the hood ( the hood mounting pad) and the air defrosting isn't that great in cold weather (20dg) and the rear window top part does NOT defrost at all it's actually just the digital antenna. In the snow the car is a beast. Throw it in "manualmatic" and turn off the traction control and enjoy the paddle shifters and have fun because the car will kick all 4 tires easily! A great car and we look forward to many years with it. We went fully loaded and I have to say the eyesight is decent I have had other eye sights years ago 2006 M35 had it along with adaptive cruise control which is nice. I would have NEVER purchased an older legacy as the interior was horrible but the redesign is clean fresh and modern . We travel daily dirt roads, interstate (80 MPH) and bumpy New England back roads with frost heaves (look it up) and this car handles all of them without a single issue. The car handles the bumps without a single issue.

Looked at the Accord and Jetta and found the Subaru to be superior. AWD is much appreciated in New England. I have had reliability issues. The coolant system has drained completely on two separate occassions leaving me high and dry. I find this completely unacceptable for a car with 4000 miles on it. I am researching my options but my preference would be return this car at this point. I've got a Suburban with 200K miles on it which has had one coolant change in its lifetime. The legacy Sport is a 30K plus car and I can not rely on it for a drive beyond the grocery store. I am obviously not happy.

My salesperson gently steered me to take a look at this subtle sedan. He presented the safety features and comfort to which I was immediately drawn. I love the adaptive cruise on both open roads and in high-traffic commutes. There is plenty of acceleration for traffic, and a top end with no strain for the open road. The heavy-duty trunk mat is fantastic when I use my car to carry the occasional landscaping item or tools. Fold-down rear seats in the 2/3 - 1/3 configuration means I can carry my grandson safely while transporting his soccer goals.

This is my second Subaru. All others were Toyota or Nissan. Loved my Toyotas, hated the Nissans. Every Nissan (Sentra up to Maxima) had problems. It was hard to rid my 2007 Camry SE (60Kmi) but it was 10yrs old. Comparing 2017 Camry SE and Legacy Limited I was sold on the Subaru. Though, cheaper in price it was nicer. AWD is a bonus. My only concern with the Subaru was reliability. CVT, oil consumption, and Head Gaskets specifically. Hopefully, they have been resolved. I did have a rear-wheel bearing fail around 38K but it was covered under 50K mi warranty. Phew! Saved me $600+.  The car feels solid, it's comfortable and quiet. Performance is adequate. My only dislikes - the brakes always made a hard chattering/grinding noise if pressed too hard. CVT seems to be in too low a gear under 40mph and the car seems to be all over the road when it's windy.  Black paint picks up every little scratch.  Yes, I would buy another Subaru.

It’s a nice handling car that corners as if on rails. After a few years I have come to realize most of my concerns are customer support issues, but this model year has a few design shortcomings that supposedly are fixed in the next years car. Car mechanically is performing well, but is noisier than average inside(road noise) and out(clatter). It’s a decent driver at 38k miles. The seat fabric and foam are not aging well for a modern car. The car clatters when it starts, has wind and road noise issues, came with defective foam in rear arm rest, seat, and the cloth is hard to keep clean. Front seat outboard bolsters are not aging well. Replaced all four tires at 5000 miles since they were too worn to just buy one when the car lost a tire due to a stick- it broke a cord in the low budget Goodyears. Found out later from a more “real” dealer they can shave down the new tire, which would have saved money. The selling dealer was not especially useful, with me having to diagnose the car and then lead them by the nose to little issues that they don’t really want to fix anyway- things like defective weatherstripping (which just might cause road noise) I brought the seat wear issue to Subaru corporate- they offered no solutions. The dealer charges $120 for a basic service and air filters. My general repai shop charges half for the same service with genuine Subaru parts. The upshot? I’d probably consider it again, but I’d check out the dealer more carefully. It’s a nice driver, and an overall good value, but look a new one over VERY carefully before you buy, since the dealer and Subaru might just try to skate out of fixing any flaws or defects. They did on several things with mine and it still kinda bugs me when I think about it

3 years later: good car, low to the ground so I have to replace windshield every year cause rocks fly up and crack it. Terrible key. It’s giant and stupid and bulky and I hate having that thing in my pocket. Why can’t they make one that retracts or folds or anything other than a 7” sharp object in my pocket. Who has a psyical key now anyways? Subaru. That’s who. And my legacy is base so it doesn’t offer apple car play. So I’m sticking with my original review. Drives fine. It’s comfortable and reliable and safe and drives well in snow. But the interior system blows. Its really really awful. Upgrade the key and the radio and it’s on. *** 6 month later update*** I still cannot believe the terrible workings of the phone/radio interface. I still receive calls daily that it does not recognize, even though they are stored contacts. It's like they never tested it. ***Original Review: I like how the car drives but I'm disappointed in the technology. I got the base model legacy, it has no Nav, no sat radio, the seat needs to be adjusted manually, only the driver window is auto up/down, and the climate control is a joke. Its a knob to turn on the heat or AC. It will not display an interior temp or allow you to set one. Just heat on or off. The USB port is in a terrible location, up under the radio and the door to this compartment wont close right if a phone cable gets in the way... which it always will. The phone button will allow you to make calls but wont let you hear a ring... so the person just starts talking from silence. Interior cloth seats are also terrible as this should be some sort of polyester or something that might prevent staining. Subaru Starlink is a complete joke and is a useless app/phone integration. I thought Ford MyTouch was bad.... Overall the 2014' Ford Fusion had much better tech but drove like a boat. In fact my 2002 Infiniti G20 at least had interior climate control.

Driver head rest pushes my head forward- other people have not had a problem due to their body types- larger than me or smaller

I own a 2017 Legacy. Am very pleased except for one problem. If the car isn't driven for a week the battery goes completely dead. Wondering if anybody else has experienced this problem
