Used 2023 Subaru Forester Consumer Reviews
Leaking moonroof-Subaru can't find the source
The moonroof in my 10 month old Forester leaks, sometimes significantly. Water drips out from near the eyeglass holder, and fills the area around the driver side sun visor and A column. Subaru is unable to replicate the leaks during water testing. It's been three weeks and I have yet to get a rep from Subaru of America on the phone. No solution as of yet...

This is my third Subaru Forester I’ve owned. Love the ‘fit’ of the driver seat and arrangement of all dashboard controls. Provides years of reliable transportation. Generally an overall well sized and good looking vehicle.

My first Subaru!
After some research I decided on the 2023 Forester Premium with most of the bells and whistles. My initial impressions after about 350 miles: 1. I would not characterize the SUV as “gutless” which is an exaggeration. What do you want a 455 hemi in it that gets 5 mpg? The car has enough power for most instances and even feels peppy in most city driving. In highway driving its again plenty of power for me at least. 2. The car is pretty quiet and comfortable for a tall SUV. It rides smoothly and handles good. Theres no objectionable wind noise in my view. 3. The steering could feel more connected to the road but not bad enough for me to not purchase it. 4. It has plenty of cargo room. I’m a drummer so it carries all my drums and gear with ease. 5. Its still breaking in so my gas mileage may i crease a bit but I’ve been averaging 26.5 in city driving. I have not driven it a considerable distance on the highway yet. 6. The controls and entertainment layout is what my old fashioned self likes. Knobs , dials and a small screen, nothing too large. I do wish it had a slightly bigger space to put my phone. I will have to figure a way to mount my phone. 7. I’m still learning about all the safety features. I did turn off LKA and auto start/stop. Auto start/stop defaults to on position when you shut off the car and restart it. Its not bad once on though, I just prefer to turn it off. 8. Finally want to thank Tameron Subaru for a great buying experience and a fair price.

Satisfied with My Subie
I bought my Forester three months ago, and I love it. Yes it’s underpowered, but it’s enough to get going. I’m not heavy on the gas (most of the time) so gas mileage is pretty good for an SUV. It’s my first CVT. I don’t love it on the parkway with many upgrades. It downshifts and revs at any incline. But it’s great in city driving. Huge windows and pano sunroof. Very comfortable ride. Another thing I’m not a fan of is the wind noise on any road above 50 mph. I LOVE the Hardon Karman stereo with subwoofer. I had it in the Kia Optima I traded for this, but it’s even better in the Forester. Oh, one last thing: oil changes are heavily advised every 6000 miles. If I knew this before buying the car I may not have bought it, since I commute 120 miles everyday. Otherwise, it’s a great SUV!!

Just okay
We ordered the car in April and took delivery in June 2023. The pros include a smooth ride, ease of entry / exit, old fashion knobs and buttons, and some of the safety features. The cons are front seat comfort, engine noise, and the annoying lurch when you are decelerating (always happens at 15 mph). The seats feel great for the first 2 hours of a road trip and after that it feels like someone has hit you across your shoulder blades with a 2 x 4. We took it on a 2,750 road trip and both of us experienced the same discomfort. I have only rode in the back seats for about 1 hour, so I can't say how they feel on a long trip. On two occasions the "eye-sight" detected something and abruptly applied the brakes. Thankfully there wasn't another car close by. The beeps while using the adaptive cruise control can be annoying. Anyone considering purchasing a Forester should try to rent or borrow one for at least a four hour test drive. UPDATE 5/6/24 We have adjusted the seats several times and now they are not as uncomfortable as before. We have taken a few 500 mile trips with no shoulder pain. The quality of the car is great. No issues or recalls. It has almost 11,000 miles on it.
