Used 1999 Subaru Legacy Wagon Consumer Reviews
My Dream Car
My family has owned Subarus since 1974. When the Outback was introduced I knew that was the car I wanted. Everyone I knew that owned one loved it. It is roomy, comfortable, and will get through any kind of weather! I have filled the back with plants, rocks, furniture, and dogs. The only problem I have with it is the cup holder in the front seat. It blocks the stereo and heater controls. But I know they changed that in 2000.
Lots of problems!
We have owned our Subaru for 3 years now and we are much more than upside down in the actual value of the car. Five months after buying it the tranny quit, thankfully it was under warranty. Next, about a year later it was the radiator, water pump, some random hoses, cam shaft seals and we did the timing belt to be safe. The most recent repair and the most expensive, the heads and head gaskets! This is our second and most likely last subaru. Major lemon!
Tough Car - Great Value
This is my 6th Subaru and my 3rd new one. This is an excellent car. Comfortable, reliable, great in all kinds of weather. I have over 52 K miles on this in 3 years with no problems. Dealership is always accomadating. The leather, heated seats are a nice upgrade. I see no reason to switch to any other car.
1999 Subaru Outback Still Going!
My wife bought her 1999 Subaru Outback in 2001, to replace her 1993 Toyota 4-Runner which she rolled. All maintenance done in a timely manner. 2 timing belts replaced. All CV joints. Multiple batteries, brakes and sets of tires! All 4 struts. You see this car has gone 275,318 kms or 171,100 miles (actually a little more, as the odometer/speedometer doesn’t always work anymore). It’s been a solid vehicle! It doesn’t burn any oil, but there is a bit of seepage from the front of the engine, which can drip onto the exhaust system. We think it may have about another 15,000 km on it, but we can only guess. We use an external GPS to make sure we don’t speed! We still have it because it was such an awesome car, but it has been replaced by a 2022 Subaru Outback Premier. Heh, it’s 26 years old and still runs great!

Subaru Legacy L Wagon 30th Anni. Edition
I bought this car for the automatic trans., and have found it to be a great mid-size wagon that's fun to drive with loads of practicality.
