If you have never owned a Forester, I recommend to test drive one, and not just around the block. Some folks like the car a-lot, and some do not! The Forester is in my opinion a very well thought out vehicle. This is our daily driver. The only serious ding is the center console screen for the radio. It is too hard to see when it is sunny out. Gas mileage is as advertised. We actually have seen 36.3mpg on a long trip. Average city is 25.5mpg. Maintenance is average cost as most cars are these days.

Too much oil consumption

Took my 2014 Subaru outback into the dealer 3 mos. ago as the check oil light was on (24,000 miles on engine). Was told to come back in 1000-1500 miles. The engine was down a quart and they said this was "normal" and within the Subaru guidelines....well I know this is BS....This is the 4th Subaru I have bought from Lithia Subaru and it will be the last. Look up prior lawsuits against Subaru and you will find the same problem existed in previous years.

If you haven't had a Subaru it is a little different as far as getting to know the Bluetooth, Navigation and the rest of the gauges. The heated seats work well, no blind spots and easy to get in and out of. I like the car. It is fantastic in the snow. The Forester ground clearance is very good and the X-mode adjusts the throttle and 4 wheel drive for the ultimate in traction. Good MPG. We get upto 30mpg on highway trips and I think the performance is plenty good. The passenger room is much better than our Fusion we had and is much more quiet on the freeway. The oil changes are very easy and parts are no problem. Some complain about the oil consumption but we have not had an issue with that. I am 69 yrs old and this vehicle as far as family type cars that I have had over the years is without question my favorite to drive.

I have lived in New England year around for 40 years, and this is the best winter driving car I have ever owned. Best on snowy roads, best on icy roads, best in heavy rain. I drive 20,000 miles per year.

So. Much. Oil.

I knew I was in trouble when, 6 weeks after purchasing this car, the low oil indicator came on. I've had to throw a quart in every 6 weeks or so ever since ... until 2 months ago when it dropped to every 4 weeks. I'm now done. There is no reason I should have to continue throwing oil into a car like this. I've Googled, I see that people are given the run around, I see I can haul myself to the dealer over and over for consumption tests (no thanks), and I know there was a class action lawsuit about it that they lost. I just want this car out of my life (I'm going tomorrow to get something else). In addition to the oil issue, the seats aren't comfortable at all. The seat itself is too short for my legs (I'm 5'8"). Yes, I did test drive it, but it was fine for that 10 minutes. I only noticed it after spending more time in it. The armrest is too short. The controls make NO sense. I can't hook up an iPod without being forced to control it through the car's controls, which is an exercise in futility. If you have a rear-facing car seat, the person sitting in front of it is jammed into the dash (my husband rides in back with our son more often than not because it's more comfortable). And, finally, the ride itself is rough. The car is at a low price point, and it never lets you forget why. Are there any plusses? Yes. Aesthetically, I like how it looks. The cargo area is roomy. It comes in manual transmission, which is a dying breed. Gas mileage is good. But overall, I hate this car with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns.
